Aw man that totally stinks.  Good luck with the job search, fingers crossed you find something quickly that you love.

And welcome back.   Don't worry, most of the pages are just nonesense.  And brace yourself for the pink female urination device.

Oh yah, and all the awesome triathlon advice.  There's some of that in there too.

sma777 - 2010-01-15 2:48 PM Happy Friday everyone. I took a little hiatus from the group after being informed of my companies reorganization and subsequent job loss. I've gone through an emotional rollercoaster over the past week but I'm back on track. I must say the the workouts have been awesome the past couple of days and it really helps to clear my head. Hopefully I don't spend too much time in the gym and ignore my job search...I need to find a job so I can pay my entry fees in addition to my mortgage.

It's gonna take me a week to read through the pages of postings I've missed. You guys are maniac posters.

That is a major bummer on the job front.  I hope something good comes out of it and you get a job you like.  Glad the workouts are keeping you sane.

I'm so sorry to hear about the job. Hang in there and welcome back. Taking some time to think things over probably did some good.

Dropped Keri off at the airport.  I am glad she is going to CT for our friends but this family doesn't work nearly as well without her.  I will do what I can to hold down the fort, pick up my race packet, and run a half-marathon this weekend.  Luckily I am getting some help from my oldest boy this morning and a great baby-sitter willing to get to our house at 5AM Sunday morning so I can go run.    FattyFat is picking me up to take me to packet pick up today.  It will be nice to hang with some of our peeps this morning.

Good luck to all that are running tomrrow!  I hope to see everyone but with thousands at the race I am not sure that will happen.  I am in the second wave so I am not even starting with most of you.  Justine is running Keri's bib (not her timing chip) so I will at least have someone to start with.

I seem to have caught a bit of a cold in my travels this week.  I tried to cover up the coughs the best I could and not say anything to Keri since she has enough on her plate to be worrying about me.  Hopefully I can beat this quickly and have a good race tomorrow.  Everything is a PR on your first race!

Safe travels

kcarroll - 2010-01-14 12:59 PM Grouch alert!  Grrrrrr.  I'm working in Europe next week and just found out I have to leave Saturday night instead of Sunday night as planned.  Totally throws off my weekend plans.  And, because most of the hotels don't have pools or fitness centers, I usually make those weeks run focused.  No problem there, but the Garmin had to go back for repairs so I'm going to have to pay attention on the runs or risk having to flag taxi's to take me back to the hotel when I get lost.  (happened more than once.)

In the greater scheme of things, none of this is a tragedy, just hate giving up my Saturday night plans.  Oh well.  Good luck to all those racing.

Sorry to hear about your job. It totally sucks and puts another level of stress to everyday life. I lost my job last yr and in part it was a good thing as it let me spend time with my son, get healthy again and reflect on what I wanted the most. I had a job that I worked 16-20 hrs a day and traveled non stop, my wife called it the vacation I needed. In a way it was good that I lost mine as now I have more balance in my life.. Good luck with your job search and getting what you want.

I rode this morning with six others riders in the "B" ride from the local bike riders club. I wanted to do the A but I was pressed for time and this particular ride started only three miles from the house which allowed me ride over there and not use the car.We had a total of 8 riders and only a few us helped on the pulling which it did not bother me at all. There was this one guy in the group which his legs were "huge". I took a quick look at his bike and said to myself, this is a "no joke, serious rider". We were going for a 30 mile bike ride and our area usually has a lot of hills. As I rode next to him, I told him, "I feel like I am cheating riding next to you". The guy was riding a SINGLE speed bike. He told me what the numbers were on both his front ring and back cog but I can't remember what he said, all I can say is that the back cog was "SMALL". He could cruise at a comfy level at 17 to 17.5mph - anything above 18 he started to spin out. After chatting with him I learned he is a serious mt climber- and what he used today is what he uses on a regular basis for climbing, which I found to be INSANE. I probed and he asked what would he suggest for mt climbing improvement. His reply was more or less along the lines of what I have read and heard from other bikers_1. get out and find those hills (duh!)2. Suffer & recover, suffer and recover... period!3. practice, practice, practice ...4. keep suffering & recoveringLater

Thanks, Kim. I'm still in shock.

I know the marathon and 1/2 mary folks are probably all tucked in for the night, but you'll be in our thoughts tomorrow morning.  I'll be watching the television coverage and hope I will actually get to participate in 2011. Looking forward to all the great race reports and PRs!

So scared to death is a normal feeling? Thank goodness...but I hope it goes away soon. Looking at my training plan, there may not be much time to be scared over the next 14 weeks.
