Whew, so much to read!  First of all, good luck to all the racers this weekend!  I haven't gotten through everything to see who is racing yet but I know some are!

We stopped in Quebec City for two days on the way home from Mont Tremblant.  That's one hilly city!  I think I ate enough to get myself back close to winter weight....

I also found out that I will be travelling for work all next week.  Of all places, they are sending me to Montreal!  By the time I leave, I will have been in Quebec for almost 2.5 weeks straight.  Mon francais sera parfait!  Undecided

I'll try to get through everything this weekend, I saw lots of snippets of interesting discussions.

My word of the evening is "stoked"!

Just registered for IM Hawaii 70.3. I've decided to spend the remainder of May, after my licensing exams, in Kona! I'll finish up the last part of my IM build before taper and do the race. My coach gave me the go ahead to sign up (well he actually nudged me)! STOKED!!!

IM Cali 70.3, IM Hawaii 70.3, IM France!

"Stoked" is very appropriate lingo for CA and HI 70.3, not so sure how the French like that word

Good for you! Three awesome races, and you'll get to meet ChrisM in CA, and he is ... highly munchable.

Kona's having her puppies today....first one was stillborn, next 5 delivered quickly no issues, 7th came w/o sac and swallowed fluid, breeder took her to vet as she wants to sleep but has 3 more puppies to deliver so gave her a shot of Oxytocin and is working on pup #7.

Fred D - 2012-08-25 6:14 AM I am debating which races to do nxt year and some have chimed in on my TT thread about it. Would like to race May-June but would go as late as July. I am going to work on my limiters which are swimming and run frequency this year and am hoping this can pay off with a couple of decent HIMs. I would love to do an event in California, but travel costs will probably sway me away unfortunately. The new rev3 in Williamsburg sounds very interesting in June, but am really interested in a may HIM as well. I guess I sort of need a carrot for training over the winter lol.

How about Tremblant 70.3 ?

I'm in a similar situation.  My wife and I have talked about Vineman or Honu as a race/vacation combo for next year.  Tremblant 70.3 also intrigues me but that has less of a vacation combo to it.

Having a CRISIS OF CONFIDENCE.

Rode 100km today and was planning this as my last long ride - and completely fell apart.  Goal was to ride at about HIM wattage, but this was a struggle and I was a couple of watts low, but struggling to hold it.  In the last 10-15km it all went south, and over the last 5km I was averaging around 150 watts.  I was done, and just soft pedaling to try and make it home.

The last 4 weeks have not been good for riding.  I've only been averaging 2 rides a week - life has just gotten in the way a bit, and I was a bit worried that some fitness had fallen off.  But I didn't expect the meltdown I had today.

Couple of other factors that may have contributed.  Walked a 5hour round of golf yesterday in the heat, so that may have impacted the legs a bit.  Also screwed up nutrition badly because I forgot to buy gels.  Took just 1 gel, 1 banana, and 1 granola bar during 3.5 hours + 2 bottles of water and 1 bottle of watered down gatorade (ran out of powder).

I'm not going to be able to forget about this ride, so I need some suggestions on how I can regain the confidence I had just 4 weeks ago.  I've only got 2 weeks left before the HIM, and am now really concerned about what I can actually manage on the bike.  I figure the last week is only for taper, which seems to only leave this week.

After this ride I really am wondering if I've kind of blown my last few months of training with how my riding has fallen off, culminating in the ride today. [/whining]

We all have bad rides now and then. If you can believe this, let it go.

If you can't, do the ride again this week or next weekend. If you can't find the hours, ride shorter with a little more intensity.

Yeah, you've got to try to just let it go.  Look at everything that was stacked up against you and you still held your power for most of the ride.  Walking a golf course in the heat can really sap you - more than you would think.  You were likely dehydrated to begin the ride and then didn't have your proper nutrition to boot.  I say you did well with what you were dealing with!

Any chance of repeating the ride in a few days once you get yourself back to normal?

LOL. Yeah, we've done brophy a couple times, but its so crowded on a Saturday and the last thing I want to do is wait for an hour after a near half ironman. Good news though, beat my buddy in a head to head, prize was mac's fish and chips on state. Plus I PRd the course by four minutes and got 4th in clydes with my first SB long course tile. Very happy with the whole day. ETA, the three guys that beat me were 30, 34 and 30. I am 45. So that feels good

Random thoughts from IMMT.

My wife's PT (and mine in the past as well) raced IMMT last weekend in the W45-49 age group and I knew she was hoping for a Kona slot.  She ended up 5th in her AG that had 2 slots - one of the slots rolled down to 3rd place.

Looking at the results, she was 2 mins 16 seconds behind 3rd place but she spent over 3 mins longer in transitions.  She also wasn't wearing an aero helmet and I cringed when I saw the tires on her race wheels.  They weren't Gatorskins but I imagine they were pretty low down on the Crr chart.

Also of note, 4th place missed out by 6 seconds!

I'm thinking if one were ever going to try to qualify for Kona you had better make sure you have all the little details covered because you will probably need it!
