shiggy - 2008-06-27 9:40 AM So I was out running today, and there was this area with construction vehicles, rough road, traffic, etc. not a nice little area to squeeze through. So I proceeded to run very close to the parked constrution vehicles in order to avoid the traffic, and all of a sudden I was hit with a opening truck door! The man inside was getting out just as I happened to be running by! Well luckily all it did was bang and cut up my arm a little bit. This was a new one for me though, never thought to worry about that!

I'm glad you're okay. Ironically enough, that's a paranoia of mine, so whenever I am running or riding and pass parked cars, I always try to determine before I reach it whether or not someone's inside. If I can't tell, I move over...when there's room. That had to hurt, though. Was the guy apologetic?

Nope, he didn't say anything, maybe he was as shocked as I was! I tend to learn things the hard way. And sometimes I have to learn things the hard way more than once before it sinks in!

You are wise to watch out for that, makes perfect sense to me!

ps. That's a new expression for me "getting doored" that is really funny! (the expression that is, not the actual act of doing so)

Wow!  Glad you are ok!  Sounds like the woman who ran over my shoes at that race.  I think people are reluctant to apologise so they don't appear to be at fault.  I'll be watching those doors while I'm running now, too!

I'll be tackling another hella hill tomorrow with the girls!  There is a race up this hill every January 1.  It is 4 miles long.  Not sure of the elevation change yet.  The fastest time, ever, is around 28 minutes by a world class cyclist.  One of the girls has climbed it once before in 90 minutes!  Should be a grand Saturday morning!  I hope everyone else has a great time this weekend!  Cheers!

Didn't do the steep a$$ hill today.  To smokey.  The air is yucky.  I went for a shorter ride instead and still had a hard time.

Oh man! Stay safe out there! Good idea not to ride the hill.

Hey everyone! I'm sorry I've been so absent lately.  Seems I've missed all kinds of crazy things...people racing, people getting doored...Things at work and home have been crazy.  I hope to be back-in-the-saddle again finally.

I do have to run out now because my wife has an appointment so I have to watch the Monsters but I will be back this afternoon.

Maybe something other than running also aggrevates it? Did you do anything different recently?

Lately I've been adding ginger to everything, it is a natural anti-inflammatory (so is salmon) and maybe it's just in my head but I feel like this has been helping and it has kept me away from the ibuprofen bottle for a while now.

I eat salmon about twice a week!  My husband and his Dad go ocean fishing all the time.  Crappy season this year, though.

My remodling this weekend involved climbing up and down on a step stool (2 steps)  all day while painting stripes on my bathroom wall.  (The prep work took forever!)  I didn't lift anything heavy.  I guess stepping up and down could have aggravated the shins.

That step-stool has got to be the culprit.  It tightened your calves-up and you didn't stretch because labor isn't working out in your mind.  Your muscles would beg to differ.

Registration for the FL 70.3 starts soon.  I thought it was going to be today but the website has no info. Anyone signing-up?  Boston, I remember you were interested in it?

Did you walk a lot? Fast walking hurts my shins...

Different kind of shoes?

I think we are doing basically totally nothing - just chilling.  i'll make the food, but we'll probably just lay outside and relax....with all the running around i've been doing lately it will be a welcome change!!!  i'll probably make spinach and feta turkey burgers again.

and we'll probably go for a bike ride.

I'll be doing a 5 mile race!  I'm shooting for just under 40 minutes!  Wow!  That's a goal!  Wish me luck!  (It's at 3000 feet of elevation so this sea level girl will be hurting pretty bad!)

Then we are just going to hang out and relax.  Should be a nice weekend.....starting tomorrow!

The 4th is a rest day for me! Yay for tapers .

I'll be doing what I've done every 4th for the past 28 years. The parade in the morning with my parents, cousins, aunts, uncles, cousins' kids and spouses, etc. Then, a bbq at my parents' house, which gets started at like 10 a.m., because that's when we get home from the parade. And, even though it's so early, everyone is ready for lunch. After a few hours of hanging out in the backyard and pool, everyone will get bored, so we'll head inside and watch Wimbledon (and prob Olympic Trials this year) and eventually a movie. Then, it's back outside for more pool time and bbq before we head to the fireworks. Haha. Oddly enough, the only holiday tradition my family really has is for the Fourth of July .

At least this year, I won't have to get up at 4 a.m. to train before the parade .

Last year, we missed the parade for the FIRST TIME EVER! It was raining in the morning, so my dad drove down to see if they were still having it. He came back to say there was no sign of a parade, so all the relatives were called. The next day, we read an article in the paper about the parade .

I missed the parade one year in college because I had to work.
