Good morning everyone!  Hope you're all out busy training..hehehehe.   1 month today till I fly to Scotland! WOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Also I weighed myself this morning and I've LOST 6lbs!!!!!!  I felt my clothes a little loser so decided on a whim to weigh myself...I don't normally like to do so, but I've been working hard and it's paid off

Run today outside. It's about 50ish here. Lovely and mild.

Congrats!  Picture worthy?

Congrats on the weight loss, the swimming and the runs everybody.  You rock.

I did a swim today and then a bike, 70 min. mix of VO2, high cadence and SEs, the low rpm, high power kind.

discipleguideservice - 2011-01-24 8:32 PM A sad day for athletes around the world yesterday.  I don't have a lot of modern day heros, but I have to say the Jack LaLanne will go down in my book as the most powerful and influential swimmer of all time.  He was truely an American Icon, and the fitness world is worse off without him.

I agree with you completely. Jack Lalanne has left an awesome legacy of what the human body can accomplish.

Jack was an inspiration for me since I was a teen.  I joined his gym in Los Angeles when I was a scrawny 17 year old.  Because of his training philosophy, I got muscular and healthy.  I truly appreciate his contribution to the world.  What a legacy he leaves behind.

robingray_260 - 2011-01-25 4:40 PM Great job on the weight losses!!!! I would be right there with you all if it wasn't for the weekends!

Awesome work on the 3 mile run!

Today, workout was on the trainer. Went my longest ride on the trainer to date at 1:15. Tomorrow is ski day - yeah!

That's a long time on the trainer, awesome!  Have fun skiing, I'll just think of you and be jealous!!

amd723 - 2011-01-25 5:57 PM Congrats to everyone on their successes!  I've decided to do an April sprint tri - have it narrowed down to 2, so pretty soon I'm going to have to get on the bike and stop just living vicariously through everyone's trainer/bike timeLaughing

Nautica South Beach!!

That one is tempting too, but we are looking at either Ron Jon in Cocoa Beach or FAU in Boca.

infu5229 - 2011-01-25 3:48 PM  Thank you for the advice on the bikes.  There is an option of having the factory assemble the bikes before shipping.  Would it be very difficult putting all the pieces together?

The assembly is fairly easy, install wheels, pedals, handlebar ad seat. After I assembled mine took to LBS and they charged me 50 bucks to do a overall inspections and adjustments.

It can be that easy.  A couple years ago, we ordered two bikes direct from Javelin (they had a closeout deal).  The more expensive Fara was as you said, wheels, pedals, handlebar, and seatpost.  The cheaper Parma required more assembly (installing brakes and a few other things as well as the stuff mentioned above).

Overslept my FARTLEK this morning but ran a mile and a half on my own. Lots of coughing but maybe that's the only way I'm going to get the stuff OUT of my lungs! It felt pretty good.

Question - swimming is next and this is my coaches directive.

7X300 as1/3/5/7 pull breath each 5
2 as 2X150 hard on 3'00
4 as 3X100 hard on 2'00
6 as 6X50 hard on 1'00

WHAT?!? I'm thinking I should have actually TAKEN college algebra instead of CLEPing out. Oy. I have a 25 yard pool.

Maybe English would be good...I'm not sure how to interpret this either.  You might need to get clarification from the coach.

The "on X'00" means you start another interval X'00 after the previous one started.  So if you're swimming 100's, you start every 2 minutes and get whatever rest.  Not sure what the 1/3/5/7 means in the first interval.

Good afternoon!  Training question for you all!  I'm doing all my bike/run workouts together.  Bike first, then run.  Is there any detriment to doing my training this way?  I really don't want to split the workouts before and after school--afternoons are reserved for my daughters' activities.  I have no problem getting up as early as I need to in order to fit in both (my commute is all of 45 seconds).  I'm just wondering if I'm asking for burnout always doing one right after the other for the next 20 weeks (the first three weeks have been great!Laughing)  Any input?

maybe I can translate.  The overall swim is 7x 300 yds (12 lengths or 6 laps = 300yds) with every other one being a pull while breathing every 5th stroke. which is what the 1/3/5/7 means

the 2nd set of 300 yrds is broken into 2 x 150 (6 lenghts) yds in 3 minutes. if you finish the first 150 yds in 2 minutes then you get a minute to rest before you do your second 150 yds. you leave every three minutes so the faster you swim the longer you rest but you will definately need it.

the 4th set is swimming 100 yds 3 times leaving every 2 minutes and the 6th set is swimming 50 yds 6 times.

Does this make any sense?

I always try to do my brick workout together if possible... that is why they are called "brick".  Life limits it sometimes, so occationally they have to be split up, but you do them together during the race, may as well do them together during the traing too.  I don't believe it will make you burn out any soon either way.

YIKES AND AWAY!  That is the most complicated swim I have ever seen.  I think I would have to write it all down in detail, put it in a ziplock, and staple it to the end of the pool, otherwise I would loose count after the first three laps... I am having a serious pitty dance for you right now.

Agreed.  I often write my swim workouts down on paper and then place them in a ziploc especially if they have complicated sets. I usually use the same ziploc, so when I don't know what I feel like swimming I can pull out an old one.  works great! Don't know how you would staple it to the end of the pool though Wink

The biggest concern is that all of your runs come after a ride, so there's a fatigue factor that will limit your performance, particularly if you're trying to do intervals or a tempo workout and work on run speed.  Otherwise, you've saved a shower per day and are getting in good experience for race day.

Got a spin class in and a slow doggy run.   I bought some new cycling shorts today too.   Have been needing to replace the ones I have for a while. I wore them to the spin class today and when I was done and getting off the bike I noticed just how many holes there were in them. Good grief. lol   These ones are going to be SO much more comfortable...can't wait to try them out on Saturday.
