71min on the trainer - Reynolds. warm up then 45min Time trial @ FTP. Maintained power throughout and maybe could have gone a little harder ...maybe. Really need to do an FTP test soon.

40' early morning swim. Found the form for at least a couple of minutes. Always feels good to get these done, but am limited with time in the mornings. Need to find a way to get that second workout in.

Amen Brother. I thought I would have a break between seasons and could jump start 2 a days, but Daughter #2 is now on the extended basketball season they won districts, the first game of regionals and are in the regional semi finals. The games are all on the other side of the state. 2+ hours of driving each way. I am hoping the Spring schedule is kinder to my training.

I am fortunate to have a pool thats not too far from work but it really limits my actual swim time to 30 - 40min. I also run at lunch but we dont have showers at work so I cant go too hard so I dont do this too often. When it gets nicer I bike into work and shower at a nearby truck stop. The showers are expensive but its nice to bike in from time to time.

This'll be interesting ...

Have a great weekend training, having fun, racing!

Mark.

That sounds awful cold for an outdoor ride...are you sure about that? Think about the wind chill....The handy dandy NOAA Wind Chill Chart says that at 18mph on the bike the real feel will be 5F. Make sure you have neoprene show covers and all your skin is covered....

My training partner pulled out last minute due to chest cough - I was thankful, especially reading this! good to know for future reference!!

I thought my road would have been hard packed, but I discovered it was still soft. The first and last half mile was like running in sand. The mile out to the point was like being stabbed in the chest with 1000 knives made of ice ( I'm exaggerating, but the wind was brisk and it did take my breath away). Overall, it just felt good to run outside in the sunshine.

... and I was stupidly thinking of riding at 20F - thanks for all the 'encouragement' not to go :-)

updating from past four days ... its only 8wks to race day - wow where did this year go!?

2Hr ride on trainer (not in 20F weather!); 1Hr LT run intervals, 2800yd swim. Also too another sneaky rest day to make it easier on the FoP folks :-)

one hour 2800 yd swim; MS 2x8x100 negative split on second 8x so dropped from 1:40 to 1:38.

four years ago I could barely swim 275 yds once a week now its 2800 x3. When I first started sprints my 100yd time was posted at 1:36 and that was an all out sprint . now I achieve 1:38 during a long moderate session.

Progress :-)

After complaining about not doubling up workouts, get 1 hr on trainer at 5am followed by a swim at lunch. Key learning - have that bag packed and in the car just in case the opportunity presents itself. A couple of meetings cancelled and boom - got in a second workout.

The only practical way to get in a two-a-days during the week is by having at least one early a.m. workout. Otherwise, you are toast.

Agree. You have to strive for the early AM workout. That guarantees you one workout. If you plan on only one and in the evening it's too easy for it to get preempted. I have also started keeping my swim bag in the car for the same reasons. When possible, you just have to sneak in those extra workouts,

Your training plan is a guide but you don’t blindly follow it. You shouldn’t know exactly what you are going to do until the day you are to do it.
