Sam, did you win the facial hair contest?

Mark H, fabulous report. I may have to consider that race. That swim looks really cool. I'm anxious to see my results too.

Jim, thanks for the cheers. Now I just have to get through the taper.

Joe, great covered bridge. That could have been where I grew up also.

Dennis, take a day off! Quit overtraining for your olympic ;-)

IMFL is this weekend and I'm going to spectate! I have a bunch of friends from both Austin and Tallahassee that are doing the race. That's going to be fun.

You are a very WISE women Jackie. I've been adding on the miles and laps at the pool with little regard but it all caught up with me yesterday. I don't know if its from my training or the fact that I worked 12hrs Saturday and Sunday but I am hurting this week. I have had no energy to really put in the effort I'm used to and its frustrating. I crashed hard this morning, I set out to get in 10 to 12 miles but after only 3 miles I HAD to shut it down. I actually had to stop and set on a park bench for a while because I really had no energy to walk back to the gym.

While I was sitting on the bench contemplating what I was doing wrong I noticed that I had a large amount of steam rising off my body. Now, this has happened to me before after a run in cooler weather but it was 72 degrees and humid early this morning. It stuck me to be odd enough to record it on my iPhone and I attached it to this post.

I think I might dial it back for a few days and start again next week.

I figure I finished in 5th in my category (Partial Beard Natural). Abe Lincoln finished 4th. The three guys that did we all had significant length.

Felt like Blech on my run today. A week of no running, minimal swim, minimal bike made today's run tough. Time to get back after it.

Good luck Jackie, use this rest period well. Sawyer, Dial it down. Do you have anymore races this year?

Hola team, just returned last night from an intense biz trip to Mexico (with several late nights of twine and tequila drinking, which I'm really worried that they will hunt me during Sunday's marathon).  Tomorrow morning I head out for NYC which seems like its going to be a cold day for Sunday's race

- Mitch, great to hear about your climbs in the Bay Area which I used to enjoy when I lived there 6 years ago. Diablo is a tough one!  Did you get to Mt. Hamilton or over to Marine County/Mt Tam?

- Joe, congrats on running and enjoying the time with your youngest daughter and also of the great results for your 10 year old!

- Jim, also congrats on Alex qualifying for the state XC meet.  Both you and Joe are setting great examples for your daughters (which I hope to follow with mine)

- Dennis, great pics on your pirate costumes with your wife!  Did you survive the party?

- Jackie, awesome job on your HM and achieving a 2nd place in your AG.  Even more incredible, while not pushing your self fully, you are really getting good!

- Mark H, congrats on completing your 2nd HIM and enjoying the finish as you should!  Any plans now for a full in the near future?

- Jim, I will look for Macca, but its going to be 50,000 of us out there :-)

- Mark Z, how is life down under as you approach your summer?

I am Sam, I actually slept in until 5:00AM this morning and no work out today. I only have runs left this year and the first part of next year, 2 half marathons and 1 full marathon in February. I will be dialing back my swim sessions for sure but I will keep slowly adding miles on the run.

Barely Gabe! No, really we had a good time but we had to leave just as people were feeling good enough to step up to the karaoke mic. I had to be at my boss’s beach house in Galveston at 7:00AM and it is almost a 2 hour drive from here. Doing a “favor” for the boss turned into working 5 guys for 2 12 hour days!!

Adding yesterday’s miserable 3 mile run!

@Gabe

Unfortunately my brother-in-law is not used to back to back days of hard efforts. He cooked himself pretty good on the last half of the Diablo climb (ended up having to stop a few times and almost called me on his cell to tell me that he would wait for me mid-mountain. We were supposed to ride the next day but didn't get to and then with all the family events no other rides happened.

I wish I had enough extra cash to stash a bike at his place in California so that I could avoid having to rent in the future. maybe in a year or so I'll ship my current bike there if I buy a better bike. I definitely would have liked to have climbed Tam and Hamilton.

