The officiating was embarrassing...both sides. It's supposed to be the best of the best come playoffs but last night was just pathetic! Great teams will over come bad calls so I'm not making excuses. Weird game all around. Champ looked like a chump. They didn't activate Mcgahee and Moreno gets hurt. Had Fox not been so confident going into this game he would have activated Mcgahee. Also, Thomas, the go to guy. Pretty much not a factor. Manning just kept dropping short passes. Pratter drags his foot and misses a give me field goal. I'm a huge Bronco fan but they had their opportunities and did not come through. A game like that I can't help but look at coaching and getting the team prepared. I didn't even finish watching the game. I knew when it went to OT they were going to lose. Left with my son to watch the Mammoth and found out when on the lightrail that they had lost. A lot of quite people on the lightrail.

![]() | ![]() The refs definitely didn't look like the best of the best. They were all up in the game. Most of the calls I agreed with. They had some big no calls. But the worst thing is the indecisiveness and apparent trouble understanding the rules requiring several long conferences. It's frogging zero degrees and they were grouping up on every call like they were Duke basketball players before a free throw. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sadly, the hot water pipe in my house froze solid so I only got to half watch the game while trying to crawl around with a heat gun. Tough loss, I think if this game had been at 4 est instead of 1, we would have won. We've had some issues all season with our 4th quarter prevent a win defense. More importantly though, Russell Wilson showed what he's capable of. I read on a few sites, Lynch might have sprained his foot last week, which would explain his ineffectiveness. I don't think Atlanta can beat San Francisco.
Edit: We were very sloppy the first half. Particularly the last drive before halftime. That should have been a FG attempt or at least another play instead of running out the clock. We defintely missed Clemons too. He's much better in the run game than Irvin and our run defense has been suspect this year already, losing him was huge. Edited by JoshR 2013-01-13 4:17 PM |

I'm still bummed. The officiating was horrible. Flat out interference on Decker for 7 points. There were others that did go our way that were suspect too. Lots of bad calls... but even with that, we still had plenty of chances to put that game away and the whole team did not get it done. Prater puts us up by two scores before half... no, miss a chip shot and then Flaco lights us up for AGAIN for 7. 10 point swing, and we kneel down before the half with 36 seconds and Peyton Manning.... don't even take a shot. Lots of chances to put it away. Again, got to give it to the Ravens... it wasn't the refs, and we didn't give it away.. they earned it. Still rooting for the Pats. And ya... I thought we were getting McGahee back too. Moreno has been good... but he got injured. hillman is a great compliment, but does not have the mass to be your go to guy. Loosing Moreno really hurt... and obviously loosing Porter for the rest of the season hurt too. Edited by powerman 2013-01-13 8:12 PM |

Whether it was Peyton changing at the line or coming from the coaches, it showed no confidence in our passing game (which was superb this year). I thought the refs stunk, but they didn't cost us the game. As for Hillman, we'll see, he showed some good signs, but rarely does a rookie running back "Get It" his first year. Hopefully this leads to a similar scenario to what happened after the Jags defeat during a 13-3 year. |

Not the first time I heard this Really, if all your races and training all season were early afternoon, and suddenly you have to race at 9 or 10 am, and be at the race site by 5 am, you wouldn't be your best either. Sure, they are professional, etc. and the Pats always have late games, and the schedule was set months ago, but it's almost like the NFL wanted the Hawks to lose. Could have been like Saturday - afternoon game and Sunday night game on the East coast. The 49ers get a 3 pm eastern game @ ATL and the all east coast game is at 6:30 Sunday... And it's supposed to stay unseasonably warm in Southern Mass |

![]() | ![]() I don't know what happened there. My iphone went all haywire when I tried to type something... To respond to the time of day playing. I would say that I think that's picking nits. These guys are paid an excessive amount of money to play a game. They should adjust their clocks to play at their best. It's not like they were told the day before they had to play early. The East Coast teams don't get games moved earlier when they go west. I'm a Charger's fan so I've heard the same line from my fellow fans and I just don't buy it. Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Its Only Money - 2012-12-31 1:10 PM Another season done and another time to re-build. I really hope my Browns get it right this time, this two year cycle is getting really old. As a Browns fan and semi-reformed Elway hater, I will be rooting for the Broncos in the play-offs this year. I have come to respect Elway as both a player and a team executive. I have always like Peyton too and would like to see him win another ring. BTW Karlis missed the FG in 1986. We've had 14 coaches since the team started in the '40s and 6 coaches since 1999. I went to A&M and when we hired Sumlin I had low expectations. Here's hoping the Browns follow what the Aggies did. I would liek to stop referrign to them as the Clowns. Hey Saints fans, do any of you still have those paper bags? Can I borrow one? |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Really? There's griping about the time the games are scheduled? Sorry, folks. That's pure weak sauce. If you want your team to have the most favorable terms in the playoffs, there's a way to ensure that-- earn a better regular season record. It's not even much of an excuse considering how well the #6 seeds have performed in the playoffs in recent years. |

