MRS2Tony just asked a very good question: `How are you going to get your bike down there?' So my options are to A) Fly down for $100 and fly my tri bike down for $250. B) Fly to Omaha for $100, pick up my roadie, the drive down. C) Buy a new tri bike when I get to KC. I opt for `C' but I'm guessing it's going to be B. Hey Tony... I just wanted to throw this out there for you, but Mike (outofshapeguy) and I can drive it down for you. We have a Thule 4-bike hitch rack, so we decided to make this a road trip to avoid shipping our bikes. I think we're leaving on 6/13 and return the 17th and staying about 20 miles out of Lawrence along K10. Shoot me an email and let me know if you're interested. Doooood! If you did that for me I'd definitely buy you food and beer sometime!!! |

He and I did a relay sprint tri with my wife which got me into this sport and I think he'd like to do this one [doesn't hurt that he's from Wichita/Derby ;-)] In October he ran a half marathon training run in the rain in 2:04:56. Don't know if that's the kind of speed your friend is looking for or not but I'll get back to you if he says he'd like to do it. |

Extreme Veteran 444 Olathe, KS | Subject: RE: IM Kansas 70.3 I'm sure somebody would love to have her on a team - and I'm sure there are lots of fast cyclist & runners out there that don't swim, but would love to do the relay. She could probably get in touch with some of the local cycling teams and/or running clubs. I'm sure there's a roadie out there that would love to do a 56 mile time trial. |

Member 61 Olathe, KS | Subject: RE: IM Kansas 70.3 Rode the first 40 miles (got cut short by a flat and rain) of the bike course today and then ran one loop of the run. The course has a few long climbs. For those locals that have done the Lone Star lake triathlon in Lawrence, the bike course from IMKS overlaps the Lone Star course. If you look at the IMKS course as a cross, ,the lower leg and the right leg of the cross are the same routes as the Olympic course at Lone Star. One thing to add, when we were approaching the turnaround on the lower leg of the course (about 2 miles from the turnaround) we were climbing a small hill and could see something in the middle of the road about a half mile ahead. As we got closer we could see that it was a HUGE dog standing in the middle of the road almost challenging us to come on. We probably didn't get closer than a quarter mile but it looked to be a rotweiller. We decided that turning back was probably the best play. I can't exactly explain it but I really liked the run course. It has rolling hills and varies from park roads to town roads. It was VERY quiet out there on a 35 degree day. I didn't see a lot of other people. One of the legs of the run was on a closed road that leads to the campground. When I was on this stretch I felt like I was far removed from civilization....a beautiful run out in the country. |

I'm kind of paranoid about the bike cutoff (it's not my strongest discipline) and I fear that on the run I may run outta gas and get screwed over. :sigh: My brain is shut off, but I need to figure out what I need to average on the bike to come in on time. |

You have 5h15m after the start if the last swim wave to complete the bike course. Assuming you take 1 hr to do the swim and zip through transition [which is close to last wave, 45min swim/T1 = 12.45mph last wave, 35min swim/T1 = 12.00 mph First wave starts at 6:40AM, they estimate 13-14 waves at 5 min intervals, last wave would start at 7:45 or 7:50. If you're in the first swim wave [6:40] and the last wave starts at 7:50 then with a 1 hr swim/T1 you need to average 10.03 mph on the bike to make the cutoff. 6:40 start with 35 min. swim/T1 makes it 9.60mph. 7:10 start with 35 min. swim/T1 makes it 10.50mph 7:10 start with 60 min. swim/T1 makes it 11.38mph I'm sure my wife could make an Excel spreadsheet in like four seconds that you could punch in your heat and anticipated swim time to come up with your minimum average bike speed, but hopefully those numbers help somebody out.
