Master 2490 Atlanta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Bone Island Tri - Full Iron Course : Official Thread csharp1171 - 2012-09-02 10:55 AM Shermbelle - 2012-09-02 10:17 AM We looked at flying into Key West vs Miami and it would cost us twice as much to fly into Key West. In the end we decided to just drive 13 hours and save the money since total travel time flying into Miami then driving to Key West would take about 12 hours. That doesnt include the 5 hour round trip drive to Atlanta to drop off my bike if i used the bike transport. I hate driving that far but we are going to save a ton of money by not paying for airfare and car rental. By driving I don't have to worry about my bike getting list or damaged. Travel questions again: For those flying, are you flying right into Key West (EYW) or somewhere like Miami or Ft Lauderdale and making the drive down. Also anyone using Raceday Transport? I can't find any logistics that make sense without spending full days traveling to this. The closest drop point for Raceday is in northern Chicago which with traffic and weather that time of year is probably 4hrs each way. Living in Atlanta has an occasional advantage - I'm doing the fly to Mijami/drive to to Key West thing, and am planning on using Raceday Transport under the assumption there's a dropoff somewhere here in town. If I was travelling with family, or didn't have easy access to a bike shipping operation, I would do the drive thing, too. Still have not made hotel reservations... |

Master 1402 Cumming, Georgia | Subject: RE: Bone Island Tri - Full Iron Course : Official Thread We used www.vrbo.com and found a nice little condo for $690 for the week. Not bad considering all of the hotels were coming up at the $200 per night price range. |

Extreme Veteran 392 Raleigh | Subject: RE: Bone Island Tri - Full Iron Course : Official Thread saw this on FB yesterday from BoneIslandTri "BoneIslandTri Organizers are going to back down on the requirement for a full wet suit! We still highly encourage and recommend a full suit but will not disqualify anyone who does not use one. Sorry for all of the back and forth on this but we are just trying to be cautious and safety minded. There is the chance to come across a jelly fish or Portuguese Man-of-War in the Florida waters in January. The choice on wet suits, in our opinion, is best left in the hands of the athlete with our recommendation to use a full suit." Thought everyone would like to know. |

Saw that, torn on this one. Would prefer to wear a sleeveless just for comfort but the sounds of "Man o War" worry me a bit. Jellyfish are nasty but just the name Man o War gives me a not so fun feeling |

Saw that, torn on this one. Would prefer to wear a sleeveless just for comfort but the sounds of "Man o War" worry me a bit. Jellyfish are nasty but just the name Man o War gives me a not so fun feeling I only own a sleeveless. Still haven't made up my mind on renting a full or not. I totally suck at swimming (my estimates have me finishing in just a hair under two hours). From what I understand, wearing a full kills your shoulders if you don't straighten out your arms on your stroke. Plus I expect to pass the halfway mark just before the start of the first wave of the HIM. I also expect the first three waves of HIM to pass me in the water on the second half of my swim. So I expect I will have at least 300 people from the IM and HIM in front of me clearing the way. That is assuming a shark doesn't mistake me for a wounded harbor seal. |

I've done a number of SetUp Events races and they are top notch. First year for this race so there may be some pains due to that, but overall I'd give SetUp a 5 star rating. |

Trying to wrap my head around the logistics of trolleys and buses and shuttles to all the different places. From as far as I read into the guide, logistics look alot like what they do at B2B; a shuttle here, a trolley there.. The booklet really made it sound like they plan to pull out all the stops to make this a good time for racers. In a way, I think I prefer races in their first year. |

How is the training going for everyone? I am just now getting back into it. Had way to much fun this summer and not enough training. |

Extreme Veteran 392 Raleigh | Subject: RE: Bone Island Tri - Full Iron Course : Official Thread My pre-season was on point... but my original 20wk IM plan got hacked down to a 17wk IM plan. Thank you snapped spoke and strained right calf. Hopefully, I will be back to full volume and speed before this weekends LSD's. P.S. staying 4 blocks from the finish at the Merlin Guesthouse... so I won't have far to crawl and die. |

Master 1402 Cumming, Georgia | Subject: RE: Bone Island Tri - Full Iron Course : Official Thread Finished the Augusta 70.3 yesterday and I'm pretty happy with my results. Swim and bike are very much on track. I still need more work on the run. Some freakish hamstring cramps slowed me down after mile 9. I'd like to find another 70.3 mid November to see where my fitness if possible. I'm excited to ramp up my training now. |

Might be time to move to the treadmill but that just sounds awful for the weekly long run. How's it looking for everyone else? |

I just signed up for the host hotel also. Still can't find a reasonable flight. Not a fan of 10 hours of travel time and being in 4 airports in one day. |

Still can't find a reasonable flight. Not a fan of 10 hours of travel time and being in 4 airports in one day. We ended up deciding to just do the 13 hour drive. All of the flights had total travel time of 11 - 13 hours with multiple layovers. Now we will have our car and I don't have to stress about my biek getting lost/damaged on a flight. Not looking forward to the drive but we are saving a lot of money. |

Training for these things is WAY overrated, I have done a few of them completely undertrained and let me tell you it is a riot!!! Getting to about 60 miles on the bike and being ready to be done, the next 7 hrs of your life is a blast |
