I am still contemplating a wetsuit.  I can do the distance, and have done it 3 times in the pool, but at my slow pace I was chilled when I got out.  I also did a 1500 with the wetsuit when the pool had a heater problem and the water was 86 or so.  Overheating is not an issue for me.  Just have to decide if it is worth the 10 minute start delay.

For the wetsuit to be "worth it" with the 10 min delay it would have to save you 15sec/100yds to make up the difference. For me, I just don't think it is worth that, and I am SLOW. No wetsuit for me!

I have a question about swim wear regulations. Seeing as the water temp is supposed to be above 76.1 I am not planning on wearing a wetsuit, so now the question is what to wear. When I have raced Olympic distances in the past without a wetsuit I just wore my trisuit and I was wondering if this is race legal. The rules state that "A race kit or trisuit may be worn underneath swimwear/speedsuits" so does that mean that I have to wear additional swim wear if I want to wear my trisuit during the swim?

Thanks!

I wear my speedo swim suit witha sport bra under it and do a full change.  Too challenging to put on a sport bra when wet, so I leave it on.

Nope, wear your tri suit for the swim only or the entire triathlon. There is a list of banned speedsuits out there. You can check to see if yours is on the list. I'll be swimming in tri shorts an a top of some sort.

Last longish run today and was blessed with some 90 degree heat to start, dropped down to 86 at the finish but it was a good mental boost to finally get to run in the heat.  Going to cool off this weekend for my last long ride, then the bike is off to the shop for a final tune up.  Tri bike transport takes it away on the 11th.

What's up with everyone else this weekend?

I've got kids soccer games all morning followed by some playoff hockey with a trip to the pool that evening.  Sunday I'm looking at a long ride, 100? 110? 120? not quite sure, looking for a new route to ride.

After having a virus early this week and losing 9 pounds in 24 hours, I'm going to shake off the rust but no idea what I'll be able to do. I just need to do something. I thought I was hospital bound the virus hit so hard. Regardless, I'm sticking to my 13 hr goal. 14 if the winds are high. My first IM, but I've been waiting for this for since I was a kid.

TJ posted 84.4 in lake woodlands this morning. Maybe they will have water stops every few buoys.

Mother Nature might be bringing a whole lot of rain on race week too. But who knows. One forecast, a longshot at 2 weeks out, has rain for race day.

If the temp happens to drop and the rain comes in I will be well prepared, so you can count on wind and heat

Everyone was thinking that it would be a couple degrees cooler in the middle of the lake than where the temp was being taken. We all got it wrong.

84.4 this morning, and 2 weeks to go. Anything can happen, but you better start planning for the no wetsuit option.

Well, I did CB&I this morning in Lake Woodlands......guys it's WARM. Bathwater. We've been averaging a degree a day. It has to stop at some point doesn't it? I am usually cold, but I can see over heating in that. I think I will be taking the swim nice & slow. Good thing, since I'm slow anyway! Maybe they'll have buoys with water stations.

I know the forecast will change 15 times in the next 13 days, but right now, I am thinking I will take the rain just to have the 78 degree high temp they are currently calling for! It may make the bike course a little more tricky in spots, but overall, I will definitely take the cooler temps.

Oh and did I mention I love tapering for race day! What to do with all this free time??

Hate to jump into this thread WAY late but just got CRUSHeD by IRONMAN st George (dangerous swim, 300 people pulled from the water due to 3-4 foot swells from a windstorm that came 5 minutes after start and 25 mile headwinds with 40 mph gusts on the bike the whole course) and looking into Texas and coeur d'elene for my next one.....except I am looking for a place with little to no wind. I am over wind and never want to fear for my life in the swim again.Anyone know typical wind conditions on this course?

Can not see it ever getting that windy during the swim here, but it does getting pretty windy on the bike course t times. I can not say I have ever felt fear as described by so many yesterday.

Long ride short brick run done, time to taper. I was abused by the wind for most of the day so I have that going for me. Bike goes to the shop for a final tune up tomorrow and up to Richmond for tri-bike transport drop off on on Friday.

Hi All,

on Friday i will fly to Houston - can´t wait to drive the bikecourse (by car).

On Saturday i am planning to run 1 loop of the Runcourse:

Is it marked somehow ?
If not, is it easy to follow ?
If somebody would have a Garmin trx or gpx file of the loop it would be great...

Guess it should be possible to park close to the Run Start, or ?

On Sunday i am planning to ride 1,5 hours (about 28miles) on the bike course and then do a short 30min Run.

Can anybody of the locals recommend an interesting part on the bike course, where its possible to do a run afterwards (guess the start isn´t that suitable as it might take quite long to come out of town with the bike).

Lots of questions since the race is coming close

cheers,
Erwin

The transport trucks are in town and the building of IMTX 2012 has begun.

I still have some sort of bug I can not get ride of.  I am very weak today, stomache ache, nausious, and for once I do not want food.  My wife stayed at home today after throwing up all night and she has yet to recover.  I am glad it is taper, but man I wanted to get some pool time today and the rest of the week.
