I did the last ride on my race bike today. I will be taking it apart this weekend to be ready for airplane travel on Wednesday.  Almost time!

Screw it, I'm hoping for 40mph winds and 105 degrees on the run.  Why?  Because I can hammer through it when a lot of people can't and I'll place higher!!!

Hi All,

i arrived in the Woodlands yesterday after a long travelling day from Europe.

Today i drove the bikecourse by car and its really a great course - guess i will like it - only the 2 wooden bridges at Mount Mariah Rd look scary - guess its better to slow down a bit.

In the afternoon i run 1 round from the run course - what should i say - is a great course - i think from ironman races one of the really nice courses - if its not too hot it could be a fast run.

unfortunately i am not sure if i can ride tomorrow (as planned) - the headtube on my TT is not fixed properly and i cant get it done - have to check a bikeshop tomorrow.

According to the webpage bikeland usa in the woodlands is open tomorrow afternoon - hope they can fix it.

Does anybody have other shops in mind that would be open on sundays ?

rgds,
Erwin

btw: i would also join a bt meeting at the welcome dinner

Welcome to town!! The bike course is nice, the bridges aren't too bad as long as they aren't wet. I doubt they will be. I heard rumors they may try to cover them, but I don't put much into that. I will also be at the welcome dinner. Looking forward to meeting everyone there!

Bike lane is open on Sunday as well. Call and ask for ken and let them know your situation. Bike land is a little smaller and customer service is not their specialty. There is also a shop in he back of the woodlands, maybe a magnolia address, that the owner has gone out of his way to help people as well. Let me know if I can help with anything while you are here.Patrick

For some reason I think they were open Sunday's leading up to the race. I have a friend that works at sports authority that could probably help. Let me know if you get shut out and I will try to get in touch with him.

Erwin, I stopped by BikeLane on Friday and they looked VERY busy. I'm guessing a lot of people had bikes shipped there or had their rides in for last minute tune-ups. If they can't help you, another place you might try is Bicycle World. It's a bit of a drive from The Woodlands, but I'm guessing they're not quite as impacted by the race.

Just got home from school and now that finals are over the realization that race day is less than a week away is really setting in.  My bike has been shipped, clothes are packed, boarding passes have been printed, now just trying to keep myself sane until I arrive on Wednesday!!!!!

Starting to finally pack, today! What a hassle. I've really been putting it off. Just so much stuff to get in order. I'm slowly doing it throughout the day. Hope to get 80% done, then finish the rest Wednesday night/Thursday morning.

About to go to the store and buy materials for a SIGN! Again, I'll have it outside the athlete dinner, around 5:00. Then I'll have it at the practice swim. If I'm swimming, the sign will be on my stuff. I'll try to post a picture in the thread so you can all get a visual on it.

I like todays version of the weather forecast for next Saturday... 86, and north winds 4-16 ...

Not sure how many times you have ridden the course in a north wind. I have ridden the entire thing over 50 times in every possible condition. Trust me. We all need to pray for a gentle SOUTH wind. North winds will kill your legs on this course as you are climbing to Richards. Gentle south winds don't hurt you on your way back in as you descend back to the woodlands. North winds in the national forest suck cause you get these wind tunnels between the tall pine trees and it moves you. Hard. I am an exceptionally strong biker and love tough conditions but this one sucks Just my opinion

Look at the athlete's guide for all the details.

http://texasic.namnori.com/files/2011/04/2012_MHTX_Athlete_Guide_jt...

The athlete's dinner is Thursday evening and starts at 5:30 PM.

The practice swim is Friday morning from 8-10, and you must have your timing chip and wrist band on to swim.

I'll have a sign (bought a high vis yellow poster board at the store)... will be good to see you again!

The weather in SW Louisiana is awesome this morning!! Would be great if we could have similiar conditions on Saturday.

Last long ride and run are done. Bike is in shop getting tuned up. Starting to get all my stuff together. Getting antsy to go ahead and make the drive over to the Woodlands.

I'm ready. A bit undertrained this time... but ready.

See yall there!

Kyle

From the Athletes Guide

"Be sure your running gear has reflective material on the front and back of your clothes and shoes"

Really?

By the way, are T1 and T2 in the same location? And

We have to check in all of our gear on Friday bike/run gear/bike gear

Same transition area and yes you have to check your bags in, but will have access race morning if needed.

Eh, they said that for IMKY but no one checked. Most running shoes already have reflective material on them, and if you wear a visor it probably does too.

Last water temp I heard was 77.5 on Friday. We had a bit of rain since then, but it has been warm, so who knows. I'd pack it just in case.

I heard not to wear reflective clothing - it ruins photos if a flash is used. LOL and I will be finishing well into the night.

Well, it's finally happened to me too. I'm usually very calm and collected (even before big races) but I'm FREAKIN' OUT now! My girlfriend's out of town this weekend and I finished my training today at 9 o'clock this morning. Spent the rest of the day stressing over every little detail. Will they take the giant oversized bike box on the airplane; will it get damaged or lost in transit, will I have enough time for everything, will I make it to all the mandatory check-ins/drop-offs/meeting (which I would prefer to do everything at once! not keep coming back for this or that), was my training enough, will I go out too fast, will I get swam over and kicked at the start, will I get sunburned - bad, will I have a mechanical on the bike, will I have GI problems on the run, will I.... you get the idea. Those last two are my biggest fears.

This is my first one and I've (we've) sacrificed so much to get where we are; I just want all that to be worth it, ya know?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing some BTers out there. I don't know anybody racing but have two (non-tri) friends from Galvaston (where we're staying) and my girl who just did her first HIM last weekend coming with me. We should be able to make the welcome dinner but I may sleep in through the swim. I may not be able to sleep at all so we'll see.

Good luck everybody! $h!T just got real!

Take a deep breath and enjoy the ride. The hard work is done.  You only get to do your first one once so soak it all in. Take your time and enjoy the whole experience.  Dont' worry about the stuff you can't control and have a plan A B and C.  Roll with the day.  Unexpected things will happen. Take them in stride.  And don't forget your sunscreen
