jford2309 - 2013-04-16 11:42 AM What is it about April that seems to be when a majority of these tragedies take place??

I don't know.  I always dread the middle of April every year because it seems like something is going to happen.  April 19, is the date I typically associate with the bad stuff and I specifically recall thinking about the 19th coming up on my drive to work yesterday.

Same here but it's because April 15th is my birthday and that just means I'm getting older.  It should be considered a national tragedy for multiple reasons.

Pector, it's my birthday too.  My kids kept asking me last night why I wasn't happier, "Cause it's your birthday!  You should be happy!" Ugh.  Sorry kiddos:/  Very grateful to be in my home and having dinner with my family, but just could not do "happy".

4/15 is also my birthday...I kept getting Happy B-day messages yesterday, but I was in a kind of state of shock, and ended up not doing anything at all. It is hard to celebrate when you are worried for friends and people you don't even know (but you care anyway because they do what you do--part of the club, you might say)...

Wife's birthday is 9/11... it's a crappy deal.

I got nothing to add. Didn't makes sense the first time, and it never will. Such a tragic event on it's own, but we also know what a great atmosphere, and community runners are... it's just salt in the wound. Heart breaking. Lot's of love to all those effected.

I don't know.. I look at it the opposite way.  The Red Sox - Yankees example is sort of like siblings.  They can hate each other all the time, but watch out if anyone ELSE goes after your brother/sister.  When something terrible happens, people in the U.S. have a way of dropping rivalries and helping each other in a time of need.  Which is awesome.

??

So let me try to follow this... two groups that normally would never hold hands are brought together, and somehow this fact is "sad" and means the terrorist has achieved his goal.

Not tracking with ya on this; in fact, I think it demonstrates the exact opposite, that people here who otherwise might be on different sides put those things aside in times of need. Not the terrorist's goal of instilling fear.

I can agree with this for a limited time... and that time is football season.

I should not expected to be nice to a Jets fan 3-4 months after the fact.

It defies the call for a return to normalcy.

Should'a used red font...fixed it for those who can't infer sarcasm without red font.

I thought it was funny in-light of the way Sox and Yanks fans have talked about each other over 99.999% of the 112 years of their existence.

There's a whole series of ESPN commercials about rivalries and how people on one side or the other claim they would never do a nice thing for a fan of another team.  Clearly that's not the case in this country or this society.

I agree.

I assume the "joke" was that if we change the way we are/live, the terrorists win.  But that doesn't make sense if it makes us BETTER, and more united.  It was a failed attempt at humor, IMO.

IMO, the only "good" that comes from things like this, is that it DOES show how we can unite and show compassion for each other in times of adversity.

That's what I'm hearing.  Nice.

Sort of what I figured.  Either they wouldn't have a chance to catch them or they would catch them fast.  They wouldn't release any information to the media indicating they had a lead.  Probably pretend they don't have ANY lead to tip off the perpetrator.

I figured if they found unexploded IED's, they would find some evidence quickly.  They can probably track the store they bought items these days if there is any kind of serial number on the pressure cooker or what have you.

The NY Post wasn't really wrong in what they reported, except for perhaps using the word "suspect". Police did interview a "person of interest" who was a Saudi National. The story was then also reported by ABC and NBC, among other news agencies.

I would be cautious believing any of the reports you are hearing.  Fox is now reporting, from other sources, that no one is in custody.

As I said in another thread......the news reporting in this country is shameful.

They prefer to try to "out scoop" the competition by throwing things out rather than wait to confirm.

I assume they all have someone on the inside that gives them tips they run with.  So it's generally hear-say.  I though you typically needed to fact check and provide two other sources to back it up before publishing?  Or are them old school reporting rules?

I deal with local (and national on occasion) news quite a bit whenever we do something or investigate something that is news worthy.......I can safely say that there is one channel here that will blantantly embellish what we have told them to the point that it does not, even remotely, resemble what we released to them. It always came from "a source".....even in those times when we know WE are the source and we did not say what they are reporting.  I'm telling you, it's a joke.

Didn't see that, but that was not the NY Post story that was discussed earlier in this thread anyway.

It seems the NY Post is far from alone in getting ahead of the facts in this story. I have no reason to defend them, it just seems that they shouldn't be singled out for shoddy reporting on this story necessarily either.

ETA: Seems CNN should rank way ahead of the NY Post as "a disreputable new source" on this story.

HA!!!  One reporter just said, "we are not going to say anything else until we here from the FBI"......hey, there's a novel idea, report the "news" when you actually have some, and not just rumors.

Let's review:

There were NO unexploded devices.

There was NO cutting of cell phone service.

There was NO third explosion at the Library.

They reported genders wrong of persons who were killed.

....and on and on....and now this, there has been NO arrest made.

TV "journalism" in this country needs to be completely re-tooled.  Again, shameful.
