Reno8 - 2008-08-24 7:43 AM Hope your race went well Leslie.

Hi, Steve!!! Was thinking of you the other day ... sure have missed you.

Thanks...it's been a strange and difficult summer.  I've been training (but haven't logged hardly a thing) and raced in June and have another comming up in late Sept.  Going to concentrate on running for the fall as I have a half Mary in Oct and my first full Mary at Disney in Jan.

I am glad to be back in a better place and will be back with my favorite Manatee friends now.

 Steve

Yes love ... great that you've been running, and your warm Manatee friends are so delighted you are here. I surely understand about getting to a better place.

On the topic of transitions, I came across this article which I thought was kind of helpful.  I never thought of wearing my race belt under my wet suit.

hey beth-yes i am trying to time the surgery possibly in early october, but because of my work schedule (IT project manager), it may have to wait until january. i did talk to the doctor about continuing to train-he is fine with it. he is actually one of the top rated othopedic surgeon on the west coast so i do respect his opinion. my two choice are to do the meniscous transplant or a knee replacement, and in my research the meniscous transplant is effective and a shorter recovery period. thanks for the support.

I saw a couple of people doing this on Saturday.  Seems like it worked fine.  I wore a race skirt that had a place to attach the number, so I just stepped into it in T2.  I don't think it took enough extra time to warrant swimming in it!

Will-you knocked out 5 miles...did your knee feel ok?  I hope so, and am glad to are working on fixing the issues!

I don't have any more triathlons this summer, and am feeling a bit blue about that.  I guess that's normal, right?  The half marathon I was going to run filled up before I registered, so that's out.  I am going to train for a half in November and sign up if I am in town and feel like doing it, but will have a soft goal in the meantime.

Of course it's normal to feel a little down about the season being over -- especially when you've had such a fantastic season! You could always come down here and do a couple races with me (assuming I get my act together and start actually, like, training again). There's an all-women's sprint at the end of September...

I definitely think you should do that half mary in November. It's such a fun distance and you'd do really well at it.

I have come to the conclusion that triathlons are a little like crack (not that I have ever done crack!).  As soon as you finish one, you want to do it all over again.   I do wish I lived in a climate where the season was  year round or at least longer than late June-September.

One thing I have done this year that is different from previous years is sign up for a lot more short distance races (10k to half marathon) which keeps me focusing on something without the need for a long recovery like a marathon.  I also started doing some of the local charity bike events which has been a lot of fun and good practice.

My mind is already filled with thoughts of next year.  I know I want to step up the distance so what do I need to do to get there while balancing marathon training in December and April.  All good things to ponder over a very long winter in Wisconsin...........

Happy Long Weekend to all.

I am still around but have not spent a ton of time in the forums of late.  I am hoping to do an Oly in October but it's looking more like a sprint due to challenges with meeting the training schedule.

Have a wonderful weekend, Manatees!!!!

Hi Will!

good to hear you will be able to get the surgery scheduled and it sounds like you will be receiving the very best care and are getting good advice.

Hey guys,

Sorry for being MIA for a while, gang. I've been VERY discouraged over the situation with my shoulder. I finally saw the ortho Friday. Full details are in my log, but he basically said there's only about a 5% chance of being able to do my tri in October. So, it looks like my tri dream will have to wait for next season. On the upside, he did clear me to start running and biking again, but swimming is still on hold.

Hey everyone.  Well summer is basically over (kids are in school tomorrow) so my break is over from training.  I was worried I wouldn't get out and do anything but I went for a nice 30 k bike ride this morning with a bunch of IronMan Canada finishers so it was a nice easy spin and an inspiring ride to hear them talk about it.  I have some more swim lessons lined up that start next week so back at that also now just for some running.

Hope everyone is doing great and I hope to be around a bit more now.

Melissa - so sorry to hear the results of your visit weren't what you were hoping for

On the positive side, now you have plenty of time to feel comfortable on the bike - hang in there!

Manatees,

I'm thinking about buying a new HRM - I think I have the money and I may not have to wait until it's a Christmas present

any words of wisdom?

I LOVE my Garmin 305!!!  It's big on the wrist but I am used to it...I also don't stare at it as much as I did when I first got it.  I am sure it is providing me some good data, should I choose to use it!

I love my 305 also.  nice thing is you can get it and have it clip on a mount for your bike also and and then back on your wrist.  Waterproof I don't think so.  I have seen people swim with them under their swim caps not sure if that is really recommended

Put it on your neck?    Just kidding.  I am sure you can try one on at a store and see how it fits.  There is a new model, the 405, which is smaller.  I think there's a thread about waterproofing the 305 with aquarium sealant in order to swim with it, somewhere on BT.  I know a lot of people love their Polars, as well, and they are definitely smaller.

I will chime in that I have and LOVE the 305 as well but with your anatomy anomaly I would look at the 405.  I know the 305 isn't recommended for water use but I don't know about the 405.  They both merge well with the BT-logs and for an ubber-geek like you, you will get the max usage...unlike me who just uses it for pace/distance and occasional HR monitoring. NO...I'm  not having a bad day...why do you ask!
