My plan shows 15 hours for this week.  Something tells me I'm going to (find a way to) fall a bit short of plan!  Wink

Thanks J for the survey!! I am very much enjoying following the posts. If any of you are so inclined to share similar; I have done several full marathons in the past, numerous short distance tris and one half (in 2005). I was living in the Netherlands in 2006-2007 and was bike focused during that time with no swimming and little running. I went to the (IMFL) race as a spectator last year watching a friend compete and was so inspired (or nuts!) to enter for this year. I completed the Gulf Coast half in May- 7:05, that includes a frustrating half hour mechanical problem. This is my first (and probably only) full IM. I am out to race smart, finish, and will be happy with whatever the course and my body will give me on 07 Nov. By the way, its beautiful here in Panama City Today! why I should be excited about the race number..., don't get it??

Anyone else going to use MyAthleteGPS during the race? When my wife heard about it she demanded that I get one. Hopefully it will be helpful for the family to be able to watch my race without sitting there waiting too long. Does anyone have past experience with it?

I don't have any prior experience with it, but I also rented one for IMFL.  I am hoping it works well so the family can track me and know about when I will be finishing on the bike, so they don't miss me.

I used one of these at IMKY, and found the product was OK.  I was actually signed up to do a beta test for the Trakkers GPS product, but they decided to pull out of IMKY, so I ended up using MyAthlete.  From what I have been able to determine, the Trakkers product is better in terms of the user interface and available data.  That said, MyAthlete's product will do an OK job telling your wife (and others) where you are at at any given time during the event.  I'm not certain if MyAthlete has all the bugs worked out from a back-end technology perspective, as during IMKY their website went down for at least half an hour - tricking my wife and friends into thinking I had stopped mid-bike for 30 minutes.

Does anyone know if IMFL will have text updates available?  I checked the Athlete's Guide, but didn't see anything.

jjcnbg - 2009-10-19 8:10 AM Happy Manic Monday all,What is everyone else's travel plans?

Leaving Thursday 10/30 from Central PA to drive to Indiana to pick up my parents. Arrive in Panama City on Sunday 11/1.  Wife and daughter fly down Thursday 11/5. Race Sat. Wife and daughter fly home Sunday. Monday, begin drive back to Central Pa arriving on Tuesday 11/10.  Mom and Dad helping me make the drive home since I may not feel up to it.  They drive home on Wednesday. So, I'll be covering alot of miles, but having my parents and family at the race is what counts.  Getting custom made T-shirts for them to wear as my support crew.  I'll be bringing as much gear as I can pack in the van.  Travel safe everyone.  Better to get there in one piece than not at all.

14.5 hours this week.  Still hungry all of the time, but I am beyond excited that I made it through the peak weeks, which just a year ago seemed impossible.

Amen! I have about the same on tap. But it is nicely spread out minus a 16 mile run on Wed night and that will be interesting for sure.  I never thought I'd feel this confident on the distances.  I am looking forward to being in race land with all of you soon!!

I swam at Clearwater beach in Tampa today...very wavy after the cold front that just went through. Made it hard to look for sharks. : ) Just kidding! My totals for this week's schedule are 9:30 biking, 32 miles running, and 11,200 m swimming...better, but still a lot. More taper next week! Except the 14,000 m swimming next week...my coach seems to think I can't swim well enough yet. He's right!!!

I will not be using one.  I have had friends use them and they work well on the bike but even my fastest friends while on the run it read speed zero and did not track them well at all.  If my mom saw my speed zero on the course she would have a heart attack and a stroke thinking I was dead on the side of the road.  Until the technology improves a little I won't use it

I have never heard of that problem with them. Our group had 7 of them for IMKY and the only issue was the entire system crashing.  When the system was up you could tell when someone was walking at 1mph.  We (my wife & Family) love the gps units.

Thanks for all the responses on the GPS unit.  I will keep my fingers crossed and hope for no system crash.  I will be interested to try the trakkers unit once it's available.  It seems like it has been in development for quite awhile now.  The biggest requirement for me is that my family be able to generally locate where I am at.  If it does not give accurate speed readings I will be fine with that for this race.

- Today we will be hitting 17 Days and change.
- Current 15 day forecast shows for Nov 3rd (High 74/ Low 60
- Current buoy reading at PCB is a water temp of 72.5 degrees

Happy Taper Tuesday.

Yes, i am taking off on Monday the day before I leave for FL. It will give me time to shop for food to bring down, back the car, check, double check, and triple check that everything was packed before i leave on Tuesday.

And if you by chance do forget something, PCB has stores and an expo   Chances are, we'll all be bumping into each other at the Walmart!!
