Master 1609 Gold Coast Australia. | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success 1hr run today Dennis 18 28:09:00 Jackie 17 30:16:58 Joe 16 17:08:23 Jim 15 13:55:00 Gabe 14 23:00:49 Sam 14 21:28:20 Mark Z 14 17:36:00 Mitch 12 09:34:15 Mark H 8 10:52:00 Jackie, Bomber came back from Kona last week (and there was a big aura around him), I had a chance to congratulate him during our usual Saturday 5k Parkrun (I beat him!!! ). He finished in Kona just under 15hrs, apparently it was 39C and very strong wind. He is also not a swimmer and without the wetsuit battling the swells and current did him in (1:50 something...). Where did he qualify? Melbourne, he did it under 14hrs (and I was wrong, he is actually 65!). Melbourne can be very, very unpredictable weatherwise, sort of like Chicago marathon. Could be hot or really cold and windy. Btw Jackie, your training is super impressive! Mitch, congratulations, it is a great time. I know it is all relative, but still, many of us wish we could run like that. Edited by markz 2014-10-21 3:06 AM |

Everyone I know right now in the south is having terrible runs. Yes it was hot Jackie. We started the race in the low 70's at 8:00AM but by 10:00AM it had to be close to 80 with HIGH Humidity. As you know summer time training can be BRUTIAL in South Texas but it is slowly starting to cool off. I hid out in the Gym all summer either on the treadmill or pool and I am SO READY for some outdoor training. |

Tell Bomber that I have friend that was in Kona for probably the 4th time and she has raced for years. I think she may have been a pro at one time. She said that was the worst conditions she has ever raced in during all of her years of racing. Thanks. I'm enjoying the training and expecting to have a great race. Now if the wind and temperatures just cooperate. |

That is the BIG thing I have learned this year. I was not fueling my body forward properly. And you have to adjust your mixture depending on wind, heat and humidity. While it would have been nice for him to do a little longer run in training, 9 miles is certainly enough to be able to do the distance on race day. |

So, no trainerroad for me yet. We're going to have to fix that come Winter time. We need to get a robust group doing the Tour of Sufferlandia this year! I'm looking forward to learning from Tour veterans Joe and Gabe! I created a private Team on trainerroad for our group here. Only people we approve can join and only those people can see the workouts. Feel free to join if you are interested. Once joined I don't think you have to do anything except ride and any rides you complete on Trainerroad will show up on the team page. Neat way to see what rides everyone is doing. http://www.trainerroad.com/teams/2034-consistency-equals-success On an unrelated note - everyone please ensure that if your season is wrapping up that you take some time for recovery and unstructured fitness. Do some activities you didn't have time for or that didnt fit your training plan. Recharge a bit. Have a couple beers. Edited by trisuppo 2014-10-21 1:56 PM |

I feel silly since I told Bomber before he went there that for us, weather in Kona should not be much different than what we have here in summer. I lived in Hawaii for 7 years and spent few months in Kona so I thought I knew everything... |

107 | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success I had a great training day. Started in my usual thirty minute kettle bell class. Then had a great personal training session, really illustrating how much I've progressed in just 7 weeks. Had a good recovery as I ran a few errands and then got back to the gym at 5pm and swam for 45 minutes. I've been there before and it is heated but its still outside. I realize I live in Texas and its HOT here most of the time but December it can get down right COLD!! To cold to be swimming at 5:00AM. I will just have to adjust my schedule and swim in the evenings closer to where I live. |

I will swim all winter and just wear my swim parka from the locker room to the pool and then back. It's an awesome investment and I have never regretted getting it. |
