Hey gang,

A certain thread is back in Iron Forums “Low Volume training part II”.  I really wish Rick was still around.  Crazy stuff it purposes is just bad for new people to read, imo.  There is a certain phrase that is use HTFU and for a reason.  It takes work and hard work to properly train your body to go long distances.  There is no quick logical answer.  If you short cut you are risking getting hurt and damaging your body.  But hey you guys know that.

Oh jeez - honestly - we had this discussion earlier and I guess i just don't get  the mentality of doing as little as possible.  there are so many races and sports and distances why is it so important to do IM if you can't put in the time or you don't enjoy it??  I know life gets in the way but why not switch goals ... or be happy with the training level you can put in and make sure that your expectations are in line with that.

Goals for February:

250+ miles on the bike; work on increasing sustained intensity during the long rides

60+ miles of running; incorporate intervals, more hills and long distance training runs

Swimming...do as much as the schedule allows and keep up the intensity

Yeah, I know.  I really didn’t mean to bring it back up for discussion.  A lot of people don’t get that mentality.  I really don’t care what he does.  It’s just that this site is seen by a lot of new people to the sport or people wanting info about the sport.  Then they read some crazy thread like that and think that they can do an Iron distance race with x 6min Vo2 or whatever sessions per week.  It’s ludicrous!

I am not here to be advocate for the new people or maybe I am.  If people attempt this training methodology they most likely will not finish and most likely get hurt or damage their body.

btw I did my run and feel better.

Morning Team:  I got an hour on the bike this morning and did some threshold intervals although the legs were kinda dead today.  Planning on an EZ shorty run at lunch.

My February Goals

1.  Continue to be consistent (i.e. get it done) and have fun.

2.  Run 5x week w/ weekly tempo and long run

Mostly just #1 but I would like to get my run mileage back up around 35-40 mpw.  I introduced a second swim workout in January and would like to get back to 3x week by the end of February and probably drop a run workout at that time.  Things are coming along.

Solid month Chris.  Looks like everyone had a really solid Jan.

I am on a mini-taper this week as I have a race on Sunday.  8 mile trail run, with a fair amount of vert.  My type of race!

Mine too.  Give me hilly over flat any day.  That way my slow running isn't as obvious

I might be able to brag about doing something that none of the superstars in this mentor group have done by the end of the weekend. There are ice bike races in Minnesota being held this weekend and even though I blew the chance to register on time I have a friend who thinks she can get me in. I have never done this and don't know the slightest bit about it (ie) distance, pacing, strategy, equipment, etc. But boy am I ever stoked to give it a try. It looks like they have approximately a mile course with curves and switchbacks plowed out on the lake. I really hope I can get in.

It's considered healthy if it has a banana on it right?  Note, that is dark chocolate cream cheese.  We know that dark chocolate is healthy...

This is not the thing I needed to see when I walk into the house hungry. That looks like a whole lotta awesomeness.
