I always prepare a booklet of info for my sherpa (aka Kevin).  I include course maps, race info, etc.  I also fill in the calculator thingie and print it out so he has a clue of when to expect me in transition areas at the finish.  Sometimes I do a best case and worst case version.

So you won't be texting us updates like my DS2 did during his HIM? Laughing

Uh, no.

Ok, poddies, need some help.  I want to get to running Barry Galloway style: 3-2-1 and Gallowalking.  So, I am building back up, increasing my running intervals by :30 each run, while going up a minute or so total running each time (so adjusting the number of intervals).  At what point do I go to running every day?  Once I am at a certain run/walk interval?  And should I take the total amount of time I ran in the week previous, and split it up over the six runs?  For the record, tomorrow I will be running 3.5min, walking 2 min (x5) and if all goes well, will be up to run 5 min, walk 1 min in about 10 days.

Oh, and Janyne, I guess you can take me off the DL please....

Hooray for getting off the DL.

I'm not sure at what point you could add another run in to the week (or even if there is a particular time that is better than where you are right now), but you are right about how to do the mileage . If you are running/walking 15 miles a week over 5 days and want to add a day, you would still run 15 miles for the first week or two spread out over 6 days, so some of your runs would be shorter than they had been.

Good luck to the racers! How cool is it that we have people doing running, swimming, and cycling separately and then Janyne is hitting all three together. It's a very coordinated weekend.

And, yeah, well, about that streaking . . . I didn't run yesterday, so that streak ended, but I am beginning another one today. lol

What's the purpose of the run/walk? Just doing it while you regain fitness?

Well, just building back up slowly to ensure I don't re-aggravate.  When I first started running, I did 10:1 run/walk; that's how I completed my marathon.  I am pretty sure I am going to stick with it, even once I am 'back at it'.

Well, I dOnt know much abOut galloways philosophy so I can't really speak to that. Personally I feel there is nothing wrong with increasing frequency (but keeping mileage in check) in fact, I recommend it while building endurance.

I always do it so that my lungs can catch up on the walk breaks.  Ends up being faster for me in the long run.

I don't know if any of you read Fat Cyclist on a regular basis but if you don't, you're missing some funny stuff.

At any rate, I really enjoyed his latest blathering so here you go:  http://www.fatcyclist.com/2013/03/20/fatty-vs-the-hammer-a-thought-experiment/

Last night I read his reports of the desert race. Very entertaining.

Usually isn't for me.  I sherpa-ed for Dan (Marvarnett here) when he raced Duathlon qualifier and Duathlon worlds.  I put him up at my house, made him race the qualifier even though it was snowing, and gave him a bunch of mine and my husband's clothes so he'd be warm racing.  Also, he drank my tea waiting for the race to start so he'd stay warm.  Very fun.

It was soooooo good. I just love John Legend. He's so adorable, too. My coworker was flipping her lid because he is her VERY favorite AND it was her birthday. Then they had another surprise guest, The Head and the Heart (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjoA4nYBD5U) at the end of the day. Very good stuff.
