marcinny - 2012-03-09 5:30 PM I am planning to ride on CarboPro plus bars w/water. I just dont know how to avoid carrying 4 bottles full of mixture. I cannot see myself mixing powder and powerbar dring during race. Any sugestions?

Perhaps try powerbars are some other easy digestable nutrition source that you can wash down with water or perform...?

Monty - 2012-03-09 12:54 PM Everyone has their own opinion on water bottles and you will do what you feel is best for you. For me that meant just riding with an aero bottle up front. I can drink pretty much anything and the gatorade on the course suits me fine. I keep a bottle of drink in transition so I can gulp down some right after the swim. I now have an aero bottle full until the first aid station in 10 miles. I find it gives me 2 benefits. First is your bike is not loaded down with liquids for the 2 steep climbs out of town. 2nd it was easier to keep track of how much I was drinking. I could look at my aero bottle and see how full it was every 10 miles. Grab a bottle dump and go. Found this to be a good strategy for me. Everyone is different though and handles the on course stuff differently. Trial during training rides is good. If you can drink what they have on course it is of benefit to not load down with bottles. I know it is good to err on the high side, but have you ever needed 3 full bottles in the first 10 or even 20 miles of a training ride? Oh yeah...I paid for that stuff on course and I will get my $600 worth! Hope your training is going well.

I think you hit the nail on the head Monty.  If you drink Infinit or your own sport-specific drink other than Perform; you're likely gonna have to carry more bottles and keep a couple of bottles in special needs.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND buying some Ironman Perform and seeing if it works for you.  If gatorade agrees with you, than more-than-likly so will the Ironman Perform.  Living off the course we shave A LOT of weight off your bike.

Last year I had an aero drink with perform between my aerobars, and I had my aero profile design arundel bottle attached to the frame filled with carbopro and water.  That's it.  And I drank my aero profile gatorade pretty quickly after I got out of the water.

I believe there is an aid station roughly every 11 miles on the bike, that's 5 aid stations per 56 mile loop offering water, Perform and bananas, occasionally gels.  I remember on the out & back grabbing a water and putting it in my back cage, and then there was a slight climb.  From not having anything on my bike, I could feel the full water bottle on the back!

So my set up (unless they predict 95+ degrees and 100% humidity) will be aero arundel on the frame, and aero drink between the aerobars.  I will have the two back cages open for extra bottles that I grab from aid stations.

Bobby - So on the back cages do you just bring empty bottles, I thought it was a bottle exchange so you would have to give up a bottle to get a bottle.  So if you start with empty cages how do you get them with bottles of stuff?  I didn't get to see the bike portion of the race when I volunteered last year, so I didn't get to see how the transitions worked when it comes to the bike.  I can only envison it as a mass pileup with people just stopped grabbing all kinds of food and drinks.

No empty bottles on the back.  Just empty open cages.  The bottle exchange is not a literal exchange 1 for 1.  You can drop off two bottles and pick up none.  Just pick up one bottle and drop none.  Etc...

What I do, is drink my Aero Drink right after I come out of the water.  (There's also drinks available in Transition 1 if you're not in a super rush.)  Drink a few squirts of my carbopro.  First Aid Station I grab water and eat a Powerbar.

Last year I ate 4.5 power bars on the bike and washed them all down with Perform.  Plus a bunch of gels, it was just too much sugar (for me) and my gut shut down on the Run.  This year I'm going to be a lot more specific about my hourly nutrition plan, and stick to it.  I'm going to drink more water, less Perform, and get more electrolytes through Salt Stick caps.  I'm going to try and perfect this during my Long Rides in training first.

I have been trying to come up with one all day but can't seem to do it.  I've been slowly prepping the wife for when this day finally came.  I don't think she was thinking it was going to be so soon.  I started to get the couch ready.

Jason-that is one seriously sexy bike!

