Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sam, sorry to hear about your divorce and hope that the training helps you find some balance in your life Today a 4000m swim at lunch (incredibly how easy it is to loose fitness after not swimming in a month) Jackie 5 9:53:28 |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by trisuppo Jackie / Joe: Sock question for you both. Where are you "feeling it" when you wear the sock. Both nights I have felt stretching around the back/bottom of my heel. Not pain, but slightly uncomfortable - at least in the middle of the night when I'm trying to sleep. Just trying to gauge if I'm getting the right effect. Mitch, I don't really feel much when wearing the sock. I notice the difference the next morning. You may be pulling it too tight. It should just keep your foot and ankle at a 88-90 degree angle. If it's forward more than that, your toes will hurt the next day. The idea is just to keep you from pointing your toes at night and that's what keeps the tendon stretched. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by JoePetto So I am going to try and play along this month as well. I've been adding in consistency over the last month as my schedule has thrown me a number of curve balls. Early morning workouts have shifted to evening as needed. I've been running 4-5 days a week and hit the bike this weekend for a drainer ride for the first time since July. The pool has been elusive as well, but am trying to get back to 2-3x per week, but we will see. At this point, I am just trying to stay healthy - except for my 11 mile tempo run this morning. I went out trying to take it easy, but . . . I am about 3 weeks into my meditation program and have been practicing every day. I was very suspicious of it at first, but am finding that I am getting a lot out of it. It has some applicability in long distance training (my breathing in general has improved greatly in all aspects), but find it to be an incredibly useful tool in daily life. Joe, so glad that the meditation is working. We do a lot with the breath in yoga. Glad that you are on your way back! |

In terms of the sock, Mitch, I put the sock on while standing on the floor and allow for just a slight inflection upwards of the toes. When you lie down it may slightly tighter. Should be slight tension. Jackie, the only problem with meditation is that session are about 40 mins per day - which means less time to train. Forcing myself to rest the foot which is tough knowing I have a HM in 11 days. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So much for my OWS tonight. Drove 20 miles only to have a storm build over the lake. I was so about to go anyway until the thunder rolled and I tucked tail and ran!! Try again tomorrow night I guess! (FM830.JPG) Attachments ---------------- FM830.JPG (102KB - 2 downloads) |

My youngest was struck by lightning when she was 13. It was not pretty and she still has some after effects. Not worth it! Mark H, where are you? How's the taper coming? Mitch, in the next 10 days you can't gain much fitness, but you can hurt yourself. Be smart and rest. Pool run if you need something to do ;-) Edited by jackiep 2014-10-09 7:17 PM |

Not worht it No Worries Jackie, My wife was with me to play lifeguard from her Kayak so there is no way I would have been able to do anything stupid. Now had I been by myself…….hmmmm! Originally posted by markz Dennis, your 20 mile trip to the lake makes me realise how easy it is for me to do those OWSs. I better kick myself in the backside and swim more. I really have to put in my mind that I need to get the OWS in. I found it easier to go to the lake directly from work, if I would go home first it made it that much harder for me to get up to the lake. Went to chiro on Monday. He said I had pelvic rotation, which he fixed. I was not sore Monday, and I swam on Tuesday. Since then, I have felt more sore. Lots of stress at work, nutrition took a dive and well, the sucky run is the result. Hope to get back on track over the weekend. |

That's a good point Mitch. We probably have a higher probability of being seriously hurt or disabled by a Redneck in a pick up while on the bike then anything else. |

![]() ![]() | ![]() Tried to swim yesterday, fought it out for twenty measly minutes, just couldn't get my head right. Today though I had a 60 minute strength training session with a personal trainer - Lunges with rotations, Single leg RDLs, core work... Was still feeling energetic afterward so I hopped on a spin bike for 55 minutes while watching the start of the Hockey Season (GO PENS!!)
