He was tragically killed by a motorist while out on a training ride here in Amarillo, TX. He would have been wearing bib #2410. RIP Jeff. Please keep your thoughts and prayers with his wife and two kids. |

Veteran 231 Coeur d' Alene, ID | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I went for a swim to day in lake Coeur d' Alene. wore a wet suit, latex swim cap and ear plugs. It was cold at the start but after about 1/4 mile I did not feel cold. At the end of 1.15 miles I felt fine. My feet were a little cold but that was it. That is one less thing that I don't have to worry about. I will be swimming there on Friday if anyone wants to go, just let me know. |

Any idea of the actual water temperature? |

New user 10 Vancouver (not BC), Washington (not DC) | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread TriRSquared - 2012-06-11 6:25 AM Thank you for posting this. In 2010 I did the exact same thing. I didn't savor the moment. I didn't hear my name. In the finish chute I gave my sister a high 5 and didn't even know it was her. The finish line was unlike any other finish I have ever experienced. But this time I will savor it even more. I did CdA last year as my first IM and loved it. I have been lurking this year and just wanted to stop in to wish you all the best of luck. I also wanted to give a little advice. When I turned down Sherman avenue it was one the the best feelings of the day. It was just starting to get dark and the lights were like a landing strip leading you to the glowing finish at the end of the road (what is that about a 1/4 mile maybe?) The crowds were cheering us all on. I had a big gap between me and the racer in front and behind me so I was essentially racing alone. That pumps you up BIG time. So I started running faster. And faster, and faster. By the time I crossed the line I was almost at a full sprint. Don't do this (unless of course you are trying to PR or go for a Kona slot)! I got so caught up in the moment I almost missed my name being called and the "you are an Ironman" announcement. I did not see my wife and family in the crowds until after I had crossed the line. I did not get to make eye contact with the people cheering me on. I did not SAVOR the moment. Take time to enjoy it. After 14 hours of suffering an extra 1 min would not have made any difference to my time. But it would have made a HUGE difference to how I remember the event. I loved my experience there and had a great day and was a highlight of my tri career to date. But if I had to do it all over I would have taken more time to enjoy and soak in that last 1/4 mile. Good luck everyone. Have a great race! PS: Just typing this makes me get all gooey and excited on the inside. Jealous of you all. My next scheduled IM is in FL. Nowhere NEAR as pretty. |

I wanted to thank you for this reminder, too! The Ultra Runner who kindly bent her rental rules to allow us to rent her Hayden Lake home from Weds-Weds for IM (instead of the usual weekend to weekend we found elsewhere) sent me a note this week saying: "I wish you all the best of luck for race day...and that you take some time to enjoy what you are doing while you are out there wondering why you are doing it!" That's my wish for all of us. |

It's now on the event schedule. Registration is 1-5 and the race is at 5:30. I believe it's a 1 mile run. |

Extreme Veteran 475 Traverse City, MI | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Holy crap! It's here. I leave for CDA tomorrow morning. I am terrified that I am going to leave something important behind. Hopefully my tapering OCD and the 438 lists I made will help me prevent that. It's a 3-4 day drive and I will try to bring some of our warm weather with me to warm up the lake a little more. See you in a week! |

What a beautiful course! One thing that made it extra special was the relationships I made with BT people while training. A bunch of us met up for drinks and at the athlete dinner and a number of us are still in touch. Here's my race report, if any of you want to see how to make the best out of a tough day! Hahahahhaa

Expert 1535 Coeur D'alene, ID | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread anandiheart - 2012-06-13 5:05 AM Any restaurant recommendations? Too many to list! There are lots of good ones right downtown within a few minutes walk of race central. And if you don't mind driving for 10-15 minutes there are many more. If you have a smartphone get the Urbanspoon app and you can find them all. A few to think about are Tito's, Scratch, Lemongrass, Dockside, Seasons of CDA, Wine Cellar, Fire Artisan Pizza, and Grille from Impanema. These are some of the better ones right downtown. I especially recommend Fire Pizza, they're awesome! |

Member 109 Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread We're hitting Capones on Monday for lunch after the race. I saw they have 41 different beers on tap. It was on the Travel Channel. Is it good? I'm sure I won't care. Beer will make the pain go away (and a meatball sub and burger - is that too much?). We'll also hit Hudson Burgers sometime before the race. |

I know I'll probably be booed by the locals for this one but I was unimpressed by Hudsons. A decent burger but nothing amazing. I think the legend is bigger than the food. We ate at a place named "Moon Time". It was amazing... |
