kt65 - 2011-01-07 5:28 PM Yes, Andre, that works for me too...sometimes, I figure, I can do anything for 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, etc.  That's why I think occasionally racing is really great for our psyche...whether it's a 5k to a marathon, it reminds us we can do x effort for however long, so intervals of less should be easy peasy!

On an unrelated topic...just made reservations for Disneyland for 3 days for Valentines.  I hope this earns me some IM points...lord knows, I need more IM points...

Ah to bad. we're going on the 20th. Missed a hookup.

Oh boy, good thing there are no craps tables in Disneyland.  We will be there the 20th to the 23rd!  Psyched to hook up with you guys and meet the little princesses!

just don't try to put either of those princesses in a car seat.

SoccerGK - 2011-01-08 1:25 PM So after all this mental toughness stuff, I decided I was going to get in my long run this morning come hell or high water.  Every time I drop a running workout, I feel so guilty about it!  So, even though I'm sick as a dog (me, Ryan, and Nadie are all sick...yay), and even though I feel super sore from the sickness, I figured I could get it done.

Wrong.

I felt really good the first 4.5 miles and thought I'd be fine, and then, the soreness hit me like a ton of bricks.  My legs could barely move anymore.  I struggled so badly the last 4 miles.  I never walk anymore, and I had to walk twice today.  And I started feeling sick to my stomach.  I haven't loaded my Garmin info yet, but I'm pretty sure I was at like 13 min/mile pace because I was dragging badly.  Now, I'm so sore, I can barely move.

So, moral of the story, there is a thin line between mental toughness and flat out stupidity.  Today, I crossed that line!  If I run tomorrow (only if I'm feeling better), I will only go for a few miles.

If your sick then don't workout tomorrow.  If your not and you just over did it your body might like a swim much more than a run tomorrow.  You'll get a workout in and give your legs a rest.  They will thank you.

I know, but because of my current schedule, I'm only able to get in 2 runs/week, on the weekends.  It makes it really hard to decide to drop one when I only get a couple.  Ugh.  Maybe Monday, I'll check to see if our gym is open at school so I can workout on the treadmill next week, too.

All 3 of us have been sleeping off our sicknesses all afternoon.  We are QUITE the trio!

I was lucky today to get two workouts in.  I did Jorge Prep week 1 day 3, then after a short break to replenish some fluids I did a 20min recovery run.  Well I think I was at recovery pace.  My Garmin died after bike session, forgot to recharge last night, so I had to use RPE.  I almost didn't do the run as I contemplated waiting until watch was a little recharged but figured if I wait I won't go so out the door I went and very glad I did.  I usualy depend on my HRM and GPS to keep me inline, so it was good for me to gage my effort without those tools.

Did I miss something here?  I don't get it...  I can't tell the tone of the post.  I never said I wanted to be a Boras or Rosenhaus.  I actually wouldn't mind helping recent college grads who just couldn't get drafted.  There are multiple levels in the industry.

you like soccer and take classes from bud selig.    why do you hate america?

you've been here for two weeks and haven't figured us all out yet.   pffffft.    the tone is sarcasm (but its cool to see the boras and rosenhaus smack talk)  it shows up around here every now and again.  wait....except for that soccer part, wtf is the matter with you!!!!!

Haha, okay!  I kinda figured it was sarcasm, but I'm still new, so give me a break!  I still think soccer is the toughest sport around though... Cool  I might be biased though.

And the Quack, Quack is just a reference to the Ducks going after the Mighty Auburn War Eagles!!!!  Pac 10 girl all the way.  Maybe a dreamer, but still hoping the Ducks bring it.  Barry, where are you???

sdalessio - 2011-01-08 9:45 AM Hi gang - we both survived the first day of the goofy challenge.  We went a little slower than we planned but Tony was being careful w/ his knee and our plan paid off as we finished in good shape.  The hardest part was the 2:50AM wake up call.  UGH!

Fun race though.  There were Disney characters at every mile marker, we ran down Main Street and through Cinderella's castle.  Off the pool now w/ the kids!

Up tomorrow same bat time, same bat place but 26m instead of 13m.  :-)

Sound like fun glad you did well enjoy your 26m

badgerintx - 2011-01-08 12:50 PM Ok....Kelly and Bryce... thanks for the jinx with all the "Mental Toughness" talk this week.  I haven't really struggled through a workout for several weeks.  BUT..................................
This morinings workout SUCKED, on several levels, and I have decided it is due to all the Mental toughness MOJO discussions going around the group this week!!!  Hey....gotta blame somebody!!!

So because of you guys, now I gotta brick again tomorrow to make up for the fact that I sucked today.  Laughing

Your Welcome...now you have something to reflect on during a race when things are going easy.   Hope tomorrow is a better day.

Sam- Awesome!

Your welcome anything elase we can do for you. hahaha

Today start out early got up at 4:30am got some coffee and gas then drove an hour to La Junta, Co to do a 1,600m swim went ahead and swam an extra 50m also got my new wetsuit and was able to try it out then drove home got a bowl of cereal then went and rode 44.60miles of a 40mile ride. Got home showered trying to warm up my frozen feet then off to the community bldg to watch my son wrestle.

today was a scheduled long run but with the weather that is suppose to be here tomorrow I switched the  run and bike. my thinking is that it is easy to run in the snow than ride in it

WOW!

Sorry about the DP, but man, if anyone deserves it, it's Lynch!!

Sooooo behind watching the game (love Tivo) cuz I had to take the kids to ski lessons today. Worth the wait, though -- good times!!!

Right now there's a trail run going on behind my house. Steve or Ryan, are you running in it?? This run is always the first day of ski lessons and starts before I get home (it's an afternoon/evening/night gig). Some year I'm gonna run it, though!! Tonight we're blasting music to the runners, and the kids and I are stepping out on the deck to cheer 'em on when we see the headlamps appear. Good times.

Was scheduled for a spin today on the trainer but once again it didnt work out with the baby's schedule.  This is killing me.  We have a small house so I can only put my trainer in the living room and only when the baby is napping.

Well put in my 8km run today and did it in the snow and cold used that Mcmillan running calculator everyone was talking about here and My run was about 1 min off (faster) and probably only because I did a tiny bit of speed work towards the end to freshen up the run or change it up and keep me going a bit.

Running a bit faster from one phone pole to another..

First run over 5k in a month..  The sun was shining there was a fresh coat of snow. Except for the 13 degrees F temp with wind chill it was great to get some distance in for me.

Looks like my deal is all but cash exhanged finalized for a 2010 Cervelo P1 that is practially brand new so I am excited.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. I hope to get in a 45 -60 min spin with my friend tomorrow if she is free...

If not it is a virtual spin with some friends in Florida Via Skype