--------------------------------

So, for all who are interested, my conclusion/comparison of my road bike ride 3 weeks ago and my first tri bike ride have me convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is a huge advantage to the tribike-even with no experience. I'm guessing this has a lot to do with the fact I had a great fitting along with improved weight, specs and aero profile.

I rode the exact same 'course'-13 miles out and back=26 miles total.

Shite man that's a bad-a$$ ride.  Angles look wicked steep and aero.  Love the color scheme.  Ride her long and often

I hope that is the case with me,  I didn't try the new bike out this morning, being that it is a long day.  I did't think I would make 2 and a half hours on it.  I'll be doing all the other rides during the week on it.  With the trainer ride this morning, I'm looking to get off the bike as fast as possible.  This mornings trainer ride was just brutal for me.

Really awesome!! As they say, nothing ventured nothing gained.  Kudos for Lance on accepting as I am sure he gets millions of requests. It is great to see how he matured after his battle with cancer and has turned his challenges into a win for humanity.

I too, had a great weekend of training.

Saturday - 2 hour run with a 20 minute spin!

Sunday - 60 mile hilly ride (4200' accend) with a 20 minute transition run.

Actually felt very good on the new tri bike.  I also agree that a tri bike with the right set-up is much faster compared to roadbikes.  I think the biggest difference is rider aerodynamics.

Great to see you are enjoying the new bikes....best of luck!

Great weekend Got a 2 hr. outside ride in w/ lotsa rollers and a few good climbs w/ a short run afterwards. I have no idea who took my legs but they were replaced by speedy ones so Im not complaining. Great transition run - even if it was only 10 mins....

Great weekend for me as well!
Saturday was cold so I went for a run instead 12k total
Sunday I got 71Km for 3hrs ride, with decent hills

Question:  I am new to aero bike and I find that my trapezeus muscle and my neck was sore and tired while riding, is this something that goes away with time?

Also, I ride a Cobbs saddle and i find that when Im not reaching for the aerobars is when im sitting on the tip of the saddle and that tip of the saddle is just in the space between the manly parts and backdoor exit.  Is this the correct way to sit in aero position?  Sorry trying to describe it as much as I could without crossing the line.

Weekend was ok,  I was able to get through all the training but for some reason the 2.5 hour trainer ride was brutal this weekend.  I didn't try out the new tri bike for the long ride but did use it for the 30 min ride yesterday.  I was surprised on how my legs felt afterwards when I went for a short transition run.  Hopefully they feel something close to that when I get off the bike on longer rides.

great weekend for me. Had a local race Saturday, Shamrock run, and crushed a PR on the 4.08 mile course. Ran 33:49, 8:17 pace, and did everything but a flip at the end. I ran this race 2 years ago and my time was 50:01.

Wanted to be in the top 3rd of the field.... finished 756/3154 and 52/160 in my AG.

Was able to get outside Sunday and ride for 2 hours, nothing like the sun beating down on your back, face, hands... well just about anything.

Masters tonight, 10 weeks to Triple T Ohio and sending my last rent check in to the house in Placid today! just got real.

Jason/JMoney

When you go back for your follow up fitting, ask to see some other saddles. I really LOVE my Adami split saddle. I've always been a bit sore/numb on my road bike, but I rode farther, and earlier in my training this block, with almost no issue. I'll bet they'll let you try various saddles at the fitting.

Congrats on your maiden ride!

-----------------------

Bobby/Dreamchaser-

I thought of you when riding yesterday and made sure to keep my focus towards the end of the ride. I did not want any accidents or issues and wanted to say 'thanks' for that tidbit of knowledge.

-----------------------

BooTri

Nice race!

----------------------

Nice rides everyone! Great weekend work.

I was bragging to my friend today at work about training. She is a veteran of IMLP.I told her that I rode 48 miles on the new bike.

She told me that she swam 2.4 miles in the pool and then went for a ride herself on the trainer.

100miles...5.5hrs.

sigh...
