eyeofthetiger2007 - 2009-05-11 7:01 PM Is the lake open to swimmers during the day? I am thinking about doing an open water swim and then bike the course on Wednesday morning. Will I be allowed in the water? There will not be a life guard I know, but my friend will be there to make sure I do not freeze or die.

Sorry, but swimming is only allowed on raceday for that lake.  You can't even swim in it on Saturday.  Park rule.

Based on a fishing web site I found, current temperature is about 61 degrees.  A few weeks I swam in Lake Anna at the Rumpass in Bumpass Tri and the water was around 60.  It was cold at first but after a few strokes it felt pretty comfortable with a wetsuit.

My race on May 3rd was in the Nanticoke and the water temp. was 68.  Felt great in a suit.

But with all the rain in the last 2 weeks, Centennial may have dropped a few degrees.

What was the temp last year anyone know.  It was pretty chilly when you got in, thats all I know!  Even with the suit on you could feel the cold water if you stopped swimming.

Well the temperature wont really matter if it is storming. I am still going with a sleeveless suit and not my full one.

i believe it was in the 62 degree area last year.  it took me at least 5 min just to catch my breath.  completely knocked the wind out of me.

If it's storming, how does that work?  Will they delay the starts or just scrap the swim?

Lightning they will either delay the start or if it looks as if it won't let up, they may cancel the swim.  That will be a race day call made up by the CTA.

I just hope it's not turned into a Du, because I am sooo not prepared to run 15K! Might even have to drop out if that's the case. I think we'll be fine. No worries!

The water at Rumpass was reported to be 60, I think, and I had a sleeveless suit and neoprene cap. Got in a few minutes early to pee and get my face got acclimated and the swim was just fine. Anything over 65 would be sweeeet. Unlike the bike and run, I hear the swim course is pretty flat, so that's good too. C'mon, sunshine!!

5 days.....woohoo!

Yes - wear a wetsuit if you are comfortable wearing one. The water looks like it will be cold and the wetsuit will almost always improve your time.