There are two awesome rides I would like to do in California:

Levi's Gran Fondo: http://www.levisgranfondo.com/

and

The Death Ride: https://www.deathride.com/

For those looking forward to the Trainerroad iOS App. Trainerroad is done with Beta testing and submitted it to Apple for their review yesterday. It should take a week or two and then be in the App Store. It will initially only be available in iPhone format. It will quickly be followed by an iPad version. Additionally, at first the Sufferfest videos will not have the same integration capability that you have with the desktop/laptop app. i.e. you will have to play the video on a separate device and bascially hit play at the same time for them to be in sync. Not optimal but moving in the right direction.

I assume once they have it on the iPad it will be a much better product.

We always welcome anyone willing to work at improving themselves. We focus on consistency of training. There is a definite team approach to the mentoring in that we all support one another and learn from one another. Please review the biography format in the first threads of the group and tell us a bit about yourself.

Welcome aboard!

GROUP FOCUS: Triathlon's of all distance with a strong focus on consistency in training. Without consistent training across all disciplines your potential will not be met.

NAME: Trisuppo / Mitch

STORY: Like everyone else - I am busy. Between a wife, three girls (ages 15, 11 & 4), a house, a job and a dog I feeling like I'm running on fumes a lot. Endurance sports have become my outlet that is supposed to help me maintain my sanity.

I got into triathlons about 6 years ago after getting 20+ pounds overweight and realizing that there were triathlons that weren't Ironman distance. My first love before triathlons was cycling - and I absolutely hated running. I have since become an avid runner and feed off of the runner's high. My wife can tell when I haven't run for a few days. I'm trying to embrace the swim and that is one of my challenges.

With the little one at home, the last few years have been tough from a training and racing perspective. I was mentored by Ernesto the last few seasons and he taught me to listen to my body and train smarter. In 2012, I PR'd an early season HM, was on my way to PRing a 2nd HM in June and ended up with a stress fracture. i spent the summer of 2012 doing some swimming and biking and started to rehab my leg in August. i ran a sprint tri in Sept, my first tri since 2009. I really live by the phrases "run a lot, mostly easy and sometimes hard" and "your easy is never easy enough and your hard is never hard enough". That shift in philosophy allowed me to increase my volume and increase my overall fitness. In 2013 life got in the way of my triathlon plans but I managed to run more than I ever have a PR'd my end of season HM by 5 minutes. My intent this year is to focus on all three disciplines in an equitable fashion and complete a HIM.

Additionally I am ex-Military for those who may enjoy that affiliation.

FAMILY STATUS: See above. My wife doesn't quite get my passion and thinks I go overboard at times. As long as my training doesn't impact the family too much she is fine. That requires me to get creative at times and to work out mostly in the mornings. I have a treadmill and bike trainer set up in the basement which is imperative due to living in Michigan. With the advent of Spring I am getting outside for runs more often and looking forward to cycling outside on the weekends.

CURRENT TRAINING: I am working on consistency in all three disciplines. I have bgun training with power on the bike for the first time and I completed a cycling foused block this winter. I also plan on following a modified Hanson's running plan for my run training.

THIS YEAR'S RACES: Battle of Waterloo Triathlon (August), Tawas HIM (early Sept), Detroit HM (Oct), Turkey Trot 10k (Thanksgiving).

WEIGHTLOSS: In early 2007 I weighed in around 183 (5'9"). I got down to 151 for my end of season HM and it was definitely a contributor to my performance. I would like to get to the high 140's and see how that feels.

WHAT WILL MAKE ME A GOOD MENTOR: I've grown as an athlete over the last few seasons. I've overcome injury, my stubborn nature, and life's curve balls. What I've gained is an appreciation for our differences and the ability to listen and find an optimal path forward. I have an insatiable appetite for knowledge and am ready to share a lot of what I've learned with others. There are a group of us who have trained together via Ernesto's mentor group the last few years. Some of them plan to join this team and will supplement my knowledge. Some have completed Ironman races. Some are accomplished runners. What we have together is perseverance and a consistent approach to getting faster and stronger. This group is truly a team effort. All abilities are welcomed and I pledge that you will get out of his group what you are willing to put into it. I can't make you get up in the morning and head to the pool or lace up your running shoes. However, collectively we can give you the tools to make sure that when you do train you are doing it with eyes wide open and hopefully in an optimal fashion.

