Bro, Barney is gonna be pissed if he reads this... LMFAO!!! Like Jay said Rudy, you'll be fine on the Swim, you'll crush the Bike... first 3 miles of the Run you'll be fine. It's that mile 4.5 to Mile 9 that's gonna SLAUGHTER ALL OF US!! Mile 9 to 12.5 is fine too. Shaded, flat, some downhills even and maybe some tiny rollers. But that hill... that Nasty/ SOB of a hill at 12.5 ... boy is she gonna hurt. I'll never forget the first time I ran her. I'm a little over 12 miles, thinking Yes. Less than a mile to go and I'm done with Quassy 70.3! Yes!! Can't wait to see my wife and kids. Ah this is such a nice shaded, wooded and flat road. The air is so crisp and clean, beautiful surroundings, all is quiet and serene; no houses or cars or even racers around me on this road. Wow. This is great! What a lovely ending to this Half Ironman. Oh.. Oh what's this. A cute little brick and stone underpass. How quaint and all british-like. [Run under the bridge] Oh and what's this, a little rise in the road that turns and goes upward. Okay this hurts a little but not too bad. Oh wait, it still turns and climbs. Really!? Oh sh1t, you gotta be kidding me. What tha... fuuu*k!!! Don't walk... you got like a 1/3 of a mile to go. Dig Deep. Suck it up buttercup. HTFU. Sh1T, think of other mantras. Pain is too great. She's breakin' up Captain I can't hold her together much longer!!! [Seconds later the ability to coherently think leaves me and I mumble as I shuffle up this Tarantino-imagined, Princess Bride-like torturous "Machine" of a hill that just sucks the life out of you. I can feel my calf muscles and quadriceps slosh back and forth slamming against my leg bones.] Yes, the last climb is that hideous - at least it was for me. In fact, the second year and time running it - it was somehow harder and more painful. I hope this trend does not continue for this year. Edited by Dream Chaser 2012-05-24 1:24 PM |

Veteran 274 State College, PA | Subject: RE: Rev3 Quassy - Half Rev : Official Thread I am in a deep quandary. I'm registered for the double, both the Olympic on Saturday and the Half on Sunday. Due to complications coming back from knee surgery last fall my running is no where near where it needs to be right now. My biggest issue was a bout of plantar fascitis, while I'm basically recovered now I don't like the idea of running 6 miles then 13 miles on back to back days, especially since this is really only a prep race for IMLP. I'm in great biking and swim shape right now so they are not a concern to me. My options(as I see them): 1: Forget about the Olympic race and only do the Half 2: Start the Olympic but turn in my chip after T2, then do the Half 3: Race the Olympic, Turn the Half into an aquabike 4: Finish the Olympic going really easy on the run(as in walking a decent portion of it), Race the Half |

Subject: RE: Rev3 Quassy - Half Rev : Official Thread John, I would do the Olympic Race and do the HIM Aquabike, and here's why: The Olympic run is easier than the 70.3 run. The 70.3 run has a couple of steep descents that will pound your feet. Also, you'll get the most out of your money doing one full race and doing the Swim/Bike for the half. If you want to get the most training out of this race, safely based off your Past running issues, I think this would be a good solution. |

Heat has not been a problem for this race the past two years. |

Member 12 | Subject: RE: Rev3 Quassy - Half Rev : Official Thread Hi everyone. So I need some advice. I can't do the bike portion of next weeks race due to a recent bout of carpal tunnel symptoms which are brought on while biking. I still want to do the swim and run. Will they allow me to do the run after droppIng out in T1? I don't expect a time or finishers medal just want to complete as much as I can. I'm totally bummed I can't ride my bike for another two weeks and have set my future goals on toughman |

If it doesnt Quassy sells BMF beers - I think they were 22 oz. Dtoce and stayed after the pre-ride (and run) to test the beverages. Hate to possibly jinx this by mentioning but the wheather is lows in the 50's Saturday night, high of 72 on Sunday and partly cloudy. It cannot improve from this. |

A problem is that there will be (3) different parking lots depending on what time you arrive. Bobby could be in the main lot, Timex or the school and we wouldnt know. However, that problem is solved if Bobby sleeps in his MV in the main lot on Saturday night |

Bobby can wear something that will target him. I now know you, Rudy and Bobby--so there will be at least 3 or 4 of us. My wife will be there afterwards joining in the refreshments, I'm sure. We'll have to wait until he sees this as he has the experience-this is my first triathlon, after all... |

With the stage, big screen, all the expo booths, picnic tables, food and most importantly Beer Vendor. Could just put the cone on a picnic table for after the race. |

Quassy Rev3 weekend will be very family-focused for me--with wifey, 6-yr-old daughter and super active 8-yr-old son in-tow, so I will gladly bring the cone and pass it to someone else to hoist atop their vehicle and host a BT gathering. I do not drink alcohol, but I'll gladly bring a soda and share in the War Story sharing post-event. And TRUST ME, there will be stories to tell after this one! Rest up this weekend boys & girls. Rest well. The 70.3 Quassy Beast awaits...

I will be happy to help organize any hoodlums triathletes who are in need of refreshments from BT-and the first round is on me. You will all just have to wait for me to finish though... |

See what I get for doing yard work. It's safer to do a century ride. Sorry to hear about the back, Jim. Heal up. One of the big traps of a Taper Week is toward the end of it you'll have more and more energy, and will spend less and less time training, so we end up with a lot of free time and an abundance of energy. This sometimes results in us taking on a neglected project around the house last-minute, right before a race, and risking a pulled muscle, a cut, or some other silly domestic injury. It's tough to fight this temptation with all this bottled-up energy so I just try to stick to cleaning out closets: it's safe, makes the wife happy, and doesn't use up too much energy and I'm not sore afterwards. I've read of people tackling crazy big projects the days before a big race like building a deck or shed, or something similar. All this does is jeopardize the hard training we've done. The projects waited this long, they can wait a few more days till after the Race. And this tid-bit is NOT directed at you Jim. It's more to remind myself, and this more for you, me and Dale come the Ironman-Taper or a 2-week taper for an event. We won't experience this so much with only a week Taper; however, the Ironman Taper can be long and cruel. The coined term is: Taper Madness. I've experienced it a few times. And it's not fun! So you've been warned. Edited by Dream Chaser 2012-05-30 6:48 AM |
