I finally got into my first appointment. I am subject 56.  Saw Jerry in there doing his bicycle test.  They said I did well on the math test, but that I must be color blindWink.  The ice water was way easy.  I guess its all the days of ice fishing and snowmobiling and maybe a little of all the ice I have used on my injuries.  It was fun.  Tomorrow I get the VO2 test and I have Friday scheduled for the 3rd test. I wish they wouldn't yell at me all the time it hurts my feelings.

There is no crying in baseball or kinesiology testing, so suck it up.

Just got back from my windgate test (30 seconds all out effort).

Max watts of 815

Average watts of 622

Min watts of 412

I have no idea how to use any of this and I don't train with power so I guess it's just one of those cool things to know. It was pretty intense and I had to lay down for about 20 minutes afterwards. I was dizzy and felt funny. I didn't get the body scan done because they said the machine was down. I'll have to go back for that.

Cool! That puts you right around the 90th percentile for peak power in "active young adults".

Divide that by your weight in kilograms (weight / 2.2 = kilos), and you get your relative watts/body weight. Again, not much use without repeating the test every so often and training with power, but cool stuff to know.

Thanks for the info! 90th percentile, not too shabby.

One day I'll traing with power, when I have the knowledge to use it correctly and the budget to afford it.

Completed my VO2 today.  Went pretty well.  48 ml/kg/min with a max hr of 198.  That put me in the upper end of excellent for my age.. Nick told me if I lost 10-15 lbs I would increase my score and break into the next level.  I can't even push myself to lose 5 lbs. so I guess that is out the window. They also did some functionality tests and I learned I have no core body strength and bad range of motion in my hamstrings.  GREAT.

Friday is the bike test and the body scan if they get it fixed.  A little nervous after witnessing Jerry's test and getting there after Kevin was laid out from his Sealed

It doesn't sound like their body anlyzer is getting fixed soon.  My Friday appointment was changed to July 1.

Ok, no real training today, but I did my WINDGATE test at ASU. Fun stuff. I am not sure what to do with these numbers, but they were most impressed with my Fatigue Index of 10.4. They said they have only had one other guy maintain their watts for the 30s.

Mean Watts for 30s = 677W
Peak Watts = 825W
Anaerobic Capacity = 8.2 W/kg
Anaerobic Power = 10.1 W/kg
Fatigue Index = 10.4 W/s

Percent Body Fat = 16.7 %
Bone Mass Density= 1.338 g/cm2

Well I made it through the last test of phase 1.  Man am I fat not only does the DXA scanner measure the fat in your skin folds it also takes into account the fat around your organs.  Yell29.4% what a wake up call. I am now almost 40 and have indisputable proof of what drinking beer and eating mexican food can do to you.  My wingate test results are as follows.

Mean Watts: 638
Peak watts: 1109
Minimum: 396
Anaerobic capacity: 6.8 W/Kg
Anaerobic Power:  11.8 W/Kg
Fatigue Index 23.9
Here is a good measure of who knows what, my total work was 19147.0 joules.  Is that relevant to anything?

Can anyone explain what all of this means.  I have never done any training based on watts so I don't really understand what it is measuring.

Anyone else do a swim workout after that first stress test? Did OWS tonight
at BJC and felt like crap. Trying to figure out if it's "I feel like crap" or
"Enough blood draws from the test to make me feel like crap"

could be the heat that makes you feel like crap or the warm water or the lack of blood.  Wait until the VO2 and Wingate tests kick your butt.

Thanks. I'll chalk it up to the blood draws. I haven't felt that bad
in the water since my disaster at Nathan's two years ago.

I've got VO2 tomorrow, but I've done that before. Wingate will be interesting.

Had the DEXA scan today.

Bone density is fine

I'm crushed by my BF%. It said that I'm at 25.5

WTF???? They said that it actually not that bad because the DEXA scan measures every mocule of fat in your body. The fat in your brain and the fat around all your organs and what not. There is nothing I can do about that sort of fat. I'm still pretty pissed about it though. I know, pretty lame for a guy but I'll admit that I've got some body dismoripha issues. I weight 173, I've got a glorious 4 pack. My Tanita scale read 16-ish% body fat. I know, that's not the most accurate but it measures the amount of subdermal fat as opposed to measuring every mocule in the body.

This pretty much ruined my day! I know, retarted.

Don't worry about it, Kevin. I had a result which was much higher than I expected. They actually tried to prepare me for the bad news before the scan. It's funny to think that everyone is probably pissed about their results.

They should know that triathletes are very imiage conscious and that this sort of information can be harmful!

Yeah, I'm going to get a beat down with my results I'm sure.

I'm up about 5 pounds in the last month, and doing the test next
week. Hint: It's not muscle I've added.

VO2 I did a 47 @ 183. Previously I went 54 @ 186, so not real happy
about that either, butit is what it is.

Got my results. Quick comment though: Damn that wingate hurt. Far more than I would have expected for a mere 30 seconds.

BF: A portly 27.5%
No idea what the various other numbers there mean. All bone density was high green.

Now for wingate:

Mean Watts: 588
Peak watts: 812 (although that seems to be an artificial peak, I'd guess closer to 750)
Anaerobic capapcity: 7.4 w/kg
Anaerobic power: 10.2 w/kg
Fatigue Index: 13.3 w/s
