First tri in three years this weekend.  Only 300y/8mi/5K, but gonna give it hell anyways!  Should be able to red line it the whole way.

Anyone else racing?

I'm still rocking the core (forgot to do it after my brick earlier, just knocked it out a few minutes ago).

I'm doing a very similar race on Saturday (slightly longer bike), I got into it when some other people dropped out. Bad set up for me...I would much rather shorten the run than the bike or the swim. This type of race is set up for the fast 5K'ers. I am decidedly *not* one of those types of triathletes.

I was just wondering where you were!

Nice job getting the core done in the hotel. Dang, you people are motivated.

And racing this weekend?  Excellent!  Give em hell.

I'm racing too

I am 'racing'.  A free, grass roots, put-on-by-the-community Oly.  No road closures, route marking done with flour, bring someone to be security for your stuff because transition is a beach next to the ocean kinda race.  I am doing it with a friend: I will wait for her on the swim, she will likely have to wait for me on the bike and run Laughing.  Should be fun

Great way to kill time on a flight.  Good luck with your tri this weekend.

I'm got a half marathon this weekend.  Kind of an "A" race given the entry was about $130 and after hotel in downtown Vancouver for two nights, food, drink, etc. I'll have dumped well over a grand into the weekend but it should be a lot of fun.  The race is sponsored by Lululemon so its kind of a big female yoga party which isn't really my thing but my wife has been super excited for months.

Curses!  I wish I wasn't working this weekend, I would have come and cheered you on!  Always fun to meet other BT'ers.  Hope you guys have a great time!

Not picking on you, but be careful what you wish for here. Core work won't burn many calories and it won't slim you down. I think core work is always valuable, but there comes a point where building core muscle will actually push the layer of fat out a little.

The point of this is that this challenge won't necessarily help you look better in that tri kit. It will help your performance, but the best way to fit in the suit better is weight loss.

Good pictures, and nice work!

I probably owe about 5 minutes to catch up from Saturday. I had a race in the afternoon and didn't quite get everything in. I do more than 10 almost every single day anyways, so I'll tag on a little extra tonight after my swim and run. Have to start dialing back my intensity this week for my favorite race this Sunday...hoping to hit the podium in my AG. There's an *outside* chance that I could take the overall masters title, but it would require me putting together a near perfect race based on what I know of the past results. It's a very very slim possibility, but something to try for, I guess.

Great race Mike.  Nice race report too.  It's nice to see some pictures.

My half marathon this weekend didn't go as well as planned but I have about a million excuses.  I normally don't do race reports for an HM but this was such a weird weekend I'll have to work on one to vent this out.   The race was more of a girl's night out thing than a running race.  I did get more core in right after the race in my hotel room and had a good trainer session followed by core on Sunday.

I really had no idea this was going to be me and 10,000 women celebrating the beauty of the inner female spirit.  I was like WTF all weekend long.  My race suffered because I drank too much beer the night before as I tried to process this all.

You are the sweetest of the sweets, Salty.  xo.

Thanks for the vote of confidence.  I definitely want a spot next year.

I'm at 90% right now on a fall marathon. Gotta get my running back to prekid speed.

Are you doing Boston again next year?

I hope you do a marathon! It's seriously such a good way to get your running back. You can half-azz a HM but marathon training WILL come back and bite you if you don't commit. Also, the amount of running it takes to get you to the start line of a marathon is really good for all of the other distances. I PRed everything from 5K-HM just by running lots.

Yes, I'll be doing Boston again this year. Last year left a bad taste in my mouth and that's not how I want to feel about a marathon THAT wonderful.

And PS if you are thinking about a fall marathon to qual for Boston, be sure to check the cut-off date!

So Salty's goin to Boston...hmmm. There's some incentive.

Registration opens Sept 22.  Looks like it will probably close in a couple of weeks.  Hmmm.  I had been thinking October 22, but I might need to bump up to a September one.  That doesn't give me much time, but I only need a 3:45 to qualify, that is if my age group doesn't fill with super speedies in the early days of registration. The fall race would just be to BQ, the winter would be the training that I hope would get me fast again, though training for an April marathon in Iowa's winter is one of the most demoralizing things I've ever done.

(Next breath)

I've been reading about some gnarly uphill treadmill work--brutally delicious!

Caught up and current. I need to vary up my routine a little bit more in the near future, but I will wait until *after* my race this Sunday to do so. I really want to do well in this one.
