Masters workouts can be challenging but are great when you can do them.Swim success this morning! I had a generally awesome swim, starting with getting plopped down right in the middle of the Masters class lane three, despite not being a member of the group. The coach saw me coming out of the locker room near the beginning of the class and told me to get in a specific lane that was empty (Spring Break=empty Masters class lanes apparently!), instead of having to go to the shallow end of the pool. Anyway, I had already decided that today was going to be my very first speed workout in the pool. And this is the story of how I died a little in the pool. No, in all seriousness it was the best workout I've had in the pool in a long time. After warmup I did sets of 50 as fast as I could without breaking form, followed by rest, and then a 100 'recovery' set at normal pace. It was great! I really feel like I had a hard workout. I don't know if anyone else has this issue, but when I was doing the recovery 100s it seemed harder to keep form than when I was doing the fast sets. Hoping the sun comes out and warms the joint up today. I'm scheduled for a bike session this afternoon and I'd really, really like to be able to do it outside. |

Tomorrow is a rest day and then Saturday is the trail half mary. After that, I declare it officially triathlon season! I'm totally jealous about hanging at the Big East tourney (well, not the Big East part, but I'd love to be at the Big 10 tourney right now - a couple years ago we went to the Final Four and it was awesome!). And they do make hotdogs w/o meat...but probably not at the ballpark. And they probably don't taste good anyway. |

Expert 1023 , | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED Michael, best wishes to you and your family. Nice swimming today, Gretchen! Hope you got to get outside for a ride. I thought i might ride outside this morning, but when I got up it was 28 with 20mph gusts and snow flurries. I did manage a 1 hour trainer ride, which may be the longest I've ever spent on the trainer. |

Instead of warming up to the mid 50s it snowed...ugh. Only a little, but enough to keep me off the roads. I had to go back to the gym for a session on the spin bike, but got it done. Hope everyone has a good evening! |

CLOSED cathyd - 2013-03-11 11:04 PM It was weird pain, it was the entire knee, front back and sides and down the lower leg, really achey, not sharp. After a day off I rode with no pain the next day. Then on sunday I rode 35 minutes and some discomfort, again involvimg the whole knee at about the 20 minute mark but only lasted a few minutes then was gone. I am nervous to run because of it, although i've only had this happen on the bike so far. The past few years I've been sidelined by injury a lot so it makes me nervous when anything hurts. Hope your knee/leg is feeling better ! |

I have been holding an average 8:41-8:50 for a week now. Not complaining at all, in fact I am just sitting here scratching my head trying to sort out how my body has gotten the hang of speed after all this time. Now to hold on for another monght so I can kick some butt at the 10K (even in my costume) Sweet ! |

CLOSED Experior - 2013-03-13 7:34 PM Friends, I waited for a few days after illness/lawyers/general trouble before posting this, but I think that, realistically, I have to say that while I'm not completely bowing out, you should assume that I'm mostly gone. I just do not have time to come here, and frankly I feel really awful that some are diligently looking in on me (but thanks!) while I barely have time even to notice. I will not say that I am gone for good, but I just cannot justify spending more than a tiny amount of time here with so much else going on that -- despite the awesomeness that I find in the good mentor groups on BT -- is more pressing. I hope to look in sometimes, and I will certainly continue to train (if you are ever in my area, please feel free to get in touch for some training -- my contact info is just a click or two away from my profile) but I will not be checking in regularly, at least for the foreseeable future. I wish you all the best, in training, tri, and life. --Michael Michael, Best wishes and prayers to you and your family ! Hope to see you back on BT in the near future ! |

I will miss the weigh in tomorrow morning and spending all week with alumni at the Big East tournament won't be kind to my numbers. I'm getting some good running in during the mornings in central park, and some downtime in my hotel room to stretch. I sure miss my wife and kid though :/ NYC and college basketball ? Sounds like a blast ! |

Member 108 | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED So had my bike fitting done a few days ago on some futuristic contraption (GURU) yesterday. It was a bit more detailed then my road bike fitting a few months back and my first time in aero position =) What was pretty neat was the fella doing the fitting was on the US cycling team the past two Olympics while the store manager is a professional duathlete. New location of a small group of LBS's I was referred to and close to where I live...could be dangerous =) I'm still waiting for a few shipments to come in so have not pulled the trigger on a new tri bike yet. I've narrowed my decision to a few choices and with the best fit being the priority. Lovely day off tomorrow so planning on an open water session which might turn into a brick session and then a group bike ride planned for Saturday morning. My diet went well this week....cut back on sweets, bad carbs and vino...not too hard to do once I get consistent and knowing I have 2 cheat meals coming up this weekend =) |

We have a couple stores that are higher end bike shops here. Really nice to look at bikes that cost half as much as a car. |

I just found out the Masters coach at the Y on Wednesdays is an IM champ. Dang. I know that doesn't make you a good coach (which she is), but it is mighty darn impressive. She at least listened to my rationale for why I don't do it and agreed for my puproses it really isn't a good stroke to do a lot of. |

Member 108 | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED Good morning everyone, I'm usually in the pool at this time but meeting a friend at the lake which opens in a few hours. Feels good to be back on track losing 2 pounds this week =) .... I'm still a few pounds away from what was my stable weight last year and about 9 pounds from my low. It seems like I lost most of my weight last year when I was doing crossfit and marathon training and actually gained back some when I started tri training..though I do feel more hungry thus eating more then I should. Like the pro football player who lost like 20 pounds during the off-season by doing the Patron diet (not drinking tequila)...I can probably lose 100 pounds just by abstaining from wine, lol...but that is one reason I train and wine is good for you =) Btw, my swim teacher who customized my swim focused oly training plan for me is doing IM Los Cabos this Sunday, her 3rd IM..looking forward to tracking her... Have a great weekend everyone ! Richard

Expert 1067 Douglaston, NY | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED It has been a challenging week and I went up to 276 for a variety of reasons. The good news is that I think I am in the final thralls of the illness that had my wife and son for weeks - and they are both better as well so that makes things easier. No more morning treatments will allow me to head to the gym again. I also owe a shout out to my MyFitnessPal peeps for their recent support. I actually have been writing down my food for the past week and should have it in tonight. It won't be pretty but was an eye opening experience to see how many calories that I've been taking in a on regular basis. I hope everyone has a great weekend! |

Expert 829 | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED I'm down 1.5 pounds this week which I'm very happy with. I've been feeling well and my appetite is back, yet I managed to stick with pretty solid eating. I don't have anything in particular on the calendar for this weekend, but it looks like the weather will be stellar so I'm going to get out and about both days doing some running at least (took yesterday as my off day, will run all three this weekend).

I hit the pool for another successful swim session this morning. Now I just have to wrestle with Photoshop all morning to finish the figures for my article and then I can play all afternoon!! It is supposed to be 70 here this afternoon, so if they didn't screw up the forecast like they did yesterday (forecast low 50s and clear; actual low 30s and snow), I'm going to head out to the local lake with the dogs and do a short trail run--my first. |
