sparco - 2008-04-12 7:09 AM Good luck at your dualthlon Kristen!
x2!!!! Beth, sounds like you set the DC airport on fire with your hotness! First the server, then some other guy tracking you down so you could have your pen back. You go, girl!! Sal, how's the snow? I'm getting the van packed up to head to the kids' triathlon. I've got two nervous pint-sized triathletes this morning. I told them to just have fun. Don't worry about time. DD is contemplating doing it sockless because she doesn't want to take the time in transition to put them on! I was like, "Mommy always races in socks. Sometimes it's worth the time not to have ouchy feet" Have a great Saturday everyone.

Very little snow, but cold temperatures for mid April...it was 29 degrees this morning...I opted for a 40 min ride on the trainer this morning, and Cindy and I are going to go run on the indoor track this afternoon...

Pam, good luck to the kidlets...ya gonna write a race report for them?

Hiya Nibbs!  Just got home from the race.  It started pouring towards the end.  Kristen had just turned around at the halfway point of the last run and it started raining.  She was going to bet me that she wouldn't make it back before the rain started.  Glad she didn't.

I had a lot of fun volunteering.  I now realize just how much work it is to make the race successful.  Wow!

Jen is teh roxxor! She is the best volunteer ever!

She greeted me before the race (and before the diet Pepsi kicked in)...hollered for me at the first run, and was still there 1+ hours later to meet me at the second run...(she even came down and ran a few steps with me - shhhh - don't tell her doctor). Right after I left Jen at the Run2 turn-around, the sky opened up, thunder lightning & rain. Soaked for the last mile of the race, but I still did as well as I hoped to. Grabbed some food but then headed home before I could meet up with Jen again after the race - I have some weird aversion to wearing wet clothes.

Thanks for everything Jen (and the wetsuit too).

Artemis - 2008-04-11 5:17 PM I'm becoming more and more tempted by the flamingo idea. I need to see what kind of lawn ornaments I can find at Target.
Um. Jen is going to put pink flamingos in her yard? I think I need to read more than just the last 4 posts, huh? LOL

Not in my yard. I'm going to put them in other people's yards and make them pay me (for charity) to put them in someone else's yard.

Got it! (I went back and read the posts.)

But it was funnier when I thought that you were going to put them in YOUR yard.

Actually, I think they're kind of cute.

Aww...thanks!  You did not seem very amused when I called you "sunshine" this morning.

I don't blame you for leaving.  It was so wet.  My jeans weighed like 5 pounds by the time I left.

Hopefully the wetsuit will help you gain some confidence in the OWS.

I did leave out my first thought (although I'll share it with Nibbs)...I think riding hills gives me temporary Tourette's syndrome (not to make light of folks that do suffer this...) but holy cow - I was making up nursery rhymes with swear words in them.

Haha.... loved your bike leg write up, Kristen.  Whatever it takes!

Sounds like you learned a LOT from that race, which is always very important.  Good job!

Well, I wasn't singing Kanye West songs, but I did say some pretty nasty things to the 14 miles of chip seal.  My very first full century ride is OVER and DONE.

I'm just as tired from volunteering as I would have been had I raced.  I think I need a nap.  Maybe I'll put some more laundry in so I at least feel productive while I'm napping.

I was thinking how hard it would be to volunteer while I was riding today.  Mainly when I got to the turn around point of an out and back 100 miler.  I mean, those people were up WAY earlier than any of us riders, they put 100 miles on their cars (and paid for gas), AND they have to stay much, much longer.

Volunteers absolutely rock!

Proud mom moment here. My daughters productions of Annie was wonderful!  Hard to believe it was all middle school kids (they didn't have enough guys try out though so FDR and the radio announcer were played by teachers)

A little kid in the neighborhood near mine asked me how you got a bike like mine--he even referred to my bike as sweet (cute kid unfortunately neither he nor any of his friends riding with him were wearing helmets which just makes my blood boil cause they were roughly age 6-11 years old)

Hiya Nibbs!

Just checking i n for the evening. Wat to go Kristen in the du and way to go Jen for volunteering in the rain! I guess Beth is busy primping for prom, LOL. My kiddos had fun at their triathlon. There were no tears or anything. The conditions were bad. The race was postponed for a half an hour due to lightening. And the roads were very wet while they were racing. DD rocked the swim and DS rocked the bike. They both need to run lots more if they are going to keep doing this. Since they were both quite cold when they finished, my first priority was to get them some dry clothes and get them warm ASAP. As soon as they changed and had eaten some post-race pizza, I left them in the Fun Zone area to go clean up transition. Got DD's bike and stuff and saw DS's helmet and goggles, but not his bike. We had gotten him a brand new Fuji road bike for Christmas. This was his first race on it. And it was GONE! I scanned the transition are and saw another Fuji road bike on a different rack but with someone els'e goggles and hlmet strapped to it. I told the volunteers working the transition are what had happened and wheeled the other (older, bigger and definitely more beat up) Fuji to see if I could find the rightful owner. The volunteers made an announcement over the loudspeaker's in the Y, also. DS heard this and freaked cuz he knew this was his bike. Luckily, another kid heard it too and realized he had taken the wrong bike. So we swapped and DS's bike is safe and sound at home. I am exhausted. I feel like I have already raced! I sherpa'd both kids by myself since DH was racing his bike this morning. Not sure how well this bodes for my race at the crack of stupid tomorrow. Oh well. It will be fun. Cold, but fun!

DS told DD "That's my Fuji. I just know it! Somebody stole it!" Poor kid. He was so relieved when I told him I had his bike and someone else had just made a mistake.
