I, also feel undertrained. Especially on the bike. With only a couple of 80 mile rides and 2 weeks to go, I am hoping to get a 100 miler in this week.  I am pretty confident in the swim and on the run. I just don't know about that bike.

Since this is my first IM, people say I should just go and have fun. But, I have a hard time not having a time goal. I'm going to put it out there and maybe y'all can set me straight.

Swim 1:20.xx (2.00/100)  8:20

Bike 6:15.xx  (18mph) 3:00ish

Run 4- 4 1/2 hours  (9-10min/mile)

Finish between 7 and 7:30

Looked at your Training Log... Maybe you haven't done a lot of long rides... but your volume is there. Just don't blow it out on the bike, save it for the run. You will be fine.

Did my first century..5:43.58 with an eight minute stop to refill my bottles and eat a banana.  Thanks.  During the ride I kept thinking I have to run after this?

Great job!

We all think about running that marathon after the century in training! And we all wonder, "how will I do it?".

Remember you will be rested after your taper. Then on race day you will be focused. And you will also be REALLY HAPPY to get off the bike!

Finally, it is mind over matter. Your mind tells your body to keep going, no matter what.

No restroom stops? If so, try drinking more water.

Curious- who's still planning on wearing their wetsuit?  I'm doing a practice run in mine at the pool- they have a warmer pool so I will be able to decide how warm is too warm- All my Im's have been in colder water so I'm a little nervous about wetsuit or no wetsuit......

Since we are talking about wetsuits and what to wear... Top and bottom singlets or trisuit for the race? Both seem to have pros and cons but let's throw it out there what you wear and why, or why not. I'm still up in the air on what to do personally. Have trained the last few days in both. Regardless, it was hot.

I'm doing top and bottom seperates, I hate the restriction of the tri suits-  I was hoping to wear bike gear under wetsuit but if it's not a good wetsuit temp IDK!!

Taper is killing my brain!!

Two, one at 50 miles (after refilling bottles and banana). Then again about 80. I think you're right about drinking more, though.

From what I understand if you wear a wetsuit you start 15 minutes later and still have the same cut off..

Well if it's less than 84, I'm planning on wearing my sleeveless. I'm mentally preparing to not though just incase. Currently the water temp is 81 and seems to be climbing 1 degree per day.

I am still contemplating a wetsuit.  I can do the distance, and have done it 3 times in the pool, but at my slow pace I was chilled when I got out.  I also did a 1500 with the wetsuit when the pool had a heater problem and the water was 86 or so.  Overheating is not an issue for me.  Just have to decide if it is worth the 10 minute start delay.

Being a post hog tonight, but on facebook IM's page it is showing the new backpacks they are giving out to all US IM participants this year. No more drawstring bags, these are actual backpacks and IMO they are pretty sweet.

Tire Pressure - pumping up pre-dawn in 75 F weather and racing in the sun at 90 F ...... how much do you back off from 120 psi (if any)?

I will be a volunteer at IMTX with Team Red, White, Blue on the run course.  Hopefully, I will get there early enough to put down some chalk to help cheer all the BTer's on.  Take care and I will see you in a couple of weeks!!!

During the race I will go around 105-110 psi, but that is what I do on a daily basis anyways . 120 psi is my wheels suggested max. pressure, and I am not going that high.

My question was misunderstood - with the temperature rise will come an increase in tire pressure - is it something to consider when pumping up in the early hours when relatively cool or not?

My point was that I would not go as high as the max. suggested pressure.

However, trying to answer your question:

According to Amontons (1702), there is a linear increase in pressure with temperature for air. And this linear increase is about 1/3 from 0C to 100C. Considering that from morning to midday the temperature will change from 75F (~23C) to 90F (~32C), there will be a temperature change of approximately 9C. So the overall pressure will increase by 1/3/(100/9) = ~1/33, which is about 3.63 psi. Hence, I do not think that it is something to consider .

(I hope I did not make any calculation mistakes :D.)

You will be fine because the temps will not get out of the 70's!Seriously, do not worry about that. You will almost be done with your bike when it hits 90 and the heat will not be enough to kill your tubes.
