It snowed quite a bit up in our mtns yesterday, so I will get in a long xcountry ski today.  I decided to swap out swimming for skiing for the winter season so I can justify getting out there 1 - 2x / week.

Ree - congrats on three miles, what an accomplishment! sorry about the butt, it will get better!

I envy you the XC skiing! I really miss it, GREAT Workout and so much fun!

Yes Ree - sorry about your butt, but...NICE JOB ON THE MILES!

x 4 on not running in dangerous cold!

Garmin - well, I got one for Christmas and I have a cadence thingy with it and a bike mount etc. I'm getting fitted for and ordering my new Trek on Monday so I'm waiting to put the cadence thing on that. I have a spin bike too. On the spin bike, all my triathlon reading says that because you don't "coast" on the spin bike, you only need to do 75% of an outdoor workout if you do it on the spin bike. The spin bike is a tougher workout. They also say that as soon as you can get outdoors, you need to practice outdoors because of the speed, cornering etc. of the bike portion because it's dangerous to not be ROAD READY for your race.

Still fighting some of the chest congestion from my illness. I use the neti-pot too... it's a life saver. If i could just keep my hands off my face I'd be better off. I don't touch door knobs etc. which is where most of the germs are, so that helps. This is my first illness in years and years. Take care out there people! The germs are everywhere!

WAY TO GO ON THE WEIGHT LOSS TEACH!!

Happy Friday McFuzzies!  Are any of us racing this weekend?

The cold season is definitely among our school as well.   8th graders have about as much sense as 1st graders when it comes to personal space so I have been coughed and sneezed on as well!  I have been hitting the Airborne and vitamin C pretty hard...anytime I feel an inkling of a scratchy throat, headache, I do an Airborne intervention. That has worked really well for me (knock on wood!)

Have a fabulous weekend everyone!

infu5229 - 2011-01-20 11:00 AM I do not want to change the subject, but I would like to share some awesome news with everyone!

Today is a scheduled off day.  I feel a little head cold coming on, and today is as good as any to hang out at home.

The scale this morning said 259.4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have not been this light in about 6 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you everyone for the motivation.  As I have said before, I feel I am letting you down if I do not do something today to make me a better triathlete tomorrow.

Everyone keep up the fantastic work!

Woo hoo!!  Congratulations!

I hope you are saying -3ºC and not ºF.
I cannot even imagine get out of the house on that cold.

my outside runs ended when the temp dropped to lower 40's but in my defense, I train on a low budget and no much of winter gear.

for next year I'm considering a bike roller instead of gym membership.

Hey all.  Well we ended up with about 10" of snow by the time it stopped yesterday.  Most snow we've had at one time since 1982.  And they're talking about another 2-4" this weekendFrown.  I spent about an hour yesterday shoveling our driveway.  It was a light, fluffy type of snow but 10" of it can get pretty heavy.  My back and arms are pretty sore today.  It's supposed to be a rest day for me today and I'll probably take it.  I think I've managed to avoid the colds/sickness so far that are going around but my body could use the rest - don't want to give the germs an opening.

I hope those that are sick feel better soon and everyone has a great weekend!

What's Airborne intervention.  I thought that was what the Americans did to the Germans on D Day.

I can't wait to get a house so I can do my own thang to it lol. The remodeling the house itself will be a plus but I'm mostly looking forward to my veggie garden. I'm gonna make a damn good wife for my lady!

Do you know what Airborne is? When I feel any inkling of a cold I dissolve an Airborne tablet in a cup of water before I do anything else.  It has helped me all winter.

I apologize for not being around much lately, its been a hectic week. Hope everyone had a good week, gets healthy and enjoys their weekend.

Luckily here in NY we were hit with snow/ice on Tuesday and everyone was sent home early from work. Another 4ish inches of snow dropped on us from midnight-6am last night with a Noreaster expected this coming Tuesday! Any skiers should head up now for some good snow!!

Cold-EEZE works awesome if you take it right at the beginning of a cold.

General question for the group,

How much time should I have between races.  Specifically, I want to do a sprint triathlon a week before Vineman's Half aquabike.  Is this plan overly ambitious?

I did my first tri last year and would like to compete in more than one this year.  Ideally, I was looking at two sprints and one classic and the aquabike.

Thanks

If Vineman is your "A" race and you're willing to treat the sprint as a fun training day, it can be done.  The danger is redlining the sprint and not being rested for the aquabike.

I agree with Mike.  I did many sprints and run-only races last year, but I usually didn't do them a week apart unless one of them was done at less than race pace.

to make the simbol press "alt" and while holding press 167 or 168, now I'm using wife's laptop and it does not work. I think it only works on keyboards that have the number key pad on the side

UAU -3 I just cannot believe, it makes me feel so lazy not wanting to get outy of the bed to go to he gym when it's below 32 outside

If it makes you feel better last year I whined about going out in below 32º F also.  Running has actually increased my circulation enough to where I don't feel the cold like I used to.  Cold weather running isn't for everyone and if you don't grow up here it is hard to get used to.  I did wait to do my run until after work when it was 7º F out.  Decided I'm only merely crazy not insane.

Spent the day (7hrs) in sitting in a classroom learning about the new assessment piece of the curriculum we are using.  Get to do the same tomorrow.  Plus a 1 hr drive each way.  I'm not used to sitting all day.  I'm a teacher of young children.  We don't sit down for very long, or stay still for that matter. This was torture for me, even though, believe it or not, I was interested in the topic.  I can really relate to my ADHD students when I am forced to remain seated and focused for long periods of time.  UG!  Had my lap top and was  really temped to check in with you all, but I was with a new teacher I am mentoring and thought that would not be the best example of professional behavior. Smile

On cold weather running....Before last year I too would not even attempt to run if the temps were in the 30's.  Such a wimp, was I.
Last year I had to train through the winter since I had an April marathon (Boston) and I was not going to do long runs on the treadmill. So had to HTFU and get outside no matter what the weather, and in the process discovered I actually like winter running.  Who would have believed?  not me.   Although the coldest I've run in to date is 16 degrees.  This sunday's run may beat that in that the projected high temp is 20 and we will be running in the am so we can get our 13 miles in and have plenty of time before the Bears game.

Airbourne Assaults:  I'm a firm believer in Airbourne and zinc (Cold-Eezz)  I've been taking it and so far have not gotten a full out cold.  Still just a very slight sore throat.  Actually felt pretty good today, so hoping I've dodged another one.
