Handing whom I assumed was your father, your finishing medal was about the classiest thing I have ever seen!!!  It made me cry.  Thanks for sharing!!

Thanks Kristine!

Yes, that was my Dad.  Him and my step-mom came out from California to cheer me on.  It was a great day!!   Good luck and enjoy the race!

We'll also hit Hudson Burgers sometime before the race.

I know I'll probably be booed by the locals for this one but I was unimpressed by Hudsons.  A decent burger but nothing amazing.  I think the legend is bigger than the food.

We ate at a place named "Moon Time".  It was amazing...

Yeah, Hudson's is one of those iconic places that's fun to go to once in awhile but the burgers, while good, aren't outstanding IMHO.  Moon Time is a great pub and so is Capones.  Can't go wrong at either one.

I had a pizza at "Fire" the other day on a recommendation.  I'm a pizza snob and this was worth the visit and I'd go again.  Good IPA on tap, too! Good luck getting in there on race night...it's right there where I'm guessing the finishing chute will begin on Sherman Ave.

Time to jump back in that balmy lake water....Surprised

anandiheart - 2012-06-13 5:05 AM Any restaurant recommendations?

Too many to list!  There are lots of good ones right downtown within a few minutes walk of race central.  And if you don't mind driving for 10-15 minutes there are many more.  If you have a smartphone get the Urbanspoon app and you can find them all.  A few to think about are Tito's, Scratch, Lemongrass, Dockside, Seasons of CDA, Wine Cellar, Fire Artisan Pizza, and Grille from Impanema.  These are some of the better ones right downtown.  I especially recommend Fire Pizza, they're awesome!

maybe just tell  us where to stay away from

Good luck to all those 2012 IM CdA racers!  I as well did CdA in 2011. Had a great day. Took care of myself and my bike and didnt do anything stupid out there and it worked out. I did have some stomach issues on the run but walked it off which gave me extra energy for the last 4 miles to the finish. 14hrs 9 minutes. Didnt matter. Finish in 16:59 and your the same Ironman.

Remember to enjoy the finish. Give the racer in front of you room. Its your finishing chute for only a short time. Give high-5s. Pump your fist. Cry a little. Listen for your name to be called.

And then you get to brag for the rest of your life that your an Ironman.

Best of luck out there......!!!!!!!!!!

Two recommendations for food, GW Hunters, especially before 3pm so you can get breakfast.  They have all kinds of game, elk, bufallo, etc, I think they have great biscuits and gravy, especially with elk.

If you like garlic, don't pass up the White House Grill, it's loud, dark and the food is fantastic.

Both are in Post Falls.

I'd save the white house for post race. It is a lot of garlic. I love garlic and it usually upsets my stomach a little because it's soooo garlicky. Also, make a reservation if you do plan on going. It's small and very popular.

Slidell4life - 2012-06-13 6:28 PM Anyone have a good recommendation for a small family with two kids under 3?

There is a great playground right near transition.  Would be to the, um, north (I think) past all of the expo tents (near the tri bike transport last year).  It had a HUGE wooden castle for the kids to climb all over, swings, see-saw etc.. .  Restrooms as well.  My 2.5 year old played there for hours.

There is also a series of moose statues all around downtown CDA (one near the playground).  There is a book that goes along with the statues and the objective is to read the book and it leads you to the next statue.  It's fun for the kids and allows to adults to see the town. http://www.coeurdalene.org/mm/about_trail.html

There aren't any real bad places but the ones I'd make the lowest priority, at least IMO, are Scratch and Grille from Impanema.

I've been watching it religiously, and it keeps bouncing back and forth between rain and no rain.  I'm fine with either as long as there is no wind to speak of.

And I hear you on the 2lbs gained.  My brain hasn't realized my stomach isn't as hungry as it used to be, but I keep eating.  I'll have to diet after the race is over!

I'm going to try to be there.  The water's warming up fairly quickly with the sun on it today so by tomorrow afternoon it should be balmy!

Any guesses as to the distance of the roped off area for swim?  I paced off about 225 yards, but my paces might be a little short. Undecided

When you measure it on Google Earth it's 182 yards. How's CDA treating you Pappy?

Anyone planning on getting an easy ride in late Thursday afternoon?  I'll be getting into town Thursday around noon and picking my bike up from TriBike Transport.  Had a race tune done by my shop before TBT took it away and would like to get in 20ish miles to make sure there aren't any issues with the bike.

Also, any other BTers staying at the American Country B&B?