2014 GOALS: (1) Achieve consistency in training for Swim, Bike and Run; (2) Swim 3 times per week; (3) run healthy; (4) Bike four times per week; (5)Complete my first HIM;

Above is biography format...

Thank you for the format!

NAME: Ellen

STORY: I'm 22, and have tried exercising off and on but have not been able to stick with it. (I would always stop when it got too hot/too rainy.) I really do want to get in shape and be healthier, so I've decided to not make excuses anymore.
Outside of that, I'm not in college but am taking some extra schooling on subjects I enjoy, while deciding what to do next. I also volunteer once a week at a therapeutic horseback riding facility (part of the reason I want to be in better shape).

FAMILY STATUS: I live with my parents and sisters in north Texas.

CURRENT TRAINING: I'm starting the Beginner Exercise Program on this site. I can't swim yet, so for now its biking/walking/eventually running.

WEIGHTLOSS: My goal is to get from 180ish to down around 130lbs.

WHAT WILL MAKE ME A GOOD MENTEE: I'm willing to learn!

2014 GOALS: To get into a regular exercise routine.

Correct me if I'm wrong about the points/times: It's one point for each day that your workout is over 30min, and the time is your total for the month so far. How often should I add mine?

I should have mentioned earlier that a lot of us here use STRAVA on our smart phones to track our workouts. It's another tool from the accountability tool shed and its a really great way to see what others here are doing in their workouts.

My user name is Dennis Sawyer and I will let the others that use STRAVA post their usernames if they so desire.

For all Team members:

On strava I can be found as Tri suppo.

On Garmin Connect I can be found as Dangremond.

We have a team forming on Trainerroad that you can join by pasting the following into your browser:

Everyone should feel free to link to me - I love the sense of community that those sites enable.

That's a lot for a newbie to digest.

Question for Ellen...are you using an electronic device like a HR monitor to track your workouts? Please answer that and then we can go into further detail on how all the above sites are related (I'm assuming you haven't accessed them yet, if I am making erroneous assumptions I apologize.

happy the finish the month out with a great 7 miler. Haven't had this consistency since April so happy to be back.

Jackie - happy birthday.

Gave - Sunday's temps should be perfect, but watch the winds. Calling for consistent 15-20 mph winds throughout the day. Hope that part of the forecast changes. Good luck and remember NY is not a PR type race - just enjoy the pageantry and the city. Coming into Manhattan is supposed to be awesome.

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes. I feel blessed to be 62 and have strangers think I'm still in my 40s. I am definitely in the best shape I've ever been in my life.

I am blessed to be in Panama City Beach to watch IMFL tomorrow where I know almost 30 people in the race, half from Austin and half from Tallahassee. I watched Ernesto do IMTX and then the following year, Ernesto and I watched Gabe do IMTX. I am very excited to watch a different IM and also to know so many people that are racing.

I am also excited because I have two friends running the NYC Marathon tomorrow, Gabe from this forum and a friend Patti from Austin.

What a wonderful way to spend a birthday weekend!

Ellen, a big welcome to you. Although I've never had a weight issue of more than about 10 pounds, I have two very good friends who have dropped a considerable amount of weight in the last year or two. It is definitely possible. The guy is mid 40s and he will be racing IMFL tomorrow, his first Ironman. The girl is 31 and just completed her second triathlon, an Olympic distance. She lost her weight by 1) giving up beer, 2) giving up processed foods, and 3) exercising regularly. The key is REGULARLY. You don't have to do a lot, but you have to do it often.
