Morning Kate! How're your cells flowing today?

Oh it has been a bad lab morning.  One of my users really clogged one of my instruments and I am behind on setting up my cell sorter.

And you are you having fun?

Ugh...that sounds like a terrible lab morning!  I used to hate when people clogged the HPLC and it would take hours to clean out.  I started using the old one because no one else used it.

bcart1991 - 2010-07-30 9:42 AM So, it's been a rough couple of days. We were supposed to head down to FL (Tampa) to visit some of my family who J hasn't met yet. We wake up Wednesday morning, gotta go to her doctor for a quick checkup before we hit the road. J finds a little bit of spotty bleeding. Nothing major, but a couple of dark spots. We get to the doctor's office, and she heads back. They call me in for an emergency sonogram. Sonographer can't find the baby's heartbeat, which was definitely there two weeks ago. J was sobbing most of the afternoon, as was I. We've both been pretty torn up since Wednesday. J had a D&C procedure yesterday morning. It went well and she's resting at home.

I am so so sorry.

Ok TAN I have a question for you

My girls birfday is Aug 9th (a Monday). I have the kids from tonight to next Sun Aug 8th so we are celebrating her bday on that Sat Aug 7th. I got my girl a cool present that has to be adjusted to work correctly. I’m thinking of giving her the gift tonight so we can get it working correctly and she will have a week to learn on it rather then her getting it on that Sat and trying to get it set up then leaving on Sun. so what do you think?

BTW it’s a Super 9 bolt action air soft rifle with a scope and bi pod. She wants to learn how to shoot and asked for an air soft for her bday. I got her one that has all the functionality of a real rifle but only shoots rubber pellets so that way she can learn the safety, focus, and discipline that shooting evolves in a safe environment.

Sounds like going over 256 charachters for a text to Tony?

Oh yeah, hasn't your group heard about filtering your samples before injecting? Or making them to a reasonable concentration? As a previous admin for our LC/MS, I feel your pain....

When are the kids over again?  Give it to her early in the day Saturday so she can play with it before you do her dinner/party/whatever is planned, and then she'll be all the more excited to play with it more when she comes back in a week.  I think you should give a birthday present on a birthday (or the day intended to celebrate the birthday in this case).  She'll love the gift either way, but there is something about opening presents on your special day...

That was back when I was an undergrad working for the State of Wisconsin.  I figured out the quantity of pesticides in samples.  It doesn't matter what you do, the pesticides tend to gum up everything.  We had to clean all the glass with acetone.

Try making fluorescent cholesterol analogs for assay substrates. "Let's take grease and make it more lipophilic" Did work though!

I can see it both ways.

On the one hand, sometimes it sucks to get presents early.  But, if she gets it early, she'll have more chance to use it with you and that will be exciting.

Personally, I would give it to her early and try to make it special and make a big deal out of it.  If you can, have another small thing for her to open on her birthday.

Is this going to her mothers' with her?  If it's not, I say give it to her on her birthday, and then she has something (else) to look forward to when you get the kids again.

If it is going with her, I would give it to her early.  [start comment that will come off as sexist] You are probably more experienced with guns, and therefore you should be the one teaching her how to properly use it.  I wouldn't send it with her to her mother's not having experience and not having her know how to respect the power that a rifle can have. [/psuedo-sexist comment]

This. And even when I was a kid I loved early birthday presents!

Don't forget to give your son a little something too, to open on both occasions. Something as simple as a cool eraser is fine ... just something for him, too.
