Subject: RE: TAN #64 - A Case of Temporary InTANity

pitt83 - 2009-01-16 8:55 AM  Symptoms: Pain at top dead center in the back of the knee. Less pain / soreness in the lateral and medial ligaments (outside and inside ridges on the back of the knee). Slight pain under the patella in the front. We'll see the size / extent of the injury. I should walk out of the exam w/ a CD of images. I'll play amateur radiologist and see if I can find the problem and post later.

Well, good luck with that - hopefully it's nothing too severe. Do you have a lot of races planned for this season, already?

Mine only hurts on the inside edge of my left knee, right in the knee itself, it seems (like in the soft part of the joint, if you were to poke it from the outside). And sometimes it hurts a bit further down, below the actual knee joint, but still off to the side (so not patellar tendonitis), which is why I think the doc said tendonitis, as there are ligaments/tendons that attach at that point. They jerked my leg all around and nothing seemed to hurt, so who knows.

I don't drink hardly at all. MAYBE 1-2 screwdrivers a week at the jam session. That's it.

I think Diet Coke is killing me... when I don't drink it, I stop swelling up... doesn't that stuff have a lot of sodium in it? I have a 3-4 cans a day habit at work.

Do NOT get me started about the evils of aspartame.

A friend of mine was going to a doctor and geting some sort of appetite suppressant injection every week or so.  He also cut out carbs completely.

He's lost almost 50 lbs in 10 weeks, but I'm pretty sure his liver and kidneys hate him.

He doesn't have the most common sense...

Well, I am not sure if I will be or not - depends on if my church-tri-buddies do it again this year. I know some of them are looking to expand their triathlon horizons, so a little race like that might not be appealing. Plus, I thought that you aren't doing it since it's right after Black Bear, so even if I am there, you won't be?

Oddly, my church's women's retreat is at the Rocky Gap Lodge this year, in two weeks. If it wasn't January, I'd bring my bike and get some practice on the course. I will probably run it, though, while I'm there.

I'm thinking about going... whether I race or not is yet to be decided... my tri club always has a good showing.  So I might go even if I don't race.

Kewl. I have to see what the interest is among my friends and that will be the determinant. But since it's so hilly, it'd be a good thing to prep for over the next few months, and that would help me step up my game to prep for Luray in August.

Spokes - 2009-01-16 8:46 AM Fastest way to lose 20 pounds other than starvation?

i can lose 20 pounds without losing muscle mass in about 3 months, is that fast enough for you?

Your special "MEH" chicken and green beans diet?

Atkins will strip it off - I've done that before. But it gets BORING... its a hard way to eat permanently.

if you don't always want to eat healthy, the weight won't stay off permanently.  start today by cutting all processed foods out of your diet.  you are going to lose 10 pounds of water just because of salt/preservatives in maybe 2 weeks.

do you drink?  start by cutting the amount in half.  there's another sustainable 10 pounds in 2 weeks.

NOW.  keep those changes permanent.  continue to adjust in steps you can live with.  done.

I don't drink hardly at all. MAYBE 1-2 screwdrivers a week at the jam session. That's it.

sure diet soda has a lot of sodium, but zero calories.  i DOUBT its diet coke that has your weight up 20 pounds.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it.  I stopped drinking diet soda and have dropped a few pounds without making many adjustments to the rest of my diet.  I drink a lot more water, too, which is helpful.

My dietician told me any more than one can of pop (soda Coke whatever) a day isn't healthy. She said I could have one tops each day, and that's if I'm really craving it. So I just gave up pop altogether.

Good moring!  I brought in my book of culinary gold...  20 years to build and recipes that cover generations...

"Mom's Swedish Meatballs"

  • Frozen Meatballs (Large bag - Like from Sam's Club)
  • 2 cans Cream of Mushroom Soup (I get the low-fat)
  • 1 cup sour cream (again - low fat)
  • 1 tsp worshtishire
  • 1/4 cup mild (skim)
  • 1 pkg Onion Soup (dried like Lypton)
  • Dash of Tobasco

Throw everything in a crock pot and cook for several hours until hot.  I think I put it at 250 degrees or so.  Stir a couple of times and serve with a crusty bread.

Couple notes.  The recipe orginally did not call for all the low fat stuff.  That was my change, and it doesn't seem to have hurt anything.  However, this is not a 'health food' my any means.  The meatballs themselves are terrible for you.  I thought about finding turkey meatballs (if they exist) and try them.