One team woke up at 4am and was on the field at 7am. The other team woke up at 7am and was on the field at 10am. We still had a chance though, the terrible game management in the first half was our undoing. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good weekend of games. 49ers looked amazing, Pete Carroll became the Pete C we all know and love with the 'freeze' move blowing up in his face, Baltimore pulled off a miracle as Manning was cold weather Manning, and the Pats yet again rolled an overmatched Texans who left the letter jackets at home but still got whupped. Upcoming weekend should be a fun one. I see the NFC sending the 49ers, and for the AFC, the Pats in a close one. They should hire Billy Cundiff for the game and send him out for the coin flip as an honorary captain. The big challenge this week will be surviving the toxic levels of Ray Lewis fawning/puff pieces. |

I don't think Atlanta can stop SF. They struggled against our offense and the 49ers have a much better offense IMO. Also, we were missing a few DL who make a big impact on our run defense and SF isn't going to let Atlanta run like we did. We also had no pass rush whatsoever, another thing SF has. I predict SF wins easily, Baltimore upsets NE because it's Ray Lewis' retirement party and Flacco is somehow much better in the playoffs. SF wins the super bowl after that, as much as it pains to me say. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() If Baltimore faces Atlanta in the SB (and even if it doesn't), do you think the fawning media would find time for even one mention of Ray Ray's past history in that city? It almost seems bizarre to me how the media has avoided it in the coverage I've seen. It's not like he was acquitted. He accepted a plea deal and and plead guilty to obstruction of justice in a double homicide case-- a case that is still technically "unsolved". I know it's all about football now, but you think if they're doing career retrospectives on Ray, they would at least mention it. It was kind of a big deal once upon a time and some very troubling questions remain-- what happened to the white suit you were seen wearing that night, Ray? Why did he initially lie to police? Why did Ray's chauffeur later recant some of his initial (damning) statements? The whole thing still smells like week-old fish. Yet today the media treats him like a hallowed legend without even a mention of the incident. I'm not sure even Tiger Woods will get that kind of treatment when he retires and he made a much bigger impact on his sport. I don't think I have ever seen the media work so hard to resurrect and restore the image of anyone quite like Ray Ray. Sorry if that became a bit of a rant. I'm a huge fan of all NFL football, not just my beloved Packers, but I just can't get on board the Ray Lewis Retirement Tour bus. |

![]() | ![]() I know, but doesn't it explain just how uncertain the NFL can be sometimes??? Like we said early on. The Super Bowl will be one by a team that gets hot and wins 3 or 4 in a row. And everyone is like "WOW! They are so great!!!" The cardinals won 5 in a row early this year just to show how any team can go on a streak. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The Niners will dominate the second half in ATL and run away with the win. Crowd noise was a factor in Seattle and they spanked the Niners, but the Niners are just better right now. ATL is no 12th man, Niners will adjust and move on. They are playing as a complete team at the moment and they're clicking at the right time. 10 point lead early in the second half and they'll be no looking back. Flacco will go back to be not-so-elite Flacco again and Brady and co. will win by two touchdowns. Unfortunately this means my Niners will have to face the Pats again. Tall order to beat Rodgers and Brady twice in a season. The loss of Gronk helps a ton though, one major weapon lost. Only have to stop the other 10. |

Sensei ![]() | ![]() I had this awful nightmare that the Broncos gave away a game to Baltimore with defensive, offensive, and play calling mistakes. When do they play for real?
They seemed "off" the whole game but I will look past even all of that (like Baily looking like an old man, some questionable calls, and a pick and fumble AND one of the best defenses giving up 38) But HOW does a safety give up that last play? Are you kidding? Then you have MANNING with 30 seconds or so AND 2 timeouts and you don't even TRY to get move the ball 50 yards and wait for OT? Then a 3 and 13 with Baltimore on their 3 and you give up 20 and THEN you force them to punt which puts you on your own 5? Just sickening. |

I know it's all about football now, but you think if they're doing career retrospectives on Ray, they would at least mention it. (snip) (Full disclosure: I grew up in Baltimore, but left before the Ravens existed, so while I do root for them, I’m by no means a die-hard fan.) I don’t think that it’s been “swept under the rug”. You’re talking about something that happened more than a decade ago, and which was already adjudicated, regardless of whether you like the results or not. Given that it’s already been tried, and that several of the victims’ family members are bound by confidentiality agreements not to discuss the case further (as part of the settlement they got after they sued Ray Lewis for millions), there isn’t much new information that’s likely to come out. Given that, what would be the purpose of bringing up the case again? Should the media bring it up every time they mention his name? “And the ballcarrier is brought down at the thirty-two by Lewis who, you may remember, was allegedly involved in a murder back in 2000 in Atlanta and pled guilty to obstruction of justice. So, it’ll be a third and seven for Denver…” There was an article just the other day that someone posted on BT, so it’s not like it isn’t getting mentioned, but the article isn’t really much more than a retrospective because, at this point, there isn’t much more to say about it. Given that it’s been tried already, and given that he pled guilty to obstruction and served his (admittedly light) sentence, and given that he already paid huge settlements to the families of the victims, and has, by almost any standard you want to use, been a model citizen and teammate ever since, I don’t know what the point would be to endlessly re-hash this. |
