Huh wiggo has an elliptical crank ring.  Pretty interesting... are those more efficient?

Its still undecided I think....

They never reallytook off apart from with a few riders... first time I really noticed them was when I think Bobby Julich was using it...

It's individual preference. The theory behind them is that they provide you more power at the 'dead spot' in your pedal stroke. They've been around since the 80's, and now the most popular kind are called Q-rings, made by Rotor.

Cat's right, it's not been PROVEN that they're more efficient by themselves, because it's a combination of the rider and the rings. If you put them on a dyno with a mechanical test rig, they'd be exactly the same efficiency as a round ring.

And with the amount of testing these guys do... Im SURE the ones that use it have reasons for doing to...

Either... power readings/Avspeed etc etc OR... its a gut feel thing... it depends on the rider...

As rick said its about eliminating the dead spot in the pedal stroke...

Has anyone tried one?

My group riding mentor, who owns his own bike shop, has put some on his bike. He had a power meter on too but I haven't seen him since our last ride to ask him what the results were. I want some to psyche my mates out.

Would love to know the results once he has some!

For you... anything

Lol - thanks honey!

Anyone know what the rules say if a stupid fan gets in the way of a rider? Like say someone slapped AC in the face and he fell down???  Would he just have to lose time?

GomesBolt - 2009-07-24 12:57 AM Maybe Boy Toy was the right term.  I heard he just dropped papers to go back to his Aussie Citizenship.

Yup will be back there racing for Aussie next year.... he put the wheels in motion lastyear

Not sure if you saw but I posted the other day that he was my wifes new favorite rider.

I missed yesterdays thread

Say hi to your wife for me!

Not going to make inappropriate comment...

Haha he is purely her favorite rider based on looks.  Though I keep reminding her that she was almost in high school when he was born...

Bertie just kicked the crap out of the field. He's a knucklehead, but man can he ride a cycle. Andy Schleck is acquitting himself well, even though that GIANT bike he's riding looks like he built it in his garage...

Yep.

Someone punched Merckx as he attempted to win a 6th tour, which he didn't manage in the end.

Do you not like the little matador?

I have a game I play where I ask people if they could slap one celebrity across the face as hard as they wanted, who would it be.  For me, it has long been Bob Costas.  I would slap the vocabulary out of that little midget.  AC is quickly climbing on the list...

Who for you?

Man Wiggo is blowing-away everyone.  29 sec on LA???
If I said Wayne Rooney or Christiano Rinaldo would you know who I meant?  That NFL Monday night commentator Tony Kornheiser would be my first American.

I wonder if this is Georges last tour? Since he is refusing to see a doc about the collarbone in case they stop him riding... and he wants to finish the tour...

Thoughts?

Wouldn't surprise me that much. He looks tired.

Of course I know.  I'm portuguese by ethnicity.  But I can definitely see why someone wants to slap the stupid off Ronaldo's face.  As for Kornheiser.  I met him in the Crown Room in Atlanta and I actually think he's a really nice guy.  He even got me a refil on my jack and coke.

Whoa!  Safe to say AC shouldn't ride by you and glance sidewards?

Fans are part of the course. There have been instances in regular stages where fans get in the way...there was a famous mountain stage where a photog didn't get out of the way fast enough...race officials didn't intervene, but the guy he was riding with up the mountain stopped and waited.

In this tour, I think in an early stage (maybe stage 4 or so) a fan got in the way of Vandevelde and he fell. The race official 'neutralised' the race to allow for all the affected riders to catch up.

Never seen it happen in a time trial...worst case, you lose time. Best case, I'd imagine, is appealing to the race jury and having them 'adjust' your time...although I don't know if there's precedent there.

I watched that stage from a hotel in Austria minutes before my sister's wedding.  My bro in law and I had to run to the church after that stage.

I think a lot of cancer survivors and families-of care too.  He's riding for free man.

I think perfect result would be Wiggo #1 because he's really putting-out, Lance #2.  Contador DNF-slapped in the face...

But that won't happen...today...I'm in Florida, not Annecy...
