I hate you American Express!

They lowered from $15,000 to $3,000 my limit because, as they said, internal payment history. I asked them what that meant and they said in August (I've had this account open for years!) I missed a payment by a day. Liars! They're doing it because I never used their card -- in other words I was responsible and didn't run up my credit and yet they deem it necessary to fu** me over. Anyway that brought down my credit score by about 30 points because that's a negative ding. So now getting a refi, which I need because of the divorce, is going to be an issue. I went from a comfortable 759 to about a 729. This is me paying for the fu**ups who defaulted on their credit card bills because they HAD to have a new 78'' LCD TV for their fifth bedroom.

Just a thought...

I bet they are covering their arses.  I'm wagering that lots of people are running up their cards in these economic times and then defaulting...

This of course, has nothing to do with you.  So they lower the limits, and had to make up some excuse...  I'm sure if you used the card, and made a payment, then asked to get bumped back up, they would.

BTW, it's best to get rid off all lines of credit except a few basic ones.  It hurts your credit to have a bunch of open lines.  I have nothing except two credit cards now.

My banker was amazed they'd do that considering my payment histories and such. But that's the state of the game these days. I have four credit cards and was told NOT to close any of them because that just reduced my `ratio of available credit' or some such BS and that's a negative on the credit.

I'm so sick of banks and credit cards and such. I'm going to pay it all off in the next two months and never buy anything on credit again as long as I live. I don't care if I have to eat ramen noodles, I'm cutting up all my credit cards (except one to rent cars) and make the banks keep that money in limbo for me. Fu**ers.

729 is still really good, and the change in points is not temporary - esp if the lowered limit did not put you over limit.  i WOULD write the credit bureaus and dispute the late payment charge if you can prove you paid on time.  just get that off your record.  but, really, nothing to worry about here.

I hate them, too. I do autopay and never check it as I don't use the card anymore. For some reason my autopay was late and that gave me a late fee causing my autopay to be below the minimum...over the last three months I've accrued fees for late and not making the minimum....WTF?  So I called and they raised my minimum because I was late.  My bad for not checking the account I suppose but that's why I do the freaking autopay!!

So I closed the account today, phuckers. Don't want you anyway.

Autopay can get you into trouble...  I had a similar experience and they said that technically, autopay has like a WEEK to do it.  Well, if you selected the day it's due or the day before, it has a chance to be late...

I was told to autopay about 7-10 days before.  I'm serious, I have been bit by just about every loop hole the credit card companies can get you on.

I have two, and pay them off every month about a week early...

That's the kicker -- the late payment isn't on my credit reports because it wasn't more than 30 days late. It was one day late, but as the lady said `Sir! Late is LATE!' Batch. So anyway it doesn't show on my credit report but AmEx calls that an `internal report' ... I told them ... `why did you give me that limit in the first place if you didn't think I was worthy? I made a LOT less money five years ago (when I opened the account) than I do now, meaning I probably wouldn't warrant such a limit. Where was your `responsible lending' credo back then? Instead now you take it away and make me look bad? You're basically hosing people who are responsible and don't use their credit cards.'

Disclaimer: I have a high balance on my primary credit card, which is supposed to be paid off soon, that is, if I ever get what's supposed to be coming to me.

No .. we are still here.  I am thinking a shower is in order.  I smell.

I had some fun encounters on my ride this morning .... I am convinced I am supposed to die by deer.
Probably one of my scariest moment I had on my bike. I rode up on a group of 6 deer. They decided to run beside me. It was cool for a little bit... but then I remembered the whole fact that they have very sharp hooves, and now they were close enough to touch... I decided I should slow down and let them pass.

This would be second "death by deer" encounter.  First one .. injured baby deer thought he was a ram and came at me while I was out for a walk.  Headbutted my right hip and knocked me down.

Today ... I am happily climbing the mountain on my bike and out of the corner of my eye I see a deer storming down the rocky, brush covered hill to my left,  he hit the edge of the rock and slick down tumbling into the road right at me.  I veered right and smacked the guardrail .. WTF?  Then I see the mountain lion on top of the rock, then he slinks into the brush .. he was a chasin' down a little Bambi sushi apparently.  Deer got up and ran back up the rocks and I just stood there thinking ... "where is the mountain lion now?"  So I chose to just stay there for a bit hoping the lion went after the deer again.  It's the natural way ... the natural way.   BTW .. that was the SECOND mountain lion we saw this morning.  The other one ran across the road in front of before we started up the mountain.  See?  What next?  A deer is going to hit me while I'm driving .. pretty sure that's gonna be the end.
I almost got killed by a cougar once.

I nearly got killed by a Lexus this evening! And I wasn't even on my bike!!!

phoenixazul - 2009-10-05 3:36 PM Today was a ridiculously polar day, emotionally. I almost got killed this morning on my bike. As in...about a quarter inch between my bike and the car. I would have died if he had really hit me. I couldn't believe it. I have also never heard myself swear/talk like that...it was like my body was possessed. It wasn't pretty and I'm sure the guy just didn't see me (despite the bright neon pink jersey, two flashing green lights, bright white helmet, and red bike) and I do hope he felt bad when he got to work...if he hadn't pulled out of the queue and tried to floor it up to the turn light, the whole incident wouldn't have happened. Grr. Grr. Grr. Made me almost throw up from the adrenaline rush. But on the positive side...I GOT OFFERED A PROFESSIONAL JOB AT THE MUSEUM! It's a part-time job right now until the new fiscal year starts, but it's a little photography, a little art handling, a little registrarial, everything I could want in a job. So I'll be doing that and REI at the same time and trying to shake the money tree.

Congratulations on the job, Tracey!

It is because the rules change dramatically for credit card companies in Feb.  They can no longer "selectively re-price" you.  Which means, they can't change your APR for missing payments, overlimit, etc.  So, in order to make more money, they are changing interest rates, lowering credit limits, and all kinds of things.  It's a huge thing at the companies right now - trying to find ways to make the same amount of money while still playing by the rules.

No, it doesn't.  Once they are open, it doesn't hurt to keep them open if you aren't carrying a balance on them.  It's actually better if your credit used/total credit is lower.

I will be on a liquid diet for a little while.  I'm not sure how long it lasts.  After that, I have to be really careful about eating fat since I won't have much bile to deal with it.  Eventually, I can start eating it again.

And all my favorite breakfast foods have lots of fat.  Makes me glad I had breakfast twice over the weekend - one day was an omelette and the other was corn beef hash and eggs.  Yum!!!

Subject: RE: TAN # 84 - The TAN-somest Thread Ever
Hi TAN. I roded last night on the bike. It was pleasant, actually. A tad cold but not too bad at all. I'm trying to acclimate myself to riding when cold to prep for B2B. Tonight it's running. Tomorrow it's swimming in the cold cold lake and then riding for an hour to get used to riding while cold and wet. This would be like SEAL training if I had to carry a log or a raft over my head for six hours after getting out of the water and having some jarhead yell at me.
