I'm just curious, are any of you guys urban riders?

Due to time constraints (and because Yanti is trying to seriously kill me with this plan) I do all of my rides in the city.

I swear, every day I could do a full race report on the crazy stuff that happens.

Which is why I ride as remotely as possible!

When I ride to work(s) I am scared for some people.  I see cyclists do stuff I wouldn't dream of doing.

Nope, suburban/rural rider here, thank goodness!  I can only imagine all you see/hear/survive every trip.  Feel free to share, unless they are of the variety of the one from your run...ok, nevermind, share them, too!  We like being skeeved out by tales of creepos in cars 'feeding the geese'.

bcraht - 2013-05-13 12:48 PM Can y'all imagine where Salty would be if she hadda started running sooner?  My god, I WOULD have to get on my bike to keep up! Laughing

Frown This depresses me if I think about it too much. I mean, of course, I can't change the past and it's a waste of time to think of "what could have been" plus, I was probably waaaaaay too immature and unfocused even just, like, last week Wink

But yeah ... I see some of my teammates who ran in college and had that really solid 10+ year base that they can keep building on while I am working my tail off to just start a foundation.

Meeeeh, I know, poor me.

I think I must be feeling sorry for myself today. Sorry guys!

I know how you feel there. Have had some of the same thoughts myself.

Eeks. I am going to sign up for some track meets here coming up. I think the likelihood of being DFL is quite high.

Ugh now I need to decide which event I would like to DFL. 3K, 5K ... mile? 800??

The 800 will have you least likely to be lapped.

But seriously, just go do whatever race you like to do most. Don't worry about what the field does. Not sure I'll get to a track meet, but doubt a swim meet is all that different in this regard. The one I did a couple weeks ago, I was way down in the heats. Like at least 3/4 of the field was faster. While I did have others around me in speed, I look really out of place among those getting ready for retirement.

Haha! Yeah, so seriously that was my train of thought on the 800. Maybe I will be 30 seconds behind, which is exactly 1 sh*t ton in relation to the distance but at least I wouldn't hold up an entire track meet haha.

At least you probably look better in a speedo than the AARP members? Maybe? Wink

None of those races are really *that* long, so go for what you like. And do what you want to run, not what you might like to avoid. That doesn't seem like a good mindset to have.

I don't do less than jammers.

rrrunner - 2013-05-13 1:01 PM So I waited WWWWAAAAAYYYYYY too long to book a hotel for my race Saturday night and apparently everything in town is taken. So DH and I are sleeping in a 6 person cabin at the KOA and I now have to pack linens. Oh well, we'll make it fun. It's the beginning of our "mostly no itinerary" vaca.

ROFL!! That's exactly what we are doing this weekend. For the same reason. The race is near Lawrence (University of Kansas) and it's commencement weekend, so nothing, and I mean nothing, is available within 60 miles of the park. I nabbed the last six person KOA Kamping Kabin.

Adventure!!!!

2 things I know:

1) Salty is smokin' fast. Any faster is just not right.

2) If she ever changes her avi, I may cry. She is also just smokin' hawt.

OK, I'm getting back to work now, I'm done.

I cannot argue either of those points.  Although if the avvie is equally hawt or hawt-er, I would not complain.

LOL! Well I guess it depends on what you consider hawt.

Nah, I am more or less joking about that. If I wasn't joking, I would have opted for the 100 Smile

I don't exactly know what I would like to race as I have never done it, but I will definitely do something I want to do. I don't care to peer pressure THAT easily.

Adrienne, I have another Jayson story -- you have to scroll through my pity rant this morning about Mother's Day to get to it. Imagine a 6 year old reciting a poem and when he can't remember the lines, just saying "blah, blah, blah, blah, blah," until he gets to a part he remembers again. lol

gute nachos totally works for me! I have a step-brother in Germany and once in a while I try to send him a message in German but it rarely translates well.

Strange app name, no?  No, I only mentioned it to see if anyone else had heard of it or used it.  It almost seems too good to be true - international calls and texts for free.

If you have time read this thread...scroll down a bit for this lady's race report.  It's outstanding.  Race report of the month for sure.

I love the part about no sharks. Just thinking about having to deal with sharks will make me freak out in the pool!
