Sensei ![]() | ![]() I know that I shouldn't let htis get to me, but I'm a little frustrated..... I checked some of the other AG results. I found out that I would have been SECOND in the 35-39 AG. But just missed 3rd in the 40-44 (got passed in the last mile, dang it). Just so happens the 40-44 was a faster group. That kind of sucks becuase I AM 39. I don't turn 40 until November.... This may have been the closest I ever get to an AG podium spot at a race with a decent turnout....

I guess I'll just keep practicing and hope for the best if it happens in a race. At least I know HOW to do it. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() LaurenSU02 - 2008-06-17 10:03 AM Most people find it's easier to but one side of the tire in first and then other. I have found that with some tires and rims, it's easy to just go around the tire putting both sides in at the same time. Find what works for you. I usually start at the valve and work outwards in both directions. I also find it's easier if I put the tire back on while sitting down. I sit with my legs out in front of me and knees bent a little. Just rest the wheel horizontally on your knees and toes. Thanks for the tips Lauren! I'll try putting in both sides in tonight and see if that makes it a little easier. I'm also wondering if maybe I tried to put too much air in the tube to begin with. This has been my least enjoyable part of training so far....grrr. So frustrating! Edited to add: Thanks for the anger tip Matt. I was plenty angry 15 minutes into the tire changing experience.. haha. I'm not sure if that helped me out or not.

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() vball03umd - 2008-06-17 9:35 AM So I attempted to change a bike tire for the first time last night. It's hard!! Once I got the hang of it, I was able to get the tire off OK, but I had a really hard time getting the thing back on. Do you guys have any tips that you use to get it back on? Have you watched the BT tire changing video? The guy in the video uses the tire levers to get that last bit of tire back in the rim. Maybe this will help? He also shows to carefully run your finger on the inside of the tire to check for anything stuck in there that may have caused the flat in the first place. Easy to get a second flat if something is still stuck in the tire. |

Sensei ![]() | ![]() Yep, getting it back on seems to be the most time consuming..... I get one side in first, then do the second side. The problem is, when I start pushing the bead into the rim on one side, it starts falling out of the other side! So I just chase the tire around the rim for 5 minutes! (if that makes sense). I like to lay the wheel flat on my lap and tuck the bead in the rim right at the valve. Then using both hands, start pushing the bead in symetrically from the valve towards me. I guess it just takes some finger strength to get that last couple inches in. |

Man, that does stink. I'll bet you get there, though! You are getting really good! |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jim. Because of you, I had to look at the age group times of Deschutes Dash Sprint Tri from last year. I came in 14th in my age group last year. Number 1 came in 15 minutes ahead of me and number 2 came in 11 minutes ahead of me. It seems strange to get to a point where a few minutes matters quite a bit. I need to work the numbers to see how much better I can do this year. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() hi everyone!!! i've been absent quite a while - i have been at home in california for a week. but now i'm back! and i only ran ONCE while i was at home, so bad. and i was slower on that route than in november, when i wasn't even in shape. whaaaa? i've been slacking way too much lately, all my gains lost so quickly, but i also think that means i can get it back quickly yes? so, question, esp. for lauren. i've been biking and swimming a semi-reasonable amount, but my running has dropped off lately, not from injury like you, but from i'm not sure what, laziness i guess. so if i want to get back up to speed, but only have time to really run two times a week, should i start off with easy runs or get back into the 2x per week with high intensity? that's what i had originally planned to do, 1 day Tempo and 1 day intervals, since I know Jorge says a lot that with limited time, high intensity is the way to go since you're not trying to run 6 days a week. but i don't know if that's how i should start up, just at slower paces at first, from a few weeks of hardly any running. what do you plan to do when your injury is totally cleared? thank you!
i will catch up on all the race reports from this past weekend today! |

Sensei ![]() | ![]() Welcome back Lisa! My take on getting back into it..... I would probably go lower intensity for about a week and see how the body feels. After I got back from my week long vacation (with limited training but LOTS of walking) it took me at least 4 days to feel back to sorts, and then another 3 day to be comfortable with really going out hard. I think your body will tell you when it feels good to go fast (if you listen!). Be careful! |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Welcome back Lisa! Looking at your logs, you should definitely be doing all EZ running at this point. And, if you can increase the frequency a bit, that would be great. But if not, just keep it nice and easy for a while. Well, even if you can increase the frequency, still just keep it nice and easy for a while. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Today, I'm going to take my tri bike to a hill and try to climb it. This is no ordinary hill. It is steep, Steep, STEEP! My tri bike is definitely not geared for a hill like this, sooooo wish me luck! (I'll be lucky to get a half mile up it!) Cheers! ![]() |

Cheers! ![]() The true sign of insanity is not so much a statement like this one, it's the fact that we all say something like that throughout the week and none of us thing there's something wrong with it. People I work with keep coming by every day and saying "so, what'd you do this morning?" and I say "ran to work" or "swam 2 miles and then did a leg lift" and then they follow it up usually with "yeah, I need to get to working-out again...lack of time...too busy...etc etc." Ya know? I really felt sluggish this morning during my swim and actually felt like I may have to stop and puke in the scum-gutter. I didn't. But I think I may have to take an easier day tomorrow. I did just ramp-up my miles running. Does that make you feel blah when you do that anyone? |

![]() | ![]() Forgot the reason I was posting in the first place:
Owl_girl- Stay smooth, hammer-down on those pedals, you will climb that hill. Think of Dory from Finding Nemo "Just keep swimming, just keep swimming." But for you it's "just keep peddaling..." |

Sensei ![]() | ![]() Someone just reminded me that I was 6th overall out of 35 for the out-of-state racers. They broke it down to in- and out-of-state. I was also FIRST in my out-of-state AG!!!! But I was the only one!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() thanks guys, i'll keep it to easy 2-4 milers for now until i feel like myself again. i'll start with one this evening! so while i was at home, i went to the road runner sports flagship store to check it out, partly because i wanted to see a pair of nike frees (i'm intrigued by the "barefoot" running concept), and the store was really cool. but the spot for the nike frees on the wall was empty, and the store was so bustling that i didn't ask anyone (i was only in and out anyway, on my way to the airport). they had 3 treadmills for gait analysis and i saw a number of people get analyzed. it was pretty cool, next time i go back maybe i'll give it a shot. |

Often its not the night before but 2 nights before that matters the most. Did you eat differently? Even something like too much salt (like Chinese food) the night before can result in a bad workout for me. You could also check for overtraining by getting your heart rate first thing in the morning and see if its higher than normal, a sign of overtraining I think. |
