Anybody know/remember what they are making available as far as water during the bike.  I know the course map designates where on the course the stations will be and I seem to remember last year they handed out water bottles but what size?  8 oz?  16 oz? 24 oz?

Last year was white waterbottles with the sponsor logo, and were 16 oz.  They'll easily fit in a cage on the bike.

I believe the goody bag came with one waterbottle, you can use that as your start, and then disperse that one when completed and get a new one at one of the bike aid stations.

so now that i am planning on doing this i have lots of questions! are the bike liquids bottle exchanges? they hand out water bottles on the run? are those exchanges as well? do they let you bring coolers to keep your stuff in while your doing the other legs? do they let race "fans" into the zoo for free that day? can the kids play on the beach while i race?

ahhhhhhhhh! but...YES!

On the bike portion, you can toss your empty and get a filled water bottle at the aid station.

they hand out water bottles on the run?
No, they don't.  You either are using your own hydration/fuel belt, or carrying your own waterbottle but refill it with the cups of water they supply at the stations, or just rely on the cups of water.  From what I remember, they didn't have waterbottles at the run aid stations, only cups of water, gatorade, or sponsored hydration, along with pretzels, oranges and bananas and gu.

are those exchanges as well? do they let you bring coolers to keep your stuff in while your doing the other legs?
If you can fit it in your transition area without hogging or encroaching another participant's "space".  There's not that much room.

do they let race "fans" into the zoo for free that day?
I don't know.  Can someone else answer this?

can the kids play on the beach while i race?
How old are your kids?  Is there another adult or responsible teenager that can watch them?  I don't think the beach is open yet at that time, until after 12 noon or something.  I'd check.

Good luck!

They have had Infinit on course the last few years.  No spectators allowed in the zoo from what I remember.

From what I read, I believe Hammer or some other sponsor is in this year and not InfinIT.  Dang, I like InfinIT.

I would not bring a cooler into transition....the T are is already very tight space.

If that helicopter flys overhead again - it wouldn't be there anyway, lol.

I shot mutri doing an OWS at Bradford Beach yesterday... folks, the water is C-O-L-D!

He went in wearing a sleeveless shortie wetsuit and, after 6 minutes, came out with any skin exposed to the water just beet red... it was ridiculous. They said it was 51-degrees-- I hope this week's warm-up will have a major effect on the water temp.

Make sure to wear a full wetsuit, folks. It's going to be BRUTAL.

Let's hope the wind is blowing in off the lake.  Then the water will be warm.  If the wind is blowing out, then it will be cold.  The wind blowing in brings in all the water that has been warming up on the top of the lake to the shore.  The wind blowing out causes the cold water to be pulled up from the bottom.

Wow, I didn't realize there could be such a huge difference from Milwaukee to Racine... that's nice. Still, 58-degrees. Brrrrrrrrrrr. I thought the 63 degrees we had at Lake Mills was cold. And that was a Sprint-distance swim!

Word on the street is that some of the suppliers at the expo are putting in emergency rush orders for Neoprene Caps. DJdavey said Fleet Feet was going to be stocking them too. They should be available and I am guessing they will be going for a premium!

I plan on buying one and I am definitely glad I upgraded to a full suit this summer!

I do remember being on the swim team that you do swim faster in cold water. Not 58 cold though. That is going to make the swim REAL interesting. Just one more thing to start freaking out about.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there! Should be great!

accuweather is saying the wind will be out of the south....is that good? Maybe the warmer water from chicago will head north? I don't now how that works out...

I'm ordered a hood yesterday from Desoto (2nd day air) just in case....

Based on this mornings swim in the lake , a single cap with earplugs was fine and two should do the trick.

What's with the ear plugs? Does that help keep you warmer? I grew up a swimmer, but a pool doesn't typically get down to 58 especially when it is inside and is regulated. So I just want to make sure I am prepared and don't start the race off on the wrong foot.

Holy crap. THAT COLD!?!?!?!?!? I will hopefully be okay with 2 caps. I don't think I can afford a neoprene one unfortunately.

Anyone know what time transition opens and closes on Sunday? I don't see that in the participant's guide. Looks like if I can pull this race off, I'll be staying the night in Chicago beforehand. :/ (that's what...a 2 hour drive, right?)

I think it's something along the lines of when cold water gets in your ears it can be disorienting to the swimmer.
