Hey everyone, hope ya'll had a great weekend.  Things are starting to cool off at home and I should be getting back to training soon.

I just wanted to let you all know that I am now going to be focusing on a bike event in August.  It is the Pan Ohio Hope Ride and is a 4 day 310 mile ride for Cancer.  If anyone wants to check it out or make a little donation, here is the link...

http://community.acsevents.org/site/TR/CommunityFundraisingPages/CFPOhioNoWrapper?fr_id=11000&pg=entry

My donation link is right below here.

http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/CommunityFundraisingPages/CFPOhioNoWrapper/986582749?px=6879739&pg=personal&fr_id=11000

It isn't exactly a race, but it will be a long 4 days of riding and I'm sure I'll be quite sore at the end.

David, I don't know if you read the forums much but did you notice this thread?  Nothing like training to take your mind off things:

Lol... I have a feeling that things are going to turn out that way.  She is going to leave and take the dog, so I won't have any real reason to be home.  I'll probably train my butt off.  As it is now, I have to get home right after work to take the dog out and make sure he is ok and by the time I am home and settled I don't want to go out again.  Now I can just head straight from work to train.

That is the theory anyway, we'll see how well it converts to real life.  Today is the real kicker in the relationship.  We are going to a counselor and I'll be telling her that it is totally over.  Wish me luck!

Lauren- Best of luck out there! Your training has been awesome and you will do just great! Looking forward to calling you an Ironman or an Ironwoman (whichever you like better).

Traci- great job with your race! Fantastic run!

David- That bike event sounds like a great thing to focus on, I hope the training goes well for that. It looks like a really fun event. I will be very interested to hear about how it goes!

My knee is feeling much much better today and although every muscle in my body hurts I no longer have sharp pains in my knee which makes me very happy todaySmile

Hey guys, thanks for all of the great support! I survived! Just finished up the race report so I won't go into too much detail here. It went really well even though we had pooring rain and thunderstorms for most of it. Only problem was that I pushed through a lot of knee pain to get to the finish and today it hurts pretty bad. Not a surpise for me though, I have been fighting with this knee for a long time.

Hope you all had good weekends!

Ugh, you make me feel like a slug....

Nice job on the race!

Wow!  The east coast must grew'em fast.

I just looked back at my times for my races.  I'm in the top 20% (I would consider FOP) overall and you ladies are crushing my times.....

You should come out here and take prizes from us slow pokes....  You would be on the poduim with races and splits like those....

Great work!

Thanks! Very flattering but don't forget that you are always doing those crazy hard courses. Trust me, if I tried a bike course with real hills in it you could add at least an hour or more to my time. (or maybe a day or two).

Hey everyone, I'm heading up to LP shortly and won't have Internet access. Sorry if I missed anything over the past few days -- I really haven't been in the forums at all. Take care, and I'll be in touch next Wednesday .

Hey everyone.  I am looking for some information and figured that someone here could help me.  For running and biking, I have my garmin 305 which tracks basically everything.  For swimming I really have nothing.  I am looking for a great heart rate monitor for swimming so I can better capture that information.  I would like one that can capture min, max, and average heart rate over the workout.  I would love it to record the entire workout info, but I guess that isn't necessary.  Someone please help me! :-D

Anyone can correct me, but I think I remember reading that the Polar HRMs are waterproof and can handle the swim, unlike our Garmins.  I have also heard of people putting their Garmin in a ziplock bag under their swim cap, although I haven't done it yet.

Geez!  I have too much hair to shove under a swim cap!  How would I ever fit an electronic device in there!!!!  Seriously though, yes, people have said Polar is waterproof but I havn't tried mine.  I just go by RPE and whether I can do the prescribed rest interval.

I have used a Polar and my Timex in the pool without problem.

HOWEVER, your HR is drastically different than if you are biking and running.  What may seem like a low HR in the pool (compared to the run) and you will be struggling.  After a short time, I just realized the data just didn't seem that helpful and just go by RPE.  There is a swim field test to establish HR zones if you want.

SO, all I'm saying is that even though they work, I would not suggest spending $100 bucks just to do it.  But that's just me.  I wear my Timex swimming and for a lot of things, including day to day use, but haven't used the HR strap in the pool for a long time.
