We have to worry about the oil spill but did you guys hear that the damn in Tempe town lake broke so there is a question what will happen to IM AZ's swim?

How weird to have two unusually things happen same year with possible implications on IM swims.

I use twizlers cut in 1/2  No melty.  Important in south FL in th summer.  For me I think the prezels would get sweat logged and be too mesy.  I'mnot a big peanutbutter fan but to each his or her own.  I've used fun sized airheads too.

I used the PB pretzels and Cinn. bears for my first IM. Love them!! I hate gels, they mess with my stomach. I did the full IM and never used a gel. Candy!!! All the way!

Just getting caught up after camping all week.  It's kind of funny reading about the candy preferences.  During my century ride Sunday I used Infinit as my nutrition, but I did sneak a few oreos at the later aid stations for something different and I thought "these are going in my special needs bag".

So...it's hot here.  I wass making myself feel better by looking up historic average temperatures back home...so I would know when to expect the temps to start dropping.

And I looked up PCB...and it makes me smile...average highs around the race are in the 70's...I mean, that's like a freaking ICE BOX!

Yep.  It actually has the most stable weather of all the IMs. it was 31  on the beach in 2006 and watching Placid in 2007 I just thought it was completely WRONG that they had warmer weather than ironman FLORIDA.  It MIGHT have broken 70 at IMFL in 2006.  Be prepared for wind.  We had excellent weather the last 3 years.  Jen is going to need Gore tex after being in Iraq

No kidding! I had best break out the arm warmers!   Hopefully since it will still be summer when I get back I will quickly "down adapt" to the "new hot" and then it will slowly decrease from there...and maybe not send me into shock!

I hope the weather is as nice this year as it was last year....last year was perfect out!  It wasn't too chilly in the morning either but still didn't get hot!

Good Morning IMFL Peeps!!!

Just got in my first actual bike ride since my tumble last week, and although it was much shorter that what I should be at for this point in training it felt amazing! I was getting a little bummed out since I was really getting into a training groove before I fell off the bike but today really helped my mood out.

I actually tried going out for a group ride on Thursday but had a sharp pain in my left sitz bone when I got on the saddle. I thought it was weird, but after today I realized I had my left leg at 6 o'clock when I had my wreck so the seat must have given me a nice nudge when I ate it, was much more tolerable today.

Last but not least I found the culprit of my accident last week. I rode down the same spot and was paying much more attention this time, and spotted a raised portion of asphalt in the middle of the service lane/bike lane. The entire portion of road is black and it looks like the road crew just spilled a little extra asphalt and it formed a little hill that I couldn't see when I was trying to grab something out of the back of my jersey. Fortunately I avoided it this time and the ride went well.

PS: Hopefully it will be in the mid to low 60's when we get on the bike. I want to keep my body from overheating for a long as possible.

Hi my name is Kim Archbold.  I am planning on participating in IMFL.  This will be my first ironman.  I am looking forward to the next few months.  Just finished a great 4:30 brick in the Atlanta heat!

F1, be sure to check the allignment of your seat.  I just had a bike fit on Tuesday, and found that my seat was pretty severly bent.  cocked to the side.  I guess it got bent in one of the two falls I've taken.

Anyway - just a tip from my experience.

Glad to hear you're "back in the saddle again."

I put a thin long sleeve top on in 07 and 09 on the second loop of the run.  The wind was chilly once the sun went down.

I checked the seat and all the angles look okay. I figure the carbon seat post would crack before it bends haha.

Anyone know what flavor of Gatorade will be served on course?

it will not be gatorade - it will be powerbar ironman perform.  Only available online and can be shipped to canada for the low low price of $150 for 12 bottles.  *eyeroll*.  I think I need to call Ironman and see what we can do about that.

I think there are only three flavours -

There are three flavors of Powerbar drink. I bought the old Powerbar Endurance for under $10 for 52 servings of powder from REI. If you look at nutrition info of old and new product they are almost exactly the same.

I wonder if they will ship us a free case like they did for IM Lake Placid, RI70.3 and IMKY registered athletes.

Guess I missed the memo, I was under the impression that they were only switching to the Powerbar stuff for a select few races. Guess I should go check out REI when I get a chance.

Little set back in the training, dumped the bike and broke the collar bone.   Should be ready for cedar point half I hope.

Registered for ImLP yesterday. Just a set back, trainer is already rolling.

To follow up on Kathy's comments about Powebar Endurance versus Ironman Perform, the below is taken directly from Powerbar's website.  I am not a scientist or anything but the the answer appears to be a long-winded way of saying “no difference.”

How do PowerBar® Endurance sports drink and Ironman Perform compare?

The key ingredients of an effective sports drink are electrolytes (particularly sodium, the key electrolyte lost in sweat), and carbohydrates. PowerBar® Endurance Sports Drink and Ironman Perform are very similar in all of these key ingredients. Both contain the same carb blend, C2MAX, which is a 2:1 glucose to fructose blend found to deliver 20–50% more energy to working muscles than glucose alone and improve endurance performance by 8%. Both offer 190 mg of sodium per 8 fl ounce serving as well.

If you are looking for a powdered alternative to Ironman Perform, PowerBar Endurance sports drink is a good choice.

Hey All!
Just got back from a nice camping vacation.  Other than a great open water swim I took a week off for various reasons.  Getting back into it actually feels good, I feel a little more renewed and rested.  Thats probably that only break I will take but it was much needed.  Looking forward to some long flat rides coming up in August as well as a 2 mile OWS.

As far as my candy preference, in marathons I love M&Ms! But thats only when people hand them to me and I don't have to carry them.  Ordered some more Infinit nutrition today.  Im amazed how much I can just get by on liquid nutrition.  I've been enjoying the Cliff Shot Bloks for something sweet and chewy though!

Hope everyone is getting a chance to enjoy their summer as well as their training.
