D001 - 2009-10-20 9:25 PM I used to get lots of ladybugs in my house every fall. But I haven't seen any around here. (New house, new state.) Hmmm.... Maybe the "larger insects" have eaten them all. I found out today there are giant cockroaches here. Do you feel my joy?

ew ew ew!  I'd much rather have ladybugs.

x2!  We had cockroaches the size of small children in Guam and I will happily take my ladybugs over those any day!  Yuck.

We have those big roaches in MS too, they affectionately call them Bark Beetles around here. They do get in my house every now and again, but luckily are not the kind that raid the kitchen. Pretty benign, just big!

Morning team! I am planning on a swim today.  I need to watch the clock while running errands so I do not miss lap swim!!!  That is the beauty of running-it doesn't have to be precisely planned and scheduled!

Got my 10k done.  It was HOT out, around 55 degrees and sunny.  I was sweating like it was summer!  Beautiful day.

Nice running Jen and Erica!  Good luck on the half marathon Luc!  I am going to try to run today - my long run on Monday still hurts in my knees and right foot...  Not sure what I did wrong....  Gotta drop a 5k today and 8k tomorrow to stay on track...

ebshot - 2009-10-20 2:07 PM Does anyone know anything about getting rid of ladybugs?  I have a million of them outside my house and a bunch inside.  Ewwwww!

The queston is "What are they eating?"  Generally ladybugs eat aphids and the like that damage landscape and house plants.  It may be a blessing...  Besides, except for the one in the Antz movie, they are pretty cute...

Normally I'd agree that it wouldn't be a big deal.  But, they are in my house tons of them.  Fortunately, it isn't just my house.  It seems to be statewide.  Knowing that makes me feel better.  But, it is freaking out my ASD kiddo.

Get a cat (or borrow one) !    We had that problem in Germany and like you, seeing a few of them is cute but hundreds kind of gives you a different take on them.  I, however, am a bit superstitious so I couldn't kill them and we were being bombarded by them until my cat found them ~ needless to say, we never say another ladybug!

I hate to do a drive by (I seriously need to get some homework done and am having issues forcing myself to just do it) but I have to tell someone (since writing it in my log just isn't enough!)  I have always struggled with tempo runs and a friend (Mike/WhatwasIthinking) asked me about it last week.  Well he gave me what I affectionately call "Mike's Tempo Run Directions for Dummies" and it is unbelievable the strides I have made just in the last two weeks!  I'm finding that I am able to run faster than I could have ever thought possible.  This morning I ran a 5 mile tempo run and my best mile was a 7:33 min/mile pace and that was my last one before my cool down!!  Can you tell I'm just a bit excited?!?

Tempo running is the bomb! And the improvements overall that you'll see will have you doubly excited.

In my younger days, in another century, I trained for my fastest marathon doing very long tempo runs during my mid-week long runs. I would warm up for about 3-5 miles, and then run at tempo pace for 10 miles, then cool down for a couple of miles. I ran a 3:50 at Marine Corps that year, and the only reason I didn't go faster is because I had yet to learn pacing and went through the first half in 1:40-something.

Okay. That's funny. 70s too hot? That's downright pleasant down here. In fact, I almost need a sweater.

So, I've been sort of struggling with my right plantar fascia. It's been sore when I start running, usually fades, will sometimes get sore afterward, but I also don't have the standard morning foot pain. It's really been manageable so far, but on my last 3 or so runs, the beginning has been pretty painful. Yesterday's short brick was very painful and it only eased up a bit toward the end. Coach is now saying to not run for a few days. I have a race on Saturday, not to mention this challenge.

Yeesh.

I will take today and tomorrow off. See how Saturday goes (maybe pull the plug). And here I was thinking I would up my goals for the month because I would easily exceed my initial 80 miles. Now, there's a possiblity I will have to back off of my goals.

Double yeesh.

I got my run done.  I decided that instead of heading out to the left of my house, I'd throw on my 'let's not get shot' orange and headed into the forest.  Wow.  I didn't have one car go by and it was absolutely gorgeous.  That being said, wicked hilly!  Ouch.

I've been having some issues too. It's *not* sore when I wog. Or, at least, I don't notice it while I wog. But it's sore afterwards.

If you need to revise your goal due to it, you may.
