ebshot - 2012-07-18 10:51 AM I just finished the book I was reading last night (Sex on the Moon; it was really interesting about a guy-Thad Roberts- who worked at NASA and stole lunar samples.) and I need a new book.  Has anyone read anything cool lately?  And please, no Fifty Shades of Grey recommendations, I'm not interested.

All of my reading as of late has been either my bible study books or tri-related reading... Undecided

Stop copying me.

bcraht - 2012-07-18 12:48 PM Got a good swim in this morning.  Something the coach said last week, coupled with Yanti's swim hint from yesterday, clicked for me (I have been doing breast stroke wrong all these years...).  I felt smooooooth this morning.  I have a ride on tap for later as well.  Hope everyone has a great day!

I'm here, I'm here. Sigh. As if it's not enough that I am hobbling around the office they decided to test my mental stength as well.

I just had to give the biggest presentation of my life this morning. (To the boss's boss's boss's boss? Is that right? Boss^3? Boss^4? I don't know...) But, I survived- in fact it went really well but I am just burnt out.

Recovery is going well. I am bouncing back much better than expected. Got back in the pool yesterday, which felt great...despite my major pool deck phobia. You guys know about that right? I guess a phobia is irrational and I think what I have is very rational. I just hate pool decks. They gross me out.

Anyway, how are y'all?

I'm going to focus on the presentation that you rocked to Boss cubed(?) As one who has been on both sides of that type of thing, I realize the mental anguish that can go into it. So, Good Job! If I was Tom D I'd send you a cat pic. But I'm not, so it's all good. Heal up, recover, or as I tell the other mentor here, rest, rest, rest!

Oh yeah, pool decks are what they are. Wear flip flops as much as you can.

No "50 Shades of Mommy Porn"? I knew I liked you

Lol, no thank you!  I have zero desire to read that.  At all.  And no, I won't go and see the movie either.

That would be "50 Shades of Not-Even-Bad-Enough-to-be-Entertaining Mommy Porn."

Hmmmm ... if you liked Sex on the Moon, I think you'd really like Thunderstruck, by Erik Larson. Here's part of the blurb:

Erik Larson tells the stories of two men--Hawley Crippen, a very unlikely murderer, and Guglielmo Marconi, the obsessive creator of a seemingly supernatural means of communication--whose lives intersect during one of the greatest criminal chases of all time.

It's not fiction; it's one of those better-and-stranger-than fiction history writes.

I'll have to check that out.  I prefer to read good non-fiction so it sounds right up my ally.

I just saw an interesting History channel (?) story that had a bit on Crippen.  It offered some information that called into question the main evidence in the case.  I won't spoil it for you though.

I'm kind of whacko and all over the place with most things (I am sure NOBODY noticed ... ) so I find it really helpful to follow a daily reader or Bible study guide.

And thanks. I actually do think it would particularly benefit Brie, come to think of it.

And why do I post this crap in Tri Talk and forget to post it here? What good am I?

"Divine Mentor" by Wayne Cordeiro is a great book about the benefits of daily Bible reading.  I'll gladly forward it if anyone wants to read it.

Thanks!! I will think about this at OW coached swim tomorrow am.  I am fairly decent at breaststroke...

I find that I have trouble keeping my wrist flat/straight in my freestlye pull but not breaststroke.  I tend to bend my wrist in just a little, but then overflex my fingers so the tips are pointing backwards (opposite from my wrist bend). I was reading Sheila T's book and thinking about it, but I can't stop it when I'm in the water.  I can't get that "feel" of the catch. Undecided

Chris, Brie.   You signed up yet? I hope so.

Dooooooooooooooooooooooo iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittttttt     !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOW.

(worry later)

Oh Weebly One, when is your next tri?  Innocent

Oooooh, double busted!

i FORGOT THAT Janyne has an encyclopaedic knowledge of every race that every Manatee has logged.

Ok, so here's the thing. I cunningly decided to enter the Grafman olympic distance on 12th August without actually registering or parting with any money. This was because i was scared concerned that i may not be able to get ready in time for the event and also the idea of having to set off at 4am in time to sign in etc and then be knackered for the race itself. It was also the latest race i could enter before i go on my annual holidays, 5 days later.

However, my holidays have now been postponed by a few days, leaving the weekend of 18th/19th August also available as i fly out to Turkey on the Monday. This gives me 3 options and i welcome your thoughts as well as the usual abuse etc.

1. Go for the Grafman Oly on August 12th. It is 2hrs away. Also has HIM event running at the same time

2. Go for the Erewash Sprint Tri on August 19th (pool based) ready for this right now.

3.Go for the Udo's Choice Allerthorpe Classic Triathlon (olympic distance) August 19th. 1 hour away so more user friendly. Also gives me one week extra training.

So, comments....

Winter bleugh - I clearly do not like training in winter.  Anyway all is well I did 45mins on the drainer and actually it was fine.  Problem was i was so tired before I started, got home from work at 6pm and started on dinner, made a divine Massaman beef curry in the pressure cooker.  Homework with Artemis - spellings - we love these, we draw pictures of the words.  Then get her bathed and read a story.  Then it's 7.30 - hope on the drainer for 45mins, eat dinner, drink a beer.  Shower, dry hair and it's now 9.50pm and I'm beat!

Tomorrow lunchtime run and swim squad in the evening.  Roll on summer.  I leave the house in the dark at the moment and come home in the darker!

I do hate that time in winter -- when it is dark until late in the morning and dark before the afternoon is over.

I like the idea of drawing pictures of the spelling words. I may have to try that with Jayson. I can't believe he starts school in a month!
