Oh I intend to completely!

tridawg: Is there anywhere around Atlanta that you would recommend for bike training? Im up in Alpharetta/Roswell and am trying to find spots that have similar rolling hills to IMKY. Its either Milton/North Alpharetta or just hop on the 6 Gaps.

There is no better place to train for IM Lou than the roswell area. the hilly terrain in roswell is very conducive to Louisville. I often did my long rides on the Roswell Century loop.

i ride the gaps alot - more for enjoyment than for real training. the problem with the gaps is you are either going straight up or straight down. You don't have climbing like that in Ironman. The roswell area is much better due to the varied topography

All Louisville area athletes...I'm flying back to Louisville for Christmas and New Years and would love to get in a ride on part of the IM course (weather permitting).  Being overseas, and traveling back with the family, I won't be bringing my bike along.  Does anyone know a good bike shop that rents bikes for the day??  Bicycle Sport was the big shop when I lived there, but I'm sure things have changed and I'm not sure they rent.  Thanks!

Thanks for the offer!  Hopefully the frame size would be right.  I'm 6'3" so sometimes it's hard to find the right frame size when borrowing a bike.  Even if it doesn't fit, I'd still be up for a ride if I can track down a rental.  I'll be out in the Prospect area, but can meet just about anywhere.

I'm in!  Volunteered this year as a catcher at the finish, got caught up in the excitement, signed up the next day before heading home!  This will be my first IM.  Yikes, nervous but also very excited.

Did everyone survive Thanksgiving?

I got a 5 mile run in before eating so I did not feel as guilty eating!

I signed up on thanksgiving.  It'll be my 2nd IM; I just finished IMAZ in 10:37:32.  It will be awesome to try out a different course and different weather.  I'll have to fly in from California for the race.

I need someone to get me to pull the trigger.  I'm nervous over getting the training in.

I told my wife that and she replied "do you know yourself?  You'll get it in".

I considered that her implicit approval.

It's hard to sign up a year in advance for such a time (and money) consuming event, but being around BT you've probably read stories of people working long hours with full on labor intensive jobs and still being able to put in their training before and/or after work.  You can do it.  Once you get into a routine it's just another part of your day, and usually the best part.

What are your goals for an IM?  Is it to finish or break a certain time?

If it's to finish I think it would be easy to train enough.  Here are some times for each part that will get you in under 17 hours:

Swim- 2:50 per 100 yards for a time of 2 hours

Bike- 14 mph for a time of 8 hours

Run/walk- 15 minutes per mile for 6 hours 33 minutes

If you can do both transitions in 20 minutes total yoo will finish at 16:53.

Since you have been working out pretty good this year, I'd bet you just need to increase your long stuff and get some structure/consistancy to be a few hours below the cut off.
