Just a note, if the cool weather sticks around it is very possible the wind won't be out of the Southeast on raceday. With cold fronts the wind generally comes from the N-NW/NE. Not a big deal but something to think about if you are thinking bike strategy. So wouldn't that mean headwind at the start, and tailwind at the end? PERFECT. I want to get the headwind over with the first 56 miles, not the last 56 miles! |

However, everyone knows the winds down here could go just about anything. alove - 2012-05-08 12:32 PM81 in the lake today? Nice. The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread It's WAY too soon to start checking the weather. This is Houston after all. It changes every hour! Had a nice five miler on the run course today. Ran by the big moving trucks that came yesterday. They are filled with water and Perform for the aide stations. Exciting!! They also have up the big digital sign that warn ppl of traffic delays. There's something cool about seeing them before a race. I even get excited when they put them out at CB&I. I have to say it's getting exciting! The town is starting to buzz, athletes are frequently running the route and cycling in town. 11 days!!! |

Thinking of shooting up to Dallas Wednesday night to catch the Rangers game. It says 3 and a half hours, so just wondering is that realistic with traffic or is there construction along the way? Looking at a map it looks pretty desolate from north of Conroe til close to Dallas area. |

Not a Rangers fan at all (actually a die-hard Dodgers fan) but love baseball. I am trying to get to all the Major League Parks but they keep building new ones faster than I can keep up. Arlington will be my 34th different stadium and I have tickets for the Astros on Sunday to make #35. |

Pleas take detailed notes and pass them along so I know what to expect as I drive up right after the race. Buckees? Sounds like a good place to stop and stretch the legs. Miss those big truck stops, always reminds me of road trips as a kid. |

Extreme Veteran 463 Houston/Richmond area | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread I strained my back at work on Friday and was told not to exert myself for a few days. Did a short swim (4x500) today with no twinges and am hoping to get a short(ish) ride in tomorrow to test it out on the bike. Not a good time for this to happen, so I will have to readjust my goals and pacing on race day. New goal; FINISH |

Is Buckees a chain? Gonna try to cram as much sight seeing into Wednesday as possible. I think I land at 10:30am. Try to get bike from Tribike, register, get crap to hotel, short workout, then shoot up to Dallas. Would like to squeeze in the JFK museum, go to Hard Rock Cafe (glass collector) and then to the Rangers game before driving back to Conroe late night. A nice relaxing first day in Texas |

And with Ironman it's even worse... you get there, do all these check-in's.... I just want to get there and get it done! |

Extreme Veteran 492 Frisco | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread Definitely like todays version of next weekends forecast ... 87, sunny and winds SSW 4-12 ... we should be so lucky as to actually have those conditions on race day! Taper is killing me (but sleeping in has been AWESOME). Bike is in the shop so I wont be able to ride till tomorrow when I get her back. Not running right now as I am trying to let a mild case of shin splints in my right leg heal up as much as possible, so I am doing right now is swimming. I am doing my last longish OWS this evening after work, probably an hour or so steady in the water. Anyone have any secret home remedies for shin splints? I have been icing it every day, a couple fo times a day, massaging it in between icing sessions. Bought some compression sleeves, and was researching online at some of the more sturdy wraps like the McDavid one, but it doesnt look very comfortable to run in. I am just hoping with rest and treatment that on race day i will be able to run semi effectively. |

Good news is that all of the congestion is out of my chest and just in my head now. Extra rest for me these next few days to fully recover. |

51 | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread I've dealt with chronic shin splints over the years, the only way to get rid of them is don't run for 2 weeks. Not sure why, but 2 weeks is the magic number. Considering that this race is on a hard concrete course with several turns, I wouldn't run until the race if I were you. The concrete is going to pound the hell out of your shins on raceday. |

Packing up most of my gear and dropping it off tomorrow for tri bike transport pick up. Moved some stuff around and did 2.5 hours today, I can do the shorter stuff on my mtb. |

It won't hurt and probably will help. look at these http://www.djortho.com/products/procare/calf-sleeve better made than McDavids stuff. I'm not fan of the compression wear for shin splints. The neoprene sleeve will work better. I find the neoprene sleeve 100 more comfy than compression sleeves personally for an N of 1. |
