New user 84 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread irondreams - 2009-10-15 4:05 PM a. Am I the only one who does NOT have race wheels? No, I do not have race wheels....the same wheels that I brought with the bike is what I will be riding... I have been tempted to "rent" disc wheels...a triathlete I met in the airport after last years race said they make a big difference...But I am not trying to win a Kona spot or anything..just want to finish an Ironman..... New user 84 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread kvesey - 2009-10-15 9:54 AM As for those water temps: the Gulf is pretty shallow, so once air temps start going down, particularly at night, it will cool down pretty quickly. I'm willing to bet you will still have a perfectly legal wetsuit swim. Thanks for the info. I did not know what was happening on the other side of the big changing tent. How do the bike handlers get your race number to go and get your bike? To me, it was sheer chaos handing the T1 bags to the athletes...people and athletes yelling out their number, us volunteers trying to look at the shoulders to see their number to grab their T1 bag and hand it to them...especially at the 1:00 mark on the swim with everyone coming out at once...my solution is to put a timing mat down on the run up to the changing area and a big screen board/TV and post 15 to 20 bib numbers and scroll from the bottom up....this would help the T1 bag volunteers..we would just look up at the board, see the number that was in our area, grab the bag, and hand it to the athlete...use technology to do the job..versus all that yelling.....they could do the same thing for T2 so as you get off your bike, your T2 bag is ready for you....but, then again, I'm an engineer and always looking for a better way to do things.. Have a good training weekend everyone. It is snowing here in Central PA today. Unreal. 34F here. 81F in Panama City. Trainer ride in the basement tonight. I'm doing the run part of a kayak, bike, run triathlon on Sat. It will be a very cold run. Mr Steve |

I'm fighting a cold right now...the guy in the office next to me has been coughing his head off for the past two weeks...we kept expecting him to cough up a lung or something...he should have been at home, instead of getting the rest of us sick....I have been sticking to my workout schedule.......thought I was going to come down with the flu...better to be sick now than the week of Nov 1st......should be recovered by next week...I keep washing my hands all the time too...but didn't prevent me from getting a cold......good luck on not getting sick... Extreme Veteran 572 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread II am being a bad ironman today. I was supposed to do a long swim and short run but when I woke up and saw it was 50 degrees with a strong wind I decided to do a long run instead. I love running, I am ok with biking once I get out there, but I have a very difficult time motivating myself for the swim. It is ironic because I actually love recreational swimming but can't get myself motivated for the workouts.I have had the same thing happen for the bike a few times as well were I opt to go for a long run instead. I really enjoy the run and it is so much less of a time commitment then the bike. If I want to get a good bike workout I have to drive 45 minutes, bike for 6 hours, and drive 45 minutes back. If I want a good run workout I go down the street to the local park throw on some shoes and go run for 2 or 3 hours.Do you guys find that you have one of the disciplines that you strongly favor over the others? Do you sometimes go "off plan" to do more of your favorite? I definitely feel I get the best workout from running. Hopefully the fitness I gain from running will allow me to not suffer too much from missed workouts in the other legs of the race. It has been such a long year and a brutal last six months. I am working hard but definitely not as focused as I was 2 or 3 months ago. I am so ready to get this first one under my belt so that I get over the psychological hurdle as well as having some reference point for future training.Happy Friday and welcome to the taper! (for some) 3 weeks left!!!!! Edited by jjcnbg 2009-10-16 8:01 AM |
