SSMinnow - 2011-09-07 9:38 AM Did an OWS on the course today.  Water temperature is perfect, air temperature is FRIGID!  Felt good to be in the wetsuit before hitting the water.  No real sign of IM hoopla yet, but I am guessing that will all change tomorrow!

Were you in a full sleeve? I prefer the full but was wondering if I should bring the sleeveless since the temps had been so high in previous weeks.

Wear the full.  It does allow you to go faster, too.

I have someone who will have my bike ticket and get it for me, my coach.  But what about the wetsuit and the bike gear?  I read the guide it sounds like it has to be picked up right after the race... True or false?  Can you pick that up in the morning?  Is that stuff safe?  I'd hate to lose shoes and a helmet and wetsuit.

Also, I hear you about the special needs.  Bike will only be a tube and CO2..nothing critical unless a really bad morning occurs.  The run bag will be right on the course right?  No reason not to stock a sandwich or Rock Star.

Any thoughts on long or short sleeve wet suit yet?

I am more comfortable and faster in my sleeveless.  My form goes to crap when I am in my full sleeve.  SO = barring any extreme temperature changes or disasters with the sleeveless - that is what I will wear.

Couldn't agree more, plus my full is really high end and my sleeveless entry level so not nearly as comfy. I was just worried about overheating with water temps still in the high 70s but the cool front has to be helping.

My coach back in 2009 told me to just let a little water in through the collar - it'll cool you off some if you feel like you're getting a little warm from the exertion.

True.  Transition bags are picked up the night of.

The SN bags are made available the next morning. I've been able to retrieve my run S/N bag the night of the race since it's so nearby the finish line.

I feel like a kid waiting to go on vacation.  I have a view of the lake and  Monona Terrace from where I work. I plan on doing an OWS tomorrow after work.  Today - putting my race tires and new tubes on the bike before I go for my 30 minute ride and 35 minute run.

Safe travels to everyone

Nicole

Been an insane two days at school so fortunately I have been distracted. Looks like this thread has been buzzing. Half hour ride and half hour run tonight and then time to get packed. Heading out tomorrow after school and CAN NOT wait. Planning on being at swim start about 7:00 am Friday.

My family is going to try...keyword "try" and get to the top of monana terrace to watch the swim.  How early do people start setting up to watch?

And by the way...this thread is both keeping me calm and getting me all sorts of amped up

Just an FYI for our family and friends watching. Madison will hold it's 9/11 ceremony on the state capital at 7:30 am (south side of the building), with a F16 fly-over, memorial walk and lots more folks and traffic to the downtown area.

I get there about 5a to get a spot, as it gets really busy and packed fast. The Helix is a popular place to spectate.
