Elite 3595 Quebec, Canada | Subject: RE: E.V.I.L. Running Reapers - Halloween Run Challenge I will normally run something like 3km on Saturday, but I am already at 100% so it won't matter for the challenge! |

Expert 1074 Madison, MS | Subject: RE: E.V.I.L. Running Reapers - Halloween Run Challenge Morning all. Looks like I will get to 100% of my goal with my "Pumpkin" run tonight with folks at the local running store. It's a little running party and should be fun if it doesn't rain (or at least doesn't rain too hard). Costumes are encouraged, but I heard that only 1 person actually wore a costume last year. I think I'll just stick my cat ears on my hat and call it a costume. |

Expert 1074 Madison, MS | Subject: RE: E.V.I.L. Running Reapers - Halloween Run Challenge I finally gave in to the lure of the Garmin GPS and bought one for myself. I have the Forerunner 50, which is not GPS, but does have heart rate, a foot pod, and speed/cadence sensor for the bike. Unfortunately, it only has enough memory for about 7 hours of training time. For regular people, that's fine. For us triathletes, barely enough for a single workout in many cases. So, I was looking at the various newer models, and since I am, at heart, a cheapskate, I was still going to eschew the GPS versions and get the new FR60, which is a beefed up version of the Forerunner 50 and it has something like 12 hours of memory. Also, one of my issues is my teeny-tiny wrists, so those "computers" never seem to fit right. However, over the weekend, I discovered the Forerunner 301, and because it is "sideways" it's not quite as clunky feeling. Also, the velcro strap lets me adjust to just right (I've never had a regular watch band fit correctly). It's surprisingly light. Not as fancy as the new 310xt or even the 305; however, it has 15 hours of battery life and, best of all, it is a heck of a lot less expensive. It gets here tomorrow and I can't wait to use it for my long run on Sunday. |

But, it wouldn't connect to the satellites sometimes in my area. I upgraded to a 405, which really only does running things, but the watch is much smaller. I love it! Have fun playing with your new toy this weekend!! |

I ran 2 miles on the dreadmill tonight.... I'll see how the knee feels tomorrow morning, if it is good to go then I should be able to make my adjusted goal with a run on Friday and my 5k and 1mi fun runs on Sat... Turns out that at a soccer practice I was coaching, when I slipped on the wet grass, I hyper extended my knee... I was thinking it was the run that morning, but in retrospect, it had to be the soccer practice.... Anyway, good to back on the mobile side... |

I figure there will be places where the GPS on the 301 won't work great, but I think for the most part it should be okay. The folks I've talked to who have one here seem to like them very much. Maybe once I get fully indoctrinated into the GPS running and stuff, I will be compelled to "upgrade." |

And I, of course, am an idiot, so I will probably keep running on it until I simply can't. I have a race tomorrow (duathlon with hubby; he's riding, and I'm running, and, no, we can't switch, it would kill him). Then, a long run on Sunday. After that, I will evaluate how it feels and, in consultation with my coach, decide how to deal with it. I may take next week off from running. We'll see. But I just signed up for another challenge, and I hate to have to modify my goal. Bleah. |
