Well I have the nagging calf and have thought about this. How did you get started on it?

bzgl40 - 2010-01-13 6:34 AM Hum, I have no nagging injuries or anything but I'd like to stay that way and your intriguing me with this chi running.  You reading a particular book you'd recommend?

trying - 2010-01-12 6:58 PM Justine that looks like some nasty battle scars. I'm glad you're ok, maybe you can milk it a little with the wife and kids and get breakfast in bed or something.. Just a thought.-I'm in the process of learning the chi running technique and finally had a big break through today. I ran a little over 7.5 miles mainly concentrating on core and hip rotation and foot placement and as a result had a great run. PR on HR for this distance and more importantly my knee felt great. I did notice that if I deviated from the form my HR would increase and my knee would feel a little off but once I concentrated on the technique it would feel better and my HR would lower. It was a great experience.

OK  everyone I know I was gone for 2 days but today I am back. You know what day it is. Dont be lying to me and say you are not sitting at your desk doing a jig when you think about Hump Day.

I like to rhyme,
I like my beats funky,
I'm spunky.  I like my oatmeal lumpy.

I got started based on what my physical therapist said, he told me that if I don't layoff on  running I may need to have surgery within the yr because I was having inconsistent wear on my right knee and it was creating a clicking noise and would lock-up sometimes at mile 5 or so and be very sore after a run.  He recommended that I read "Chi Running A revolutionary Approach to Effortless, Injury-Free Running by Danny Dreyer."  Several of my friends already recommended the book and since the PT recommended it I decided to take the plunge.  I think it's a great book because it doesn't just talk about running technique.  It talks about the mental approach to running (that is applied to other things you do as well) and understanding how your body feels and reacts to things.  I still need to constantly refer to the book to properly do the exercises it recommends and I haven't gone through all the exercises yet.  I refer to video clips on youtube as well and I'm thinking about buying the DVD since it's sometimes hard to visualize what's on the page.

I'm also a big fan of Chi Running and reading this has inspired me to pull the book back out.  Will do that tonight when I get home. I attended one of their 1/2 day seminars with a local coach in Jersey and thought it helped a lot.  I had a lot of wasted energy in my form and while I still need to improve I think it made a difference.   Thanks for the reminder!  And CONGRATs on the breakthrough!!

We've made it to Wednesday! It's of special importance to me since it is a rest day. I'm always appreciative of that. Sure wish I could join those of you who are running Houston this weekend. Best wishes for a great day and PRs to all of you!

Nik & I did Eric's swim workout last night. I was amazed at how good I felt. Of course my stamina wasn't what it was at the end of last season, but I'm quite impressed that I was able to pull a 1:36 and a 1:38 on my 2 fast 100s.

Justine, you are a trooper...hang in there!

I like the sound of Chi running as well...I might have to delve into that. I've learned to like the run a little more, but I'm still trying to get to the point of loving it. I'm sure my form (or lack thereof) probably has something to do with it.

Hope everyone has a great day...enjoy the training...or the rest...or the taper. Laughing

Nicole83 - 2010-01-12 4:30 PM Justine- glad you're OK!  But you gotta warn a girl when you're going to put up a near bare a.ss shot.  Some of us look at this at work ya know.

Hi everyone.  It's been an insane week for me but just wanted to pop in and say hey.  Eric, don't punish me (as you're clearly trying to do already), but I don't know that I'm going to get pool workouts in this week.  I will try, but I've got a lot going on.  The group shouldn't suffer because I'm lazy.

Happy Tuesday ya'll.

There were some raised eyebrows in my direction.

My work life sucks right now.  This is the first free 5 minutes I've had today and I'm here until at least 8 again tonight.

I'm starting to feel like Justin.

No workout for me again tonight.

Bah.

But at least it's HUMP day.  (yes Todd, I'm doing a little dance for you.

Moving on...

So last night I ended up getting out of work and taking a late class at the gym to get my mind to settle down.  I went to the girly gym (all women's) and figured I would take "Xtreme Training,"  thinking to myself that it woudn't be all that bad since it's an all women's facility.

The class participants all looked about on par with my fitness level.

And then the class began.

This b.itch was nuts.  Absolutely bats.hit crazy.  I have never, ever worked so hard in my entire life.

Mind you, the class was great and I would defiantely take it again, but every single muscle in my body hurts today, and it hasn't even been 24 hours yet.

The moral of the story is that whole book cover one, but typing makes my forearms hurt so I'm not going to bother putting the whole thing out there.

Happy Thursday everyone!

So last night I get home and do the usual stuff. Letting dogs out of thier pins to go outside. Get the baby girl what ever she needs, throw the keys on the counter and what not. Let the dogs back in and head to the bedroom to change. Puppy is all excited about being out and playing. Throw my pants on the bed and go to the bathroom to pee. As I am standing there doing my thing it seems puppy thought it would be a great idea to run between my legs and jump into the toilet to chase the "fluid" as I was midstreem. Now there is no way to insta stop peeing, grab puppy who is squirming arouind in the bowl and not have a royal mess.  Needless to say puppy and I had to take a shower and I had to do some cleaning. If I wasnt laughing so hard I might have been upset. But how can youu get mad at a cute little puppy.

Hey guys,

Got outside for a run yesterday, but was still really cold for me (34C) with brutal winds.  Knee still super sore after run but bareable while running.

Question for all you professionals:   Does the overall body soreness ever go away?  I am fine while training but the after is brutal.  Does this get better with time?

Good job in getting out there.

How long after do you remain sore?  I would have to say it goes away as your fitness builds and eventually your shorter easier workouts barely bother you or only bother you for a short time.  Your longer or more intense workouts will stay with you longer but shouldn't be more then a day.  But, when you change things up you'll be affected for longer.  I recover pretty quick right now.  My runs at the distance they are don't linger with me at all, regardless of the intensity.  It'll come with time and more important consistency.

So, the process of moving to Tucson has begun.  Not sure when we'll move but we are for sure hoping to have it done soon.  Looking at renting out my house instead of selling it due to the market, even though Oregon City faired better then most of the states.  But silly me bought at the peak of the market.  But....this potentially totally messes up my planned summer schedule.  I might stick to my registered half at the end of June regardless of where I live.  First off cause I bloody registered already.  But I really want to do that course.  I already have a camp site booked so I can either come down with the camper (2 day drive Surprised) or tent it.  No biggy, especially if I talk a sucker into driving.  But I really can't register for anything else at the moment until I know when I can move.  I can work from anywhere but my partner needs to figure out what to do work wise.

I switch up my workouts a TON and I am only seeing the same exercise one or twice a week, especially with the indoor and out door stuff in the winter.  So, will I ever build muscle memory, is that the problem?  Right now I am sore everyday....if I take a day or two off it is better but once I hit a good workout, right back to a sore bod?  I am still fairly new and hope I am not overdoing it?

Wow! Good luck with the move.  Tucson is such a great place.  The high desert in the spring is just spectacular.  I would happily toss my race schedule out the door to live in Arizona again.

I just snorted coffee out my nose and onto my keyboard.  I saw it coming halfway through, knew it was gonna happen, couldn't stop it.
