Veteran 252 Chicago and therabouts | Subject: RE: What do you guys do for a living? Pulmonary and critical care physician. Last year was my last year of fellowship...had a lot of free time to train. Now, that I actually out practicing...I am looking at 4am workouts...Trainer rides indoor when on beeper call, and not being able to workout 2/5 weekends when on call. But as others have said...im just doing it for myself and my health. Not looking to beat anyone out there but to show myself and family (wife, 2 kids) that they can do anything if they set their minds to it! |

Extreme Veteran 474 Sydney | Subject: RE: What do you guys do for a living? Investment Banker for one of the well knowns. Work 7am to around 8 or 9pm five days a week and the occasional weekend. Between graduation and last year I'd piled on 30-40lbs and become completely unfit so took up crew again (first time since college) last year but with work hours and the amount of travelling I do (I clocked up around 1/2 million miles last year) I couldn't commit to the crew I was in. I'd bought a bike for cross training so thought I'd give Tri a go thinking it was an appropriately solitary sport I could be flexible. How wrong I was! Come here and it quickly becomes a team sport! Now just having to battle with my wife for training time! (But I have lost 20+lbs and dropped my RHR by around 8bpm) |

Elite 2421 | Subject: RE: What do you guys do for a living? Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late, ah, I use the side door - that way Lumbergh can't see me, heh - after that I sorta space out for an hour. I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too, I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work. bts |

974.926 | Subject: RE: What do you guys do for a living? Reference Librarian here. Pretty much a 9-5er, but an 1.5 hour commute and a challenging community make the days seem longer sometimes. I jam a workout in at lunch with longer ones on the weekends I'm not working. Now that the weather is finally warming up and my running distances are becoming longer, I'll move my running outside in the evenings. Same with biking. I don't think your goals are unrealistic. And it's only March/almost April...plenty of time to train for an 1/2 Iron. Edited by Ellie 2006-03-30 3:32 PM |

But that just pays the bills for now, I'm about 7.5 classes away from my Accounting degree |

Extreme Veteran 351 Seattle | Subject: RE: What do you guys do for a living? I manage the business office of an orthopaedic practice. Anybody wanna know what Medicare pays for a total hip replacement?... that's the fascinating data that I know. I also have a small sewing business at home. Mostly home decor items (custom slipcovers, pillows, curtains). And I volunteer in the Spanish speaking community. Training time is a challenge for me, because of my inablity to say "no" to a project, whether at my 9-5 job, or sewing. So I have to make a conscious effort to schedule workout time. Some well intentioned fool once told me that I should get married so that I dont' have to work so much. I bet all you wives and mothers out there would get in line to punch him in the face for that remark. |

Veteran 255 Victoria, BC | Subject: RE: What do you guys do for a living? Another engineer here, of the biomedical persuasion. I work for a medical device consulting company and manage the development of new devices, primarly ophthalmology stuff. What that means is I know more than anyone should ever have to know about glaucoma. My schedule is pretty 8-5, but if I come in late or leave early occasionally, it's not a big deal. The hardest thing is traveling to ophthalmology conferences about once a month...really throws off my training schedule. |

Pro 4612 MA | Subject: RE: What do you guys do for a living? sparco - 2006-03-30 12:52 PM Here's a new one...food scientist. I'm the guy that helps 'invent' new food products for food companies, hence the 18 hr. plant trial yesterday/today. Plant trials don't happen that often (most of the time I work 8 to 5), but when they do, they screw up my training schedule. Because of family commitments (wife and 3 kids), I typically train in the morning and at lunch when I can. After work training is rare...
Ohohoh... you are a Foof Scientist. I got both my BS and MS majoring in Fd Sci. Couldn't find a job. Got re-trained to be a Analytical/BioChemist. Many people don't understand Fd Sci. Thought I was studying to be a Nutritionist or Chef. One good example is that the Powerbars/Clif shot type of things are works of Food Scientists. |

Veteran 169 San Antonio, TX | Subject: RE: What do you guys do for a living? I'm a professional student because I can never decide what I want to do with my life! I graduated in May with a BA in Biology from UT-Austin, but decided that research was really boring and not what I wanted to do, so now I'm in my second semester (out of 5) of nursing school working on my BSN. Once I'm done with this I'll probably decide that I don't like nursing and go back for another degree, haha, or at least get my MSN. I have tons of time to train due to the fact that I find my classes ridiculously easy, but do I actually use my time wisely to workout? No, not really. |

We have 2 young kids and my wife is taking a full course load in grad school at night and she has a part time job with weekend hours so training is either really early or really late. I can usually get 1 or 2 swims per week in at lunch time. I also have this other little side thing doing stuff for a guy called Ron that occupies a bit of my time.

TJ I am a media relations specialist for a medium-sized financial services company (bank). I work the typical 8/9 a.m. -5 p.m., so I squeeze in workouts before and after work. I don't have a husband or kids or anything like that, so I can be pretty selfish with my free time |
