Which section of the course would you ride and why? Which section gives you the most accurate representation of the whole 112?
Park at Walmart on Hwy 105 and ride the north loop (62 miles). |

The worst part last year was jackson road. It is a little more narrow with little shoulder. I saw a few pissed people trying to hurry past people and could have been ugly on that part. Maybe with this being the second year people will know what is being talked about in the news paper/news paper. |

So I am glad that they took that stretch off for this year.Socks - 2012-05-01 8:59 AM RE the road that Karen said was scary due to fast cars: Not sure what they will do on race day at this race but much of IMFL is on basically a highway and thye block the left lane off for us. the only thing they do is block intersections. It is a two-lane highway. If they block off a lane, there isn't a lane for cars. So we all have to fit on the shoulder. Luckily it is towards the end of the route. I will be a BOPer on the bike, so I probably won't have too many faster cyclists trying to pass me at that point. |

Expert 1274 Houston, TX | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread Don't know abt everyone else but I'm really getting excited. I have no reason to be this excited since I am COMPLETELY undertrained but I sure am stoked! I don't really have a taper since most of my training has been at taper volume anyway! Getting in a 100 miler this week with the race wheels set up for first time. I have no goal other than to finish and I think that by taking it show and steady I should be able to do just that. We will see what race day brings! |

Extreme Veteran 463 Houston/Richmond area | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread I, also feel undertrained. Especially on the bike. With only a couple of 80 mile rides and 2 weeks to go, I am hoping to get a 100 miler in this week. I am pretty confident in the swim and on the run. I just don't know about that bike. Since this is my first IM, people say I should just go and have fun. But, I have a hard time not having a time goal. I'm going to put it out there and maybe y'all can set me straight. Swim 1:20.xx (2.00/100) 8:20 Bike 6:15.xx (18mph) 3:00ish Run 4- 4 1/2 hours (9-10min/mile) Finish between 7 and 7:30 |

Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread Great news for me A crazy warm up is going to hit Michigan tomorrow. We had snow flurries Saturday afternoon but tomorrow will hit 80 with crazy amounts of rain and severe weather but Thursday could hit 85. Taking the day off to ride long and do a one day heat acclimation. Possibility of rain but have to take that chance and let the heat beat me down one good time before the race. |

I am underskilled. Baring a disaster I should finish. I would love to be under 12:00 your goal times sound like mine except nothing in my bike training says I should be around 6:15. My secret dream goal is to be 11 hrs 46min and 58 secs or better. What better goal then to beat the time of the First ironman finish time for my first Ironman. Its a pipe dream but gotta have them. Who knows divine intervention can happen. |

Champion 7704 Williamston, Michigan | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread Goal is to survive relatively unscathed. Seriously I am undertrained and have no athletic ability. Been doing the IM cram thing the last 3 weeks. ONLY thing in my favor is that this is my 6th IM. I'll probably do the swim in 1:20 ish the bike I'd be shocked if I get off in under 7 hours and the run is survival. I usually can swim and bike fast enough I have time to walk the whole marathon. What can I say life got in the way. Its a training day for IMFL. |

You folks must be in taper crazy mode already Gives me something to think about on my run tonight. I've been thinking about my times before I signed up! Ha! Seriously though, this IM was for time. Only for time. But I had to let go of the time goal I had. I had hoped my run training would have come along nicely. Instead I was down two weeks in December being ill, then I hurt my left foot in January (not sure what happened, but it still hurts and I can't speed walk!), and then I hurt my right foot in February (hurts less than the left foot, but it was a really weird and random thing that happened in a half marathon- I go to take a step running and pain is shooting through my foot/ankle). So my marathon is going to be a suffer fest like it was at IM #1. Here are my goal times: Swim - 1:15 T1 - 10 mins Bike - 7 hours, 15 mins (That's what I did when I rode the course, but it is not including paused time of 15 mins) T2 - 10 mins Run - 6 hours (Crossing fingers and toes!) Roughly a 14:45 finish. IF I do that, I will be happy. It will be better than my 15:45 finish in my first IM. |
