Master 3022 | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success Not much S/B/R for me this week. I'm in the East Bay Area of San Francisco visiting my Brother-in-law. On Thursday I rented a road bike and rode Mt. Diablo, one of the three big climbs in the Bay Area. For someone not used to real climbs it was a blast. During the first big climb of Diablo I found myself searching for one more gear. After that segment I took a short break and then forgot to start my garmin again. Lost two miles of tracking the climb. Oh well. We took a break midway up and when my brother in law suggested we stop there I was kinda bummed to know we still had 4.5 miles to go. I felt stronger in the last half. I saw a tarantula in the road which was cool and three deer on the side. The last tenth of a mile is a 16%+ grade. After 10 miles of climbing it took me three tries to figure out the gearing and effort to get to the top. I was rewarded with awesome views of the Bay Area and then a super fun descent to the bottom. I think average grade was around 6% once the climbs started. About 3700 ft of climbing (HC rated). For a flat lander from the Midwest that was very exciting! My brother in law had a tough day. We were supposed to do the climb the next day (Friday) but he was too sore (he needs more time in the saddle). We may try again in Sunday morning. If so, I may try to go bottom to top with no stops to see how I stack against the cyclists out west. So far I look like MOP but I think I can do better. 107 | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success I'm feeling like a slacker the 2nd half of this week, but I guess that working 60 hours in 5 days kind of justifies it. I'm going to try and get Runch in today. I need more Bike and Swim time... I'm in a facial hair competition tonight And my Snowboarding Season starts next Friday... Expert 1480 Somewhere in the Swamps of Philly | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success 45' swim followed by a 30' outdoor meditation and then a 24:53 5K with my youngest daughter - won't count the meditation as a workout. My 10 yr old finished 1st in her AG. It's her 10th 5K so far and she's got the goods to be really good. She's mentally tough and has a way of overcoming her exercise induced asthma. I think Jim has mentioned before how much fun it is watching your kids participate and excel in things you love to do. Watching your kids' success is infinitely more gratifying than relishing in your own goals. That's awesome. Dennis and Gail - great costumes, but then I am partial to Halloween. Ran a HM in Boston on Sat with specific instructions from coach not to "trash" my legs. I could have had a PR, but I didn't want to mess up my A race. My training run was good enough for 2nd in AG. HR was good and low and RPE was a 5. Woohoo! Today was my last long ride before my race two weeks from today. Everything looks to be falling nicely into place. |

Expert 2811 | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success Mark H- Great race report and good job this weekend. Its amazing what a good bike will do for you in a race. The confidence in doing the race the second time really shows in your report. You were like Aquaman on that swim. Well done. Jackie- you are on deck, and we are cheering for you. Gabe- I saw that you get to run with Macca and his wife this weekend. Don't say there will be 20,000 people in the race, because you meet all of the triathlon celebrities. |
